Very dangerous to exit from the side doors of a helicopter with props mounted to either side. Unless it's just a two-seater, no one is going to latch on to this idea. |

Plausible, but the tail boom becomes an issue, especially on the model shown. On the one hand, it has to be high enough so that a person can safely walk on/off a rear ramp. But, if you have props mounted to either side of the airframe, the tail boom and the all important rear horizontal stabilizers and elevators need to be low enough to have an effect on the wind flow from the props. Now, I don't touch helicopters. My work strictly involves wings, fuselages, cockpits - essentially shit without a giant rotating decapitation device spinning around on the top of it (we usually like to keep that stuff on the inside ). So, what works with a helicopter is different than what works with a standard airplane. But, when you try to cross the two, invariably you have to deal with the problems and characteristics from both platforms. And in this case, the prop positioning and the location of any entry hatches aside from the cockpit are major issues.Looking more closely at the helicopter shown, I can see side doors behind the cockpit indicating a rear cabin. It looks like the intention is that you walk up behind the propellers, skirting the tailboom, then coming up the side of the craft until you reach the doors. But the handle position reads as if the door would open towards you, so you'd have to step out (and closer) to the propeller in order to get in. Or, you'd just have to risk walking in front of the propeller to gain access. In either case, as a designer I'm frankly offended by what I see. That's flat-out fucking dangerous as far as I'm concerned. We're supposed to be doing things to further advance the science of aircraft technology, not endanger the lives of the people that use it. Keep this thing as a two-seater reconnaissance helicopter, and I won't complain. But trying to put a rear cabin is nothing short of gross negligence as far as I'm concerned. |

Yeah. The article says that "The wing-mounted propellers would be disengaged when the helicopter lands to avoid injury." However, it seems like it would be very easy for a deadly accident to happen. Here's a picture from another angle:
