Picked up Crysis 2 last night and I must say I am very impressed by this game. Well to that end I will break this review up into several parts, each score I give will be out of ten and the final score will be an average of the combined score. So lets get started... Graphics: Needles to say that this game is lovely, it is probably one of the best looking games if not the best looking game to ever grace my xbox. In fact the graphics are so pretty (probably not as nice as PC haven't played to compared) that it makes most PS3 games look like trash. The lighting in the game gives it a look that one would only expect to find on a summer day, the backgrounds are beautiful and you really get the sense that you are in a destroy Manhattan. The only down fall I see with the graphics is one of the most blarring, people. The people still look as if they are 3d rendered and not real. That is perhaps the only issue I have with it. In terms of graphics I give this as 9 out of 10. Story: As I said I have yet to complete the game, but so far the story seems fairly standard. An alien virus has ripped through new york and your the new guy in the nano suit (won't spoil what happens to the first guy) and your trying to find and evacuate a doctor with a possible cure. Of course along the way you shoot people from Cryteck and Aliens as well and well who can possibly go wrong with that. But so far the story is what you would expect from a futuristic shooter so I'll give it an 8 out of 10. Gameplay: The gameplay is what makes this game, the first Crysis which was completely tooled for PC would seem impossible to move over to a console, but it is pulled off. You have your normal controls that are standard for FPS right trigger shoot, left trigger aim down sights, push left stick to run etc. However it is the armor powers that really kicks ass, each power is assigned to a different button, and using them is just great. Being able to go stealth and slit a man's throat then armor up to take on the bullets his buddies through at you then power up to through a killing pizza box at a man is just great. The only problem is the powers use up your armor energy, meaning one has to be strategic in using these powers. It really makes it a lot more fun than your standard Halo super soldier that runs and guns everyone down. Upgrading is kept in the actual gameplay screen instead of going to a new menu, so when you upgrade your gun your guy actually pulls the gun up and puts on the upgrades. Its not only to see what your upgrading your gun to, but it also keeps you seated in the action instead of pulling you out of it to a menu. Gameplay wise I'm givin it another 9 out of 10 Difficulty: This game is no slouch, not at all, even on normal I found that enemies are difficult to pick off. This game is huge the entire world is basically open which means you have plenty of places to climb to to get vantage points on people, but your enemies aren't dumb. They will do the same thing and they will do it often. They will keep shooting you till your no more, they will triple team you if need be and they will try to flank you. I noticed some hiccups with the AI though like people running into a wall instead of looking at me, or some one trying to figure out where I was while I was holding a laser sighted pistol at his head from nearly point blank range, but these are easily forgiven. While not the hardest FPS I've ever played (Halo Reach on legendary was a bitch) it still ranks up there. 8.5 out of 10 Overall: This game is great, I would recommend it anyone who like FPS so averaging all the scores I would have to give this a 8.75 out of 10, go pick it up. |
