The Coreli:
Spoiler: click to toggle
Posted Image

The Coreli are a race of telekinetic amphibians who have taken to the stars from their watery world of Hedion Prime only recently. They are a unique species able to harness their psionic abilities to launch telekinetic assaults on the minds of weaker creatures, launch ripples of force from the seemingly bizarre recesses in the fore of their faces, or communicate telepathically at a distance.

Physiologically the Coreli are a frail species adapted quite well to space travel; their bodies able to withstand a variety of gravitic forces, from high to low. However, they are quite skeptical of physical labour, preferring to use their telekinetic powers in communion with their peers rather than sheer brute force. Where their minds can be used as weapons, such activities drain the strength of the Coreli, and often the species prefers to utilize physical finesse to handle situations such as piloting craft, firing weapons, and walking. The height of the average Coreli is 150 cm, with an average weight of 40 kilograms. Coreli skin tones range between various hues of blue and purple, with eyes often a brilliant cyan or red. Hair is often rough black. Female Coreli are a rare sight, but are often considered attractive by other humanoid species. Coreli are notable for a complete lack of olfactory organs, internal ears, and a lack of lips. Coreli lack a sense of smell, and prefer the taste of sweet foods. Naturally xenophobic, Coreli are not commonly found in foreign lands, though wanderlust does capture some rogue adventurers.

Coreli technology is quite different from many other races; it is often molded and sculpted by the mind into strangely elegant shapes. Coreli weapons often rely on plasma bolts in combat environments with an atmosphere, whereas space combat vessels tend to rely upon the use of missiles ranging from cataclysmic graviton torpedoes to swarm micro-missiles. For sustained fire at close ranges; use is made of railguns, which can fire either flak grapeshot or heavy nuclear slugs. Defensively, Coreli technology focuses on the combined use of heavy shields derived from augmented psionic power and cloaks, which derive their power from fusion batteries.

As a psionic species, the Coreli were adverse to utilizing the Gateways for "FTL" travel, instead pursuing more 'conventional' ship-based methods. These methods involve the utilization of what is known to Humans as the Alcubierre drive. However, only the Coreli are currently capable of activating such a drive, as their telekinetic power is the only known method able to generate such a warp bubble to generate the drive. As such, Coreli navigators are a rare and valuable commodity among races seeking to experiment in the arts of FTL travel.

Domestic Policies

Idealized by many as the perfect Communist interstellar nation, it is unclear what True Core really represents politically. While the notion that Coreli society is cooperativist is true, Core society seems at a loss as to whether the society has turned into social fascists, authoritarian communists, or a true utopia. Many Coreli are happy with their nation, feel that government is just, and it is believed that over 80% of the people find their government preferable to all other types of governance.

Domestically Core society is a racial welfare state, where only Coreli are provided for. Harsh laws are levied on immigrants and travelers from other interstellar nations, including heavy taxes; though some cultural phenomena among humans, like alcoholism, is accepted by the Coreli. Taxes are almost nonexistent, wages merely used for luxuries, and all goods that benefit the progress of the state belong to the all encompassing bureaucracy.

The goal of Coreli society is a cruel, unstoppable march towards progress. To this end, the ruthless agencies of the Core have destroyed entire worlds to create massive swathes of farmland; resource rich worlds have undergone the process of strip mining, all care for native life forgotten. Entire species have been annihilated to construct vast megacities, with nothing but small parks left to provide some comfort for what little guilt the Coreli politicians felt for their part. But Coreli society is a picturesque image of beauty that few otusiders would envision for the evil machinations they would otherwise believe the nation to be capable of. Humans society often envisions Coreli society as the perfect harmony of peace of progress; little attention is given to the acts of in'humanity' of the states deeds.

To continue the image of tranquility and further the popularity of the government, a secretive agency of awesomely potent telepaths ensure absolute loyalty; when that loyalty has been violated, the destructive power of dangerously potent and brainwashed telekinetic assassins crush the dissidents. Psionic powers are strictly regulated within True Core out of knowledge of their potential; all children are immediately registered with the Core Registry of Psionics for information regarding their aptitude. Particularly promising individuals are 'requisitions' by the Core for training in the enigmatic counterintelligence agency. Those individuals whose loyalty is not absolute are killed before their powers grow too far.
