Kalmar Union Armed Forces(KUFM)

The Kalmar Union Armed Forces is comprised largely of a rough almagamation of the structure and weapons of the former Armed Forces of Sweden and Norway. Given the Union's broader Liberal democratic ideals and Nordic unification aspirations, its millitary is unlikely to remain merely the sum of its parts for long. However, even this current 'Order of Battle' is a paper tiger- Hundreds of soldiers of the Swedish Army broke their oaths and fled with the Malmhaug Provost to Finland, and thousands of others are reluctant to rejoin their units under the Union Flag. Equipment also is missing, derelict or in poor condition. Despite this, whoever wins the upcoming elections is more than likely to immediately reactivate as much of the former Swedish and Norwegian Armed Forces as possible, raiding warehouses, rehiring soldiers and reactivating their respective Home Guards.

Equipment of the Army

AK-5C Modular FNC FAL (Rugged Assault Rifle)
Posted Image

The Ak 5 (sometimes AK5) is the Swedish version of the FN FNC assault rifle with certain modifications, mostly to adapt the weapon to the Swedish climate. The Ak 5 is the service rifle being favoured for the Kalmarite Armed Forces. Ak 5 is an abbreviation of automatkarbin 5 (literal translation "automatic carbine 5", "automatic carbine" is the Swedish term for assault rifle). The rifle is also known as the CGA5, Bofors Carl Gustav Automatic carbine 5. The Ak 5 replaced the Ak 4 (licensed G3 copy) in Swedish service. It also compliments the AG-3, the Norwegian version of the Ak-4.

There are several specialized versions available: the Ak 5B with a telescopic sight and a shortened version, the Ak 5D.

AK-4/AG-3 G3 Assault Rifle
Posted Image

The AK-4 variant rifles were manufactured from 1965 to 1970 by both Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfabrik and Husqvarna Vapenfabrik and from 1970 until the end of production in 1985 - exclusively by Gevärsfabrik in Eskilstuna. Also produced with a Hensoldt 4x24 telescopic sight mounted via a HK claw mount, known as the Ak 4OR and the Ak 4B variant, which features an Aimpoint red-dot reflex sight in place of the standard iron sights and an increased rate of fire.
Complimenting them are the just as common but more terrain and weather-hardened AG-3 variant, produced by Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk. A total of 253,497 units were produced for the Norwegian Armed Forces from 1967 to 1974. The Norwegian AG-3 differs from the original G3; it has a buttstock that is approx. 2 cm longer, the bolt carrier has a serrated thumb groove to aid in silent bolt closure, it features an all-metal cocking handle and a different bayonet mount.

G-36C/K HK Assault Rifle
Posted Image

The G36 is a selective fire 5.56mm assault rifle, firing from a closed rotary bolt. The G36 has a conventional layout and a modular component design. The G-36K is the Carbine Version, and it is reserved for use by the KU Special Forces Batallions only.
# G36K: (K—kurz or "short") carbine variant with a shorter barrel (fitted with an open-type flash suppressor) and a shorter forend, which includes a bottom rail that can be used to attach tactical accessories, such as a UTL flashlight from the USP pistol. The carbine's barrel lacks the ability to launch rifle grenades and it will not support a bayonet. The weapon retained the ability to be used with the AG36 grenade launcher. G36Ks in service with German special forces are issued with a 100-round C-Mag drum. There are two variants of the G36K. The first and most commonly known has x3 scope/carry handle attached to the top. The second and highly preferred variant of the G36K is the one with the iron sights and rail(NO SCOPE INCLUDED). It allows for more customization of optics and is more portable than the other variant.

PSG-90 Accuracy International AWM Anti-Material Sniper Rifle
Posted Image

The AWM rifle is a variant of the British Accuracy International Arctic Warfare (AW). Compared to the AW, the AWM has a longer bolt to accommodate larger magnum-length cartridges such as the .300 Winchester Magnum and the .338 Lapua Magnum.
The AWM features a detachable box magazine which holds five rounds. The normal cartridges for this rifle, and the ones which have been accepted by NATO for use in AWM rifles, are .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum.

It is used by all serious Sniper Units within the Kalmar Union Armed Forces.

Våpensmia NM149 Sniper Rifle
Posted Image
The NM149 sniper rifle was developed by Våpensmia A/S in close cooperation with the Norwegian Army and is based on the tried and true Mauser M 98 controlled feed bolt action. It is used by both the Home Guard and Kalmarite police forces, though it was originally designed at the request of the Norwegian Army.

Pist 88 Service Pistol
Posted Image

The Glock 17 is a 9mm short recoil-operated locked breech semi-automatic pistol that uses a modified Browning cam-lock system adapted from the Hi-Power pistol. The Glock's frame, magazine body and several other components are made from a high-strength nylon-based polymer invented by Gaston