The Mechanical Menace
|
[ No EXP. ] A scorcher of a ki wave had signaled the bell, and the roar of boos and heckles that came from both those in attendance and millions watching from their bedrooms. The smile should have extended outwards; he had won! The lips curled downwards in a frown as he watched as his human foe collapsed under the immense firepower that had been launched his way. The sounds of the arena were drowned out by the slow beating of drums echoing in his metallic dome. As the medic team arrived on the scene, their sirens flashing, Rosencrantz finally took action -- aiming a steady hand and blowing the rescue vehicle sky high. The EMTs would be forced to scatter as with a menacing growl the Android tore through the crowd, his sights set on Buddy. The metallic grip of the monster dug into his burnt and tattered suit, lifting him up to eye-level. " You see, Buddy . . . the good guy doesn't always win, " He smacked his red lips and stared through his nemesis with that exposed, beady red eye. " This isn't TV Land . . . sometimes, good people die . . . and then sometimes, " The smile finally returned as he chucked Buddy towards the wreckage of the medical bus. " Sometimes they live so I can torment them . . . this is faaaaaaaaa-a-aaaaaaar from over. When I'm done with you, you will have wished this ended today, " Two fingers were pressed to his forehead. " But you're just far too much fun for your own good. Say hello to Masika for me. I'll come knocking again someday for her. For you. For everyone on this planet. But for now, I have a new friend to make! " Before he would allow Benvolio to retaliate, he disappeared. Rosencrantz could not let this be the end. |

The near lifeless carcass of the almost champion draped in Rosencrantz' grip. In his brain, random song lyrics and beats were circulating around thoughts of Masika from the previous night, and his reunion with his father. He heard the android knocking, but no one was exactly home to answer the call. The world blurred as his body flew and slammed inside of the medical pod, medical technicians hurrying out of the way of Benvolio’s flight. The androids designated to protect the tournament participants hurried to try and form some sort of barrier between Buddy and Rosencrantz. As Rosencrantz ranted, against the will of the nurses pulling hands and pleas for Buddy to stop, Buddy would mumble words of denying help, the warrior crawling out of the medical pod, battered hands touching the floor, dragging him forward only for his legs to bang to a dead stop against the arena floor. Buddy would curl into a ball as the nurses again would try and lift him. “No…” He was Earth’s hero. He couldn’t lose. If he lost then… who else was there to stop him? Buddy felt the weight of the world, and it was far too much for him to bear, the reality ripping apart the very fabric of his nerve, his bleeding forehead touching the ground. He’d lift himself up; nursing a broken arm with a broken arm, letting out a final roar that would cause whatever ki energy still nestled inside of him to blanket the area in its mighty glory… The spectacular display of a power nonexistent in any other life form would be short lived. Buddy would succumb to the wounds that ravaged his body. Buddy would give himself to the darkness. Edited by Buddy, Apr 16 2009, 02:45 PM.

