Considered Washington's premier residential address in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Massachusetts Avenue became known for its numerous mansions housing the city's social and political elites. The segment between Scott Circle and Sheridan Circle, which today is Embassy Row, gained the nickname "Millionaires' Row". The street began to lose its elite luster in the 1920s, and some neighborhoods east of Scott Circle decayed as the Great Depression caused many to sell their homes. Fashionable living shifted from Massachusetts Avenue to 16th Street NW. Nations competed to build or maintain grand residences to represent their nation's significance in the capital of the new American superpower, and the expansive old estates proved well-suited for use as embassies (and also act as lodges of many social clubs). Currently, Embassy Row continues to serve this purpose, with many of the old buildings refurbished, similar to the rest of the American capital damaged after the chaos of the collapse of the United States and the War of American Preservation, as a place of diplomacy in the one of the world's military and economic superpowers. Within short distance is the National Mall, the White House and the Federal States Congress building and the repaired city gives off more intentional vibes of the grandeur of the Roman Empire than ever before as the Federation tends to adopt the long-admired image of the ancient republic as its own. The Kalmar Ministry of Defence has asked me to forward a confidential request to your government for a massive defensive contract, to overhaul the existing Kalmarite Navy in your extensive shipyards, and to revitalise our own by resuming construction of Stealth Corvettes, a technology we are prepared to share with your Defence Contractors in exchange for their assistance and investment. We offer a lucrative contract of up to $20 billion to achieve this. -Jonas Hafstrom, on behalf of the KMOD |

The Federal States War Department under Secretary Jim Webb and the Joint Chiefs of Staff are delighted, to say the least, by the Kalmar Defense Ministry's proposal and agrees wholeheartedly. The State Department wonders if the Kalmar Union would furthermore be interested in a mutual defense and military pact with the Federal States of America and have dispatched an invitation to that effect to the Kalmar Embassy in Washington. |

We thank the Federal States War Department for its rapid response and keen interest, and Saab AB would like to assist if possible in the co-construction of the Kalmarite War vessels, and invest in your shipyards at Norfolk, Virginia and at Hampton Roads. If possible they would also like to set up offices in the Federal States of America and recieve government license to compete with your defence contractors for future projects of this nature. Regarding a mutual defence and millitary pact, we believe such an alliance already exists between the Federal States of America and the Kalmar Union in the form of NATO. |
