Updated 10/08/2010 ~ Idiot me forgot to remove a chunk since I split the Pokémorph RPG off. Gah!
Updated 12/08/2010 ~ I find it funny that two months later, I finally fix the history and remove all the old bits. Hrrmm... What happened to the darling, spunky protagonist during those three years?

Name: April Jenelle Kay
Age: 20
Hometown: Silver Falls, Johto (north of Tojoh Falls)
Occupation: Researcher/Trainer
Image: { Here }
Description: (Skin color is # F1BB89)
~ Hair Color: Brown (#72461A), bangs dyed light pink (#EE9EBA)
~ Eye Color: Brown (#7A421C)
~ Physical Description: April is a short little firecracker, standing at 5’ 3”, weighing in at 120 .lbs even, and as curvaceous as the sand dunes of the Artisan Desert in Hoenn. Glaringly bright cotton candy pink bangs mask half of her face most of the time and her deep brown half-curly locks trail down mid-thoracic. Four sets of clumps are set apart, two small pink strands, and two larger brown locks on both sides. She did not arrive to Cryto with the bright bangs, she decided to bleach and dye her hair once discovering that she would not have “any supervision”. Her eyes are a hue of chocolate, although Abba reports that they either turn black or flicker gold when she’s angered. Her skin’s lightly sun-kissed, she often goes off by herself to “get her glow back”, it’s one of the few vain motions she goes through on daily basis. April hates it when her skin becomes too pale, to her it appears green.
~ Attire: STAPLES – Red boots with a white (well, white-ish) sole, silver hoop earrings, a glass vial (reported to contain a gray-blue gas, or possibly blood) strung on a black cord, and either black or brown armwarmers.
“Official” Outfit – A white and black baseball jersey tee with a pink stripe across the chest, olive drab skirt made from a durable khaki material, pockets are made inside of the skirt for money and her pocket knives and switchblade. Her deep leather belt has six ball pockets on the left side and a hefty brass buckle keeps everything in place. Often she has her black armwarmers, whether they be pushed down for the summer heat, or pulled all the way up to protect from the cold. She has two pairs of legwarmers she will wear with this outfit: One pair is pink and white striped which has enough fabric to almost act as thigh-socks. The other pair has a black leather corseted top layer, with white, soft sweater underneath.
Outfit 2 – Dirty, well-worn jeans are the pick, she’s probably had them since she was sixteen (which is a long time for her jeans) with a teal puff-sleeve button up with an orange hoodie henley layered underneath. Her dusty grayish brown cincher-vest holds her pokéballs and blukberry around her waist, the cream pinstripe almost making her looked dressed up. Well, if it weren’t for those dusty jeans and her brown armwarmers.
Outfit 3 – Those dirty jeans make a welcome return, as do the cincher vest, but instead she’s wearing a sky blue, western-style button up shirt with mother-of-pearl buttons and shirt pockets, though she often rolls up the sleeves and has added two swatches of brown fabric, sewing one end on the underside of the shirt, and buttoning on the topside.
On most occasions if she does need to “dress up”, she simply purchases an outfit in town and uses it for the one occasion. She will often send the outfit back home, and the outfit is then donated.
~ Items: A tan mail carrier inspired satchel, a blukberry with a full pokédex and internet capabilities, a mortar and pestle, a small black notebook, another red notebook with recipes, a pocket knife, a switch blade, another small knife that she usually keeps hidden in the left side of her bra, lots and lots of sugar-substitute packets, ball-breakers, and a dark red sleeping bag (strapped to the underside of the satchel).
Personality: For the most part, April is friendly and jovial (if a little sarcastic), a trustworthy sort of girl one could easily converse with. She has an immense knowledge of Pokémon, and she’s always yearning to learn more. She’s well versed in travel and battle, having completed in one way or another regions Kanto, Johto (her home region), Hoenn, and Sinnoh, and spends equal time researching and participating in battles all across the land. She has only participated in the Kanto/Johto championship once, however, and she has vowed never to return again. She’ll agree to any challenge, whether she’s at the advantage or disadvantage, as each new battle is a brand new learning experience. Abba, her famed side-kick and translator, often acts as the communication line between April and her Pokémon. Some of her lackluster qualities would be that she’s headstrong and harbors a stupidly brave nature, usually diving headfirst into trouble. Abba is her safety net as well, often teleporting her out before the worst happens. Safe to say, he’s teleported her so many times that he can pin her marker down even if he’s in the next region, and that is a rare skill indeed.
Biography: As a rule, April Kay rarely speaks about her past beyond a mutter under her breath, or only when it is absolutely necessary. She’ll give you only basic specs; she was born in Johto to Trisha Kay. Her father hasn’t been in the picture for some time. April Kay has Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn’s gym badges. She’s only participated in the Kanto/Johto Championships, and that was before the death of her venusaur, Boomer. She graduated with a diploma when she was 18, having mostly been self-tutored while on her adventures. Currently she works for Professor’s Oak and Elm as a field researcher, “but doesn’t almost everyone work in some way for Professors as trainers? “, as she would retort. That’s the basics that people may hear in conversation; but there’s a lot more to her story.