(no exp for this please) Carefully placing what used to be a flying ambulance on the ground, I looked around at the chaos in the arena. There were people scrambling for the exits, so concerned with themselves, they cared not whom they hurt in their efforts to flee. Even the security androids were barely able to stop people from trampling one another just to get away from an area that was no longer inhabited by the person they were afraid of, it was disgusting. After surveying the crowd, my thoughts turned to that fighter, the one i had seen all over the media. Records state his name as Benvolio Madgey, but the people seem to affectionately call him "Buddy". He seems to have attracted the attention of that android, the fight roster lists him as Rosencrantz... Perhaps it was simply all androids, or perhaps i was more like this Rosencrantz than i knew, but this "Buddy" had caught my attention as well. Watching the two battle was an exercise in contradictions and i was a curious student. This other android had also caught my eye, I wondered what motivated him? Was it the same thirst for understanding that i had or was something else entirely, but despite these questions, this human was still more interesting. I dislike chaotic things, they always seem to disturb my studies and I can't have that. In all the records i have of the beloved Benvolio, it seems a trend that he restores peace rather than upsets it, this was someone that could prove to be useful, not just to me, but apparently to everyone around him. As i approached the ring, the security simply let me pass, a perk of being a competitor i surmise. The nurses were clamoring around trying to stabilize the weakened human, they almost didn't notice my approach... At first they did what most people do, mistake me for a child, i couldn't blame them, that's essentially what i am, cosmetically speaking. That all changed after i began scanning the would be champion for internal damages. A byproduct of my scanning capabilities causes my eyes to glow and after that, they wouldn't come within 10 feet of me out of fear i was finishing the job that the previous performer had started. It was worse than these nurses guessed, massive internal hemorrhaging coupled with compound fractures and to make things even worse, he was going into shock and mumbling the same thing over and over... "Masika". Taking one of the nurses' satchels, i had to act fast. Administering a combination of chemicals starting with adrenaline just to keep his heart pumping and finishing with a dose of several sedatives to prevent him from hurting himself further, it was rather inspiring that he was able to even move at all. "y...ou can't move him..." one of the nurses decided it was time to get involved (where in the hell were all the doctors? they probably had as much luck getting in here as the crowd had getting out). She was right of course, but he needed to get into a medical pod fast, i was fighting a losing fight and Benvolio's body was the battlefield.... Carrying the wounded human through the chaos and back to the pod was out of the question, but there was one stroke of luck, When he crawled out of the pod the first time, "Buddy" had left the lid open! Seeing this put a thought into my head, i had seen the Yardratians move more than one person at once with their technique, but i had assumed that the others were simply using their own power. Could it be possible to use that technique on him without killing him? We'd soon find out, because i was out of options and he was out of time. Clearing my mind of the sounds of hell that surrounded us, i envisioned the arena, myself, Benvolio, the pod and nothing else, none of it mattered and would only distract me. Placing my hand on his chest and an index finger on my forehead, i thought of my lessons on Yardrat and when my eyes opened..... ::beep:: ::beep:: ::beep:: A complex system of monitoring equipment was recording all of Madgey's vitals and monitoring those machines was a small boy holding a medical chart. Outside there was still screaming and pain, but there was more than enough chaos inside that pod to keep me here, let the medical staff worry about the outside, this was beyond them anyway. He was far from safe and if his looks were any indication, then whatever is going on in his head must be terrifying to him. I am unsure if he'll even survive this process (10 picks up Buddy's tattered suit, opens up a small box containing tailoring supplies and begins working), but if he does wake, at least he won't be cold anymore. The medical pod would float up, piloted by a technician to the front of the egg shaped transporter. It'd haul the unconscious Benvolio and the android who saw it not robbery to devote his time in helping the bloodied hero find a more peaceful rest. The mess of a barely alive human being would be transferred out to rest inside of one of the flat bed restoration tanks inside of the local hospital - Benvolio laying inside, completely surrounded by cerulean water with nothing but his face and upper body viewable through a glass screen. A breathing apparatus was secured around his mouth and nasal area, strings and other attachments latched to his chest and arms helping monitor his vitals. Reality checks... were a bitch. A cold hearted one, and as the hero lay, the doctors would report him whispering something about paprika and dragon genitals. Mostly, though, more than anything, he kept asking for paprika, and it confused the doctors to high heaven. [ Scene here after is locked to Good/Neutral only please. Tis not my thread but, um yeah. Masika glared silently through Buddy's glass casing as her tail swished threateningly behind her. The more she watched, the more her jaw tightened in anger and the whiter her knuckles turned as they clenched into fists at her sides. "You fool..." She muttered quietly. She'd have hit him if it weren't for the fact that doing so would probably be all it took to finish off the great Benvolio Madgey. With a heavy sigh, she turned her back to the injured male, placing those green eyes upon the gaggle of humans as they moved about their pathetic little lives, causing them to darken with disgust. Useless creatures, it had been two days and Buddy was still trapped in this state. She'd convinced herself that it was laziness on the part of these so-called 'doctors'. If someone didn't do something soon, she was going to take her fist and make it intimately acquainted with the nose of the next human th-- "Miss?" Masika turned to see a doctor that had somehow managed to materialize behind her. "Would to take a step back, please? We're going to transfer him to a bed." There was a moment of hesitation before Masika was able to will herself into motion. It was another day before Buddy would seem to make his official return to the living. Masika slept with her head cradled within her arms on the edge of the bed, her rear planted within a chair that she'd maneuvered closer to Buddy. When at last she woke, she found herself met with the open eyes of the male sprawled out infront of her and at first she was unable to comprehend its significance. When she did, though, she smiled as she extended a hand to rest her palm lightly against his cheek. "There you are, stupid." She said quietly, the semi-playful words followed by a caring smile. |

Buddy felt as if a suicidal mac truck full of fat people and refrigerators had jumped off the Empire state building, lit itself on fire on the way down, and landed on top of him. He was rather stiff - the blankets covering him feeling as if they were pinned down by bricks. Of course, they weren't, and they were only hindered slightly by the Changeling greeting him as sweetly as she possibly could. It drew a smirk out of him. He was back. His hand would extend to touch at her cheek as well, though it'd be for just a few seconds before his arm would uncomfortably drop back to the bed's surface. "Masika... your head looks... so much bigger than I remember." He'd whisper hoarsely. He felt like someone else was in the room. He cut his eyes over to the opposite side of the room. Covering the entire half of the hospital room were flowers, baskets, stuffed animals, get well cards and other gifts dedicated to the Capsule Corp employee. It had to be hundreds, he was sure. He'd blink and would return his eyes to Masika. "...How long was I out?" Edited by Buddy, Apr 16 2009, 11:35 PM.

