Region: Cryto Name: Darrion Alphonse Wiegand (Darrion Leaf) Age: 20 Hometown: Mossdeep City, Hoenn Occupation: Trainer Description: ~ Hair Color: Auburn ~ Eye Color: Blue ~ Physical Description: Darrion stands tall at six foot one, weighing in at an average weight of around a hundred and seventy pounds. He is athletically built, but tends to cleave towards a lighter and more lithe side instead of a full barrel-chested frame. He has had physical trainers for much of his life, leading to a fit and active guy who has perhaps too much energy for his own good. Never one for weightlifting, it was aerobics and acrobatics that gave Darrion his body, and with a noticeable lack of peer pressure, he never was truly a sports fan of any sort, though he did partake in organized gymnastics and fencing prior to his Pokémon journey. He uses this acrobatic experience both as a tool in his adventures and as a showman's tool; after all, what better way to grab attention? He has a large scar on the left side of his upper chest, along with numerous stitches, scars, and burn marks which criss-cross his body. These are recent additions, relics of the Mesquite incident mostly, with some being older scars from his various adventures. However, most of these are covered by his clothes, and it could be argued his choice of wearing long sleeves and full pants might be linked to this scarring. ~ Attire: Darrion has based his attire for his trip Cryto primarily on a popular style for the upper echelons of the Training world of Sinnoh; this Ace Trainer outfit has been custom tailored for the trainer, fitted perfectly and reproduced in multiple pairs for his trip. By means of his rather excessive monetary abilities, Darrion was able to send ahead multiple copies of this outfit to various Pokémon centers across Cryto for him to pickup when necessary, along with a few replacements for some of his equipment. The outfit retains the same colors as the standard version. Darrion has, however, made four primary alterations to the design of the outfit based upon his personal needs and preferences. Most noticeable addition of a green jacket similar in size to that of the Pokémon Rangers of Hoenn, fitted with a number of pockets and pouches that Darrion uses to carry his array of gadgets and tools. The jacket is often discarded during battle, sometimes dramatically. This flair for dramatics has caused some problems for Darrion before when he agitates a wild Pokémon or gets it stuck somewhere, or on someone. Still, he enjoys the jacket and is not often seen without it, sparing his times in battle. The second of his additions is a bandanna or kerchief of sorts that he wears over his head. The kerchief is the same color as the green of the outfit and his jacket with a white Pokéball stencil outline, and he is rarely seen without it on, as much a trademark as his jacket. The third of his alterations is that of an angled belt harness that swings down along his right side, holding his six Pokéballs for ease of use and retrieval during combat. This is a simple set up, serving as a sort of holster almost. This allows him to quickly draw and cycle out his Pokémon. His ability to juggle, including one handed, is also put to use for this quick swapping and for the showmanship he loves. His fourth and final alteration is a multi-pocketed sling-bag that he uses to carry his equipment, extra Pokéballs, restorative items, and other things he has acquired or brought with him. Strangely, this tends to be unnaturally deep and he is often seen pulling out just what the group needs from his sack. Although he hides it more often then not, Darrion also has an emerald shard necklace with a simple silver braided chain, which he wears under his clothing. He is not comfortable talking about it's origin, nor why it seems to pulse every so often, sometimes in tune with the beating of his heart. ~ Items: Darrion has been more open and liberal in the application of his vast resources as of late, his parent's supporting him generously and supplying him with a nearly bottomless private expense account, funding by a combination of residuals from their own inventions and companies (such as Togekiss Air and the programming for Pokénav), his mother's shrewd investment sense, and at least a small part from the sale and winnings of Pokémon bred from stock that he caught and raised. He has been prolific in his charity donations after the Mesquite incidents, often donating in names other than his own, but retains a large quantity of funds for his own use as well. He uses a Hoenn Pokénav, but also possesses a Pokéberry in his forest green color as well applications not covered by the Pokénav. In general, however, he tends to go for the Nav first, which he stores on his left side, opposite his Pokéballs. He also possesses a Hoenn Pokédex which has been updated with the new software for Cryto and the other regions as well. This is, like the other gear he has, colored a forest green color; a product of his rather vast resources. He also has updated his Pokénav with a PokéRadar function, a factor quite useful in finding his sometimes eccentrically chosen Pokémon. Darrion carries only one thing that is truly close to a weapon: a bullwhip. It is an authentic hand-crafted piece he picked up in Kanto, made of prime Tauros leather and has been a constant tool and protection device for him for some time now. He is quite adept at using it, and it serves as an effective enhancement of his mild acrobatics. He