As per the common tradition, a child is given the option at ages ten and eleven to go off on a summer Pokémon adventure. April Kay chose to at eleven, and started in the neighboring region of Kanto. Nothing remarkable would occur there aside from ranking fourteenth in the championship, having spent most of the summer and into the fall—having to battle strictly on weekends as the school year started—training her team, competing in the gyms and acquiring badges up until that year’s Championship held in the August. On her way home from the Championship, she encountered a drunken Rocket member who wildly shot at her and her Venusaur, Boomer. Boomer knocked her out of the way, and took the shot directly to his head. He fell over a cliff, and ultimately to his death. April Kay has yet to recover from the loss of her Venusaur entirely, and decided to dedicate her life to exterminating “evil” organizations such as Team Rocket.

It would take her almost two years to return to training, during that time she worked for Professors Oak and Elm, mostly delivering errands for them. With the Professors’ combined help, along with Trisha’s, they sent April Kay back to adventuring not long after her 13th birthday with a small, male Chikorita in tow. She would meet a Girafarig right before arriving in Violet City; he had run away from a farm and decided to strike it out on his own. He discovered days later that he couldn’t survive out on his own, but thankfully met the trainer and the two quickly bonded. Abba hasn’t left her side since.

Much to her chagrin, she has found herself on the front page articles of newspapers across the regions a handful of times. The most notable of these newspaper appearances happened in Johto; she was fourteen at the time.

The first was an incident in Johto, and April Kay’s first time dealing with the media came during a time of “freedom”. Not long after she befriended Abba, she met another fellow soul in a boy named Darrion Shepherds. The two took to each other like bread and butter, sharing a passion for Pokémon, researching and observing their world around them, and adventure. He had previously trained in Hoenn, and so the two soaked up information from each other like sponges. As Abba would put it, they were “inseparable”. For some months, the two quietly travelled through Johto, which unbeknownst to the other was quite a relief! April Kay was still recovering from Boomer’s death, and Darrion had run away from his life of luxury in order to be a normal person. Their first appearance in the paper likely sparked the downfall of their friendship by method of revelations about each other, specifically about Darrion’s past.

April Kay had taken a stand against Rocket in her blind rage, one had attempted to steal a little girl’s Buneary—a rare sight in Johto, as it is a Sinnoh Pokémon—and she had thrown out Legolas the Bayleef to defend the Buneary and the little girl. Legolas and the Rocket’s Seviper fought in the streets, unguarded essentially, while their trainers squabbled alongside. The Rocket had tried to go for the Buneary anyway, despite being in battle, and April Kay bluntly put a stop to it by actually getting into a fight with him. Abba’s powers were discovered for the first time as well, as he “bubbletrapped” the two fighting Pokémon. Darrion was wary of the possibility for Rocket back up, and was still strategizing how best to end the fight without his friend becoming injured. Eventually, Abba had to step in and blast the two apart with his psychic energy in order to end their brawl. The Rocket was picked up by the authorities, and the two trainers and their “amazing Girafarig” made the front page the next morning in Goldenrod City.

It was no less than a week later that Team Rocket appeared before April Kay and Darrion Shepherds again, but this time with stronger Pokémon and two goals in mind; to steal the overpowered Girafarig, and to kidnap the rich kid. The truth about Darrion’s past would be evaded for some time, the two scraping out battle after battle with Rocket until their luck ran out in Olivine City. That would be the second time April Kay and Darrion Shepherds made headlines together; “Wealthy Teen Breaks Out; Rocket Hideout Discovered”. April Kay was listed as the other teen that escaped. With each proclamation of Darrion’s family wealth, and bits about his life he never shared, her view changed of him. April Kay and Abba felt betrayed, and left Darrion with only a goodbye note attached to the article. They would not see each other again.

In Cianwood, April Kay made the news media—thankfully only on the island—once again. She had infiltrated yet another Rocket hideout, except this time it resulted in an explosion that obliterated not only the laboratory, but the workers inside. She barely escaped with her life, thanks to an Articuno. The news report says nothing about what caused the explosion, or what the Rockets were researching on that desolate rock island out at sea, but whatever it was the town of Cianwood was thankful that Team Rocket had been exterminated from the area. A memorial stands at the site, a large statue of a mother Dragonite holding her Dratini young, made of cement, stands solemnly over a plaque of names and Pokémon species, cataloging their deaths. It recounts the events as they were told at the time, although the seawater has worn most of it away.

April Kay doesn’t seem to mind that, however, if anything she’s glad that some of the things from her past have buried themselves under silt. She continues on and completes the rest of the Johto circuit, returning home for a winter’s rest before heading off to research for two-and-a-half years in Kanto, Johto, the Sevii Islands, and Hoenn. By the time she returns, she is seventeen.