Masika gritted her teeth and resisted with every ounce of willpower contained within her slender frame not to knock Buddy back into unconciousness. "You're much more pleasant when you can't speak." She said as she rolled her eyes at him, leaning heavily against the back of her chair as she folded her arms defensively across her chest. If she were being truthful, the sound of Buddy's voice was the most welcome thing she'd experienced in a long, long time. His question caused her to hesitate a moment as she diverted her gaze toward the ground below. "Three days." She muttered before undoing her arms, again leaning in nearer to the fallen fighter only to begin playing idly with strands of his hair. "Don't fight him again, Buddy." Her voice took on a harsh edge and it came out as more of a command than a request. "I don't care about the rest of humanity, the rest of the universe even. Let them all go up in flames. They're not worth it to me if it means losing you. If something were to happen to you, the rest of the universe would be dead to me anyway." |

Buddy would grin at her dismay. He loved getting on her nerves, as she did his but, that's just how they worked. Three days? He'd raise his hand to scratch at the slight amount of stubble that had accumulated itself along his jawline. Yep - he needed a shave. He raised his eyes lazily on her figure, his blinking speed slow and tired. Her words struck deep to his core. Don't fight him again. She'd lost faith in him. At least - against the android. Buddy shut his eyes, comforted by her fingers, but slightly disturbed by what she said. He groaned a sigh, licking his lips. He didn't want to upset her anymore - he didn't have the strength or willpower to. He understood what Rosencrantz, in all of his insanity, was trying to illustrate to Buddy - and he understood even more now than ever, what Masika had said the night before his fight. He was no hero - he was just another guy who could throw a good punch. He would have to change that. " I ... understand. " He shut his eyes, trying to raise his hand to touch her somewhere, somehow, but he was still under the lock and key of sedatives and pain killers for his lasting aches and pains. "I have a better... a better idea. Come here. I know... I might smell bad but, I have to tell you something and... it feels like something's in my chest. " Well - that was because there was something in his chest. They had to insert a vial and needle contraption to his chest so they could replace the blood he had loss during the fight. |

Buddy was a mystery to Masika. His happiness, his ability to care for strangers, his pull to do the right thing, even if it might land him in the hospital where he lay unconcious for three days after nearly losing his life at the hands of a mad man. No, she hadn't lost faith in him, but she'd felt the fear of losing him and it wasn't something that she liked the idea of feeling again. It was saying a lot for someone that prided themselves on barely feeling anything at all. It was different with Buddy, her very unlikely partner. Masika frowned as he requested that she move nearer to him and she truthfully didn't care how he smelled, he'd find himself met with compliance. "What is it, Buddy?" She asked as she leaned in until her face hovered merely inches from his own, the fingers of one hand continuing their gentle teasing of his hair as the palm of her other came to rest against his cheek. Masika leaning in to him was possibly the most comfort he'd had in the near half week of him being hospitalized. Not that he could remember much of the experience, but, he was sure this was the definite highlight. Resisting the urge to kiss her, his fingers moved to smooth a few of her purple locks back to tuck behind her ear. "I still have one of the dragonballs. I had returned it to Capsule Corp headquarters... before the tournament. I knew something like me losing the balls could have happened. I just needed to know... who the bad guys were in this scheme of things, and now I do." He explained in a whisper. Buddy was much smarter than he let on. "But, despite all of that, I know that me trying to fight them all is as pointless as me calling myself a hero for just... winning a tournament. I let it all get to my head. The fame, the... the everything, really. I lost sight of who I really was, and what I really want out of life. I just... lost focus. I'm just going to go back to working for Dr. T ... I'm giving up fighting." Buddy would swallow in his throat and would continue, "The money I've gotten from this whole thing, the millions... I'm giving it all to charity, and the start of another peace group I'm calling Hero Corps. It'll be a world wide organization pushing for anti-violence, and will... y'know, just, help out communities and promote... everyday people into helping fix this crappy world we live in called Earth. I won't even be the head of it, I'm just going to... get it started and do what I can. I just want to go back to my ordinary job, my boring life and just... be with you. That's all I want now... that's all I want." |