stores the belt along his left side as well. He has a number of one-off gadgets and items invented by his father, such as the CenterBike, a portable Pokécenter. Or so it was supposed to be. The frame of the bike contained six enclosed slots for Pokéballs, and a capacitor was charged while the Trainer rode. However, it took a few miles to build up a charge and an hour or so to heal Pokémon in this manner, thus making it less effective then hoped. As a result it never reached mass production, and one of the early models made it's way into Darrion's hands. This is just one of many random and less-then-effective gadgets that Darrion often makes use of; though they'd never reach mass circulation, he finds them at least moderately effective, and if nothing more they can often serve as a conversation piece. He is also often seen with an MP3 player. Personality: Darrion has two faces: a showy and outgoing trainer who has too much energy and a habit of getting himself into trouble; his second face, however, is more reserved. Shy, untrusting, snide, and cautious, this second face is one he hides away behind a persona and false name. These two parts of Darrion are as much true faces as anything, and each has it's own origin and purpose. The two parts of him have become more defined over time, which has led to issues with many friends when he reveals that he is not quite who he said he was. However, he maintains he was justified in his reasoning, and that is perhaps the one unifying feature of his personalities: he rarely admits to being wrong. His first side, that of the outgoing Darrion Leaf, is an adventurer-some showoff who likes flashy entrances and adrenaline pumping stunts. He rarely plans, instead adopting a habit of flying by the seat of his pants and rolling with the punches. Very little can get him down, and very little slows him down. To others, he is friendly, welcoming, and warm. He will go out of his way to save someone from sometimes even minor things, and makes friends with nearly anyone. He also has a great desire to do the right thing and see people get what they deserve, be it good or bad. He is friendly towards Pokémon, often encouraging them and cheering them on from the sidelines. It was this part of him that came out when he left his home for his journeys, and it was this part that got him involved in the Mesquite affair. However, he has been less inclined to show this side of him afterward. The second side, that of the reserved and cautious Darrion Wiegand, heir to the Wiegand fortune, sly and cunning planner with a snarky and snide attitude that tends to put people off. He can be quite rude or cold, but still attempts to help people as much as possible, but has a habit of berating them afterward or even while he helps them. His battle style becomes more akin to a chessmaster; quiet contemplation, sharp moves, and an utter lack of commentary, a far cry from his cheering encouragement. On the plus, his Pokémon often can sense this shift in him, and adjust accordingly. He is still praising afterwords for effort, but remains somewhat distant. Over time he will fade back into his more cheerful self, but it does take some time and patience for those around him. In a way this is the side of him he truly dislikes, but one he seems unable to get rid of as well, and in a way, a side he does not wish to get rid of. This is also the side of him that a certain green someone sees the most promise in, and perhaps the reason he has retained his... service, beyond simple or fleeting whimsy. One thing to be clear is that he is not medically bipolar, nor schizophrenic. Nor does he switch between his two styles at random or even of his own accord. Far from it, it's likely a triggering event which causes a change in him, often a very noticeable and large event. For example, the aftermath of the Mesquite Incident left him emotionally and physically drained, with a loss of respect in people and a corresponding lack of general hope. His dreams had been dashed, hopes shattered, and in the end all he gained was months in intensive care and a place as a pawn in a Machiavellian schemers plans. He has been more upbeat in his change to Cryto, but this may be a facade as much as anything, but at the least it is a step in, hopefully, the right direction. Biography/History: Darrion was born into the same city he'd grow up in, the metropolis of Mossdeep, to Allan and Harriette Wiegand. His parents brought him into a world without want; both where accomplished in their fields and had amassed fortunes that separately would have been enough to supply their son with anything he ever wanted or needed (abet with the former being far larger then the latter), send him to any school they wanted, and provide him with the greatest medical care possible. Together, however, they formed one of the largest concentrations of privately owned wealth in Hoenn. The origin of these funds can be traced most directly to Allan's various inventions and programs, such as the a cheap and efficient manner of converting the power of Pokémon, electrical and otherwise, into usable energy on a large scale. This invention became key to Togekiss Air, hailed as a sort of 'friendly' air company that utilized teams of Pokémon to power the airplanes. His mother gained her fortunes with shrewd investment, and it was in her learning about and funding Togekiss Air in the early days which led to it's great growth, and the fortunes of both of Darrion's parents. It also