Combat is a hybrid roleplaying / stat system. What this means is that stats are used for a guideline, when you concider the options available to your character. For example, a fight between characters with exactly equal stats would come down to just RPing, while a fight between a character with a 15 in every stat and a character with a 5 in every stat would heavily favor the stronger character. For stat comparisons: A 1-3 difference is minor. A 4-6 difference is moderate. A 7-9 difference is extreme. And a 10+ difference is complete domination in that area. .............................................................................................................................................................. -Attacking / Defending- When a character uses a normal, unaided, physical strike, they deal their Power in damage to the other players Ki(or health, if the player is out of Ki). This assumes a solid blow. RP factors such blocking and partially or fully dodging will modify this damage. Ki attacks have their own individual mechanics, though generally it works something like: "-10 Ki, deals 15 damage", meaning that the user pays 10 Ki to launch the attack, and the opponent, if solidly hit, takes 15 damage to their own Ki(or life). Some attacks have special properties. For example, a pericing technique may have a lower ratio on damage, but deal a certain % of its damage directly to the users life force. A burning attack may cause a certain amount of damage over the next few posts. .............................................................................................................................................................. -Taking Damage- As you attack and defend, your Ki will drop. when you hit 0 Ki, you lose the ability to preform Ki attacks, as well as start taking damage to your Life. However, all isn't lost at this point. All of a warriors attributes are derived from Ki. When your Ki hits 0, Your Speed and Power are drained to restore your Ki to a point of your choice at a ratio of 10 per point. The chosen point must be between 10-25% of your Max Ki. This is resolved after the attack that drained you to 0. For example: Goku: PL:5832 Health: 100 Ki Pool: 15/250 Stats: Ki: 5 Power: 6 Speed: 8 Goku has been fighting for awhile and his Ki is currently resting at 15. His opponent launches an energy blast at him that has a damage of 50. Unable to dodge, Goku takes the attack head on. His 15 Ki points are the first to go, and he also takes 35 points of damage to his life. Following this, he decides the battle is lost without a lot more Ki, so he maxes his Ki as much as he can, in this instance 60 points, which costs him 6 attribute points. This leaves him at the following: Goku: PL:1,728 Health: 65 Ki Pool: 60/250 Stats: Ki: 5 Power: 3/5 Speed: 4/8 As you can see, its important to manage your Ki throughout the fight, as the longer the fight drags on the weaker you become. Also, Ki serves as a barrier between your health and the opponents attacks. If your low on Ki, a strong Ki attack might be able to finish you off before you get a chance to convert your stats. ..................................................................................................................................... Transformations: Transformations in DBZ provide power level multiplications. While this works well for the Anime, in practice on a board that makes it much more difficult to manage. Instead, transformations will provide a set number of stat points to distribute. All transformations will be handled on a case by case basis. .................................................................. Combat functions: Typically, in the average thread, you can do three things: Respond to the other persons action. Move(may involve dodging) Attack Keep the number of actions you take in one post to a reasonable level. This is DBZ, so you do move ridiculously fast, but so does your opponent so its all a matter of being relative. That said, there is a hard fast rule: You may only use one Ki ability per post. This includes transformations. Edited by Lord Rakuran, Jan 25 2010, 09:36 AM.