There have been reports and rumors circulating about the young trainer since the incident in Goldenrod. Some say she lives on a ranch deep in western Johto’s mountains, and takes care of genetically enhanced Gyarados. Some say the Articuno seen the day of the Cianwood explosion belongs to her; others say it is an angel of Ho-Oh, sent to protect her. There are even rumors of incidents in Hoenn, reports circulating around a long visit in a hospital due to ‘exhaustion’. Wilder rumors speculate a possible chest injury. There are even rumors about her joining Team Aqua for the duration of her stay in Hoenn! Although oddly, there are few records of nineteen year old April Kay actually being in Hoenn, only that she appeared at the gyms with a full team intact and completed each one with only one or two attempts. As per her usual, she did not participate in the Championship.

According to April Kay and Flaithrí Mochrie, they were on their way to Sinnoh via the cruiseliner S.S. Tiffany when the boat hit turbulent weather and sent the two overboard. Oddly, she was dressed as a Team Aqua member when the two were found on the beach at Capo. The two were among the first of the visitors to Cryto, if inadvertently.

Pokémon:
Nickname: Abba
Species: Girafarig
Gender: Male
Nature: Naïve
Personality: Abba is April Kay’s loyal sidekick and best friend. He’s known to be rather silly, playful, childish, and all in all a fun loving guy who probably will drive you nuts. Baab, his tail-head, is a quiet, if impish tag-along that is the actual source of all of Abba’s incredible powers, as sometime during Johto he devoured the wandering soul of a Mew. Regularly, any gifted psychic can easily see the Mew, as its tail is stuck inside of Baab’s mouth. The Mew seems to only retain the curious nature of its species, and possibly may have reflected its personality traits onto Baab. Baab seems to control the Mew, and thereby its power, however.
Level: 72
Attacks: Psychic, Stomp, Metronome*, Teleport*, Nasty Plot*, Agility ((*Mew’s attacks, summoned through Baab))
Pokéball: Great Ball (although he’s rarely in it)

It was morning. Or, it felt like morning. It felt like the morning after a really long night of getting the snot knocked out of her more than once. She hated those morning-afters, they were worse than what a party-goer’s would be. Or, at least that’s what she always assumed. April Kay was never the type to party.

She pushed against her bed. No. Sand, wet sand in fact, and what she thought had been a cold, drafty blanket was indeed waves splashing up and down the coastline in harmonious nature. Her mouth was full of salt and grit, some of it instinctively swallowed before she realized the contents. Her nostrils felt raw, her eyes felt hot and dirty, hell, even her head felt heavy with water and sand. Slowly she shoved herself up, having to push harder than usual against the easily shifting sand. Her left leg slowly heaved forward, knee shoving into the grits below. Unfortunately, her knee hit a rock and sent a sharp pang up her leg, through her spine and straight to the pulsating ache that was her brain. She cursed, and shoved the leg over and forward further, inspecting the new laceration once it was in place. “Wonderful,” She grunted, the first word she had said since she awoke. “I’m bleeding, and I’m on a beach, and I have no idea where I am.”

“At least we washed up on shore…” Flurry, her companion that she nearly forgot about, murmured from the sand next to her. He was on his back, so raising up for him was much easier—or at least one would assume but the lithe boy still had a time-and-a-half doing such. April smiled for a moment, pleased to know that her new friend had made it safely through the night.

“Some cruise, huh?” April remarked, finally up on both legs and able to sit up on her knees—despite the sharp tearing pain screaming in protest. “Some night…”

She could see Flurry’s blonde locks bobbing in agreement. The venomoth he called Zeppo then landed on his head, and chattered. Apparently, Zeppo had found something. Flurry glanced up, as though he could understand the purple moth, and then nodded once again. “Hey, there’s a town nearby… Aysa?”

“April.” She corrected, shoving up finally off of the sand and into an upright position. Her knees continued to ache in protest. “Not an Aqua now.” She added in a grunt. Her hand went to her bare thigh, her fingers gracing the outline of the Team Aqua’s emblem that was tattooed in her skin. “Damn henna ink won’t wear out for another week…” Her fingernails dug in, leaving red marks across the blue A.

“Yeah, sorry I forgot again,” Flurry replied apologetically. She couldn’t blame him; after the rollercoaster ride of an escape they had, he was doing well to just to function. He could have easily died from hypothermia. He didn’t, though, and April was thankful for that. She didn’t need another dead soul resting on her conscious.

“So… To town?” Flurry’s sweet voice broke April away from dark thoughts of the dead. Her head slowly turned, and she offered him a smile.

“To town then, Flurry. Let’s go get dry.” She forced herself to her feet, and the two took to the beach and walked. April Kay allowed Daerus the Milotic to rest in his ball, for he had exhausted himself trying to keep the two humans afloat during the rough weather. Libena the shiny Mightyena walked beside her, and Niveus slept on Libena’s back. She would return them to their rightful owners once in town, then finally bother to get her new clothing while Abba Teleport-hopped over to Cryto. She would be alone, but that was okay. Things were finally right again.