eventually led to their marriage, as their close partnership led into romance, and beyond. Their first and oldest child, Darrion was something of a learning process for the new parents. Both being able to be charitably described as eccentric or quirky, they provided a not-quite normal environment to grow up in; an environment that shaped Darrion in a unique manner. Indeed, it made him vastly curious of everything money couldn't buy: friends and experiences. He knew people from his schooling, but he found his somewhat quirky nature opposed to the natural order of things for most of them. And any people from other parts of his society These two things predisposed him to take up the Pokémon challenge. He started it as soon as he was old enough, his parents peculiar nature meaning they gave him their blessing to go; his father still remembered his journey, and his mother had regretted never going on her own. They, true to their natures, supplied him with the trust fund that, at first, he rarely put to use. He completed his licensing exam easily, received a Treecko as his first Pokémon, and began his journey in earnest. A clever kid, his first journey was to Rustboro City, it's gym being the one he knew he'd have the most ease with due to the nature of his first Pokémon. He didn't, however, expect it to take three month for him to get there. A long string of delays prevented his arrival, mostly caused by the unwelcome antics of Hoenn's resident fringe groups, Team Magma and Aqua. Specifically, their spats led to the closing of a number of roads, routes, and tunnels he has planned to use on his way, and it often seemed (to his young mind) as if the world was conspiring against him. The second sort of delay was when he was recognized; his family being of certain status, this was inevitable, but something he truly hated. It was a legacy he wanted to get away from. But, sadly, he felt as thought all he could be known as was the Wiegand heir, and this revelation had broken up many budding friendships, for various reasons, each time it was uncovered. However, the lengthy trip did have it's benefits. While his past made it hard to make lasting friends, as well as his own inexperience (to the point of ineptitude), he was still meeting new people and experiencing new things that he'd never have had a chance to before. He was also catching Pokémon; real and wild Pokémon, something he'd never had a chance to truly see, let alone interact with. His Treecko grew quickly, as eager to experience the world as Darrion was, and as eager to learn as well. Darrion did not alter his plans, keeping on his long term path to Rustboro. Along the way he expanded his team; by the time he reached his destination he had a Wingull, and a Kirlia he had caught as Ralts and raised along the way. He entered the Rustboro Gym with confidence, and a short time later he left with a wide grin, his first badge tucked away in his case, and a Groyvle at his side; his first Pokémon had evolved during it's first gym battle. It took him just under two years to complete the Hoenn circuit; he swept through, despite the delays and detours. By the time he'd finished his team had grown. He entered Victory Road with a fierce Sceptile, elegant Gallade, agile Pelliper, massive Aggron, freezing Glalie, and shocking Manectric. A balanced and complete team, all hand caught and trained by the trainer. He bested the challenges of the road, and went with a grin to face the Elite Four. He did not, however, win. He returned home, at first dejected, but then simply emboldened to continue his journey, and return when he was ready. And, abet secretly, he hoped to go to a different land and to find some sort of escape from his name for a bit. He was not naive; Darrion knew he'd need to face it some day. Still, he would enjoy his youth, or so he hoped. His parents, easy going as always, accepted his choice rather quickly; the mother saw it as life experience for the future, and the father... well, he was a father, and he wanted simply a happy son. As long as it was a moral choice, Allan would have accepted anything. And, perhaps, the trip to Johto was expedited by the arrival of Darrion's first sibling: his brother, Alec. He was, after all, still a pre-teen, and that was not exactly the sort of thing he thought would be fun to be around. He had no illusions about his parents love for him, but the doting, and the baby itself... well, he could do with out that. He was twelve years old when he entered Johto, a rambunctious Totodile at his side. And, fresh from his Hoenn experiences and with a new person as Darrion Leaf, he began to do something he'd never done before... hit it off with people. In particular, a young girl by the name of April Kay. She shared his unbridled excitement for all things Pokémon, and an equally unconquerable adventuring spirit. The two seemed to be attached at the hip for months, making their way across Johto, facing down gyms and wild Pokémon, and the minor, mostly quiet adventures they managed to get themselves tangled up with. Darrion savored the journey, and the friendship, and the crush that blossomed. Between a relationship he'd never experienced, the nature of growing up, and the simple closeness necessitated by their journey, it was inevitable, at least for him. But, unfortunately for him, his past caught up with him. Darrion had kept his past cloaked by half-truths and topic changes. He was remarkably good at leading a conversation, and perhaps a