So, if you live in Northern Virginia, two things I recommend: 1) Don't trust Dominion Virginia Power, and 2) don't rely on your Internet. The neighborhood next to mine lost power during the June 29 derecho. Mine, apart from minor damages (and the big tree blocking my driveway), was comparatively unscathed. Everything goes fine for about a week after the storm. Then, Dominion Power (the company that supplies all the homes in my immediate area), sends representatives around on the afternoon of the 6th telling people that they're going to cut power to my neighborhood so they can restore power to the other one. My response was, in a word, "Dafuq?" The representative tells us it'll only be for about four hours; they have to reroute some cables that for some stupid reason run through my neighborhood and into the one without power. So, three days later, the power finally comes back on. I was already furious with Dominion for lying to us about the timeframe (yeah, I get that unforeseen problems sometimes arise, but going from four hours to three days was bullshit). So, I go online to the other DT forums to bitch. Except the wireless is down. Okay, I think to myself. I'll go downstairs and reset the router. Nope, doesn't do shit. I plug my computer directly into the router; nope, doesn't do shit. I unplug the router and put the Internet cable directly into the computer; nope, doesn't do shit. Turns out, in the process of repairing whatever the hell it was they were trying to fix, Dominion cut all of the fiber optic or whatever cables to my entire neighborhood. And, being the incompetent cocksuckers that they are, they just buried their mistake and left. We had to call our Internet provider to come out and take a look, and they found the problem almost immediately, because apparently it was obvious what had happened when the Internet repair crew came out to do work. So, after taking five days to rip up a good chunk of the cables going into my neighborhood, I finally have my Internet back, and we're having a big community meeting tonight to discuss opening up a lawsuit against Dominion. Because we're all pissed about this, I chief among them. So, now that I'm here, what did I miss? |

I did some thinking about the space RP (principally, my age-old vacillation between RPing the Federation or the Systems Alliance), and about the future of Tarkka (in a word: e-democracy). Suffice it to say, I had plenty of time to think about it. |

I am partial for a FedCom-Federation/Alliance first encounter in the space roleplay. I am really loving the new shipbuilding system for it