little to proud of his ability to speak without saying anything; he would say he never lied, and perhaps, in definition he did not. But he did not tell the truth either, or at least not the whole truth. Instead, he covered up his history, forgetting that it was going to catch up with him sooner or later. It was Team Rocket that did it. Or, it was the pairs inability to not get into trouble that eventually led them to Team Rocket that did it, to say it in a long run on sentence, such as this long run on sentence right here. A goon was attempting to steal a child's Pokémon, and April, true to her hot headed nature, rushed to stop it. Darrion, taking a more metered approach, watched out for any backup the thief might have had. He was wise to watch out. Darrion's Feraligatr scared off a pair of thugs who, being amongst the lower echelons of the organization, had no Pokémon of their own. April dealt with the the other goon, actually ending up fighting hand to hand as her Meganium went toe to coil with a Seviper. That was, at least, until her highly unique Girafarig stepped in to split things up. He thought nothing of it to be in the news, and the article gave no mention of who he was, other then his cover name. It was, after all, a minor story. A feel good piece, a humanity. He enjoyed the mild fame of another sort. And he expected it to simple be that, as passing fame, 15 minutes at most, if that. But unfortunately, he was not so lucky. The second time they ran into Team Rocket, less then a weak later, they had come prepared. They had also deduced his identity, and their goal had become two fold; they came to steal Abba, April's Girafarig, and to kidnap Darrion. Both would be useful in their own way, but they would get neither. The pair of trainers and their Pokémon evaded capture time and time again. Darrion began to worry that eventually the truth might come out, and suddenly was faced with a situation he had no preparation to deal with. Things finally came to head in Olivine City. That fight reached an actual headline, revealing publicly Darrion's history. He had no plan to deal with the revelation and, scared of what April would think, was quick to disappear. He left a note, nothing more, attached to the article. He would not see her again in the entirety of Johto, and he would not realize he had seen her even when they finally did encounter one another once more, years later. He finished the Johto circuit in silence, but dared not take part in the championship nor face the Elite Four, fearing his charade would once again be found out. The last thing he wanted was to be caught up again, either by Team Rocket, nor... other parties. Instead, he quietly chartered a private plane using his personal trust fund and flew to another region: Sinnoh. Sinnoh was an uneventful trip. He did not begin with a new team this time, instead using the same team he had used during his Johto journey, abet with a few replacements as he went along. He spent a year in Sinnoh, collecting the third of his badge sets, and finished in the top fifty of the championship. He was more reserved in this trip, though he made a few friends who, lucky, never learned the truth about their mysteriously well equipped friend. After Sinnoh he left for a new place. This time, he found himself in Kanto and continued his journey, eventually facing off against the Elite Four and managing to get to the third of the four before he willingly withdrew, knowing his team couldn't take much more. He had been away for over half a decade, chasing his dreams. He had made friends, but few lasted, and he began to wonder if he'd ever truly have life friends. After all, how could they know someone whose name they never even truly new? And, at least, he decided to return home. It had been years since he was home. But, unfortunately, the journey was not pleasant. Very little is known about his two years in Hoenn, other then his involvement with a strange organization, a thought-dead Professor by the name of Mesquite, and an eventual hospital stay which lasted for three months, followed my three months of physical therapy. After it was done, he chartered a private boat and left for an only recently open land of Cryto, a single Pokémon at his side and a strange green gem around his neck. He practiced his acrobatics on the private journey, a sort of personal therapy in preparation for the new league cycle. He was going to go all the way, this time. He was going to win it all, and he was going to do it as himself. Pokémon: Nickname: Whil Species: Swinub (Shiny) Gender: Male Nature: Jolly Personality and Traits: Curious and brave, Whil is known for getting his Trainer in trouble from his wandering off and over friendliness of people who seem either warm or have a pleasant smell about them. He is, however, extremely good at finding berries, and Darrion has trained him not to eat them right away but to instead simply point them out for Darrion to collect. He still likes to sneak a few away when Darrion is not looking, however. He is quite proud of his shiny coat, and has actually successfully pretended to be an over-sized watmel berry before. Very over-sized, really, as he is somewhat over-sized even for a Swinub. Level: 32 Attacks: -Dig -Ice Shard -Take Down -Odor Sleuth -Hail -AncientPower Pokéball: A Luxury Ball, standard in outward design, except for an embossed W on the sphere's upper portion. Ball Capsule is a burst of icy crystals. Edited by Daedalus, Mar 31 2011, 00:28.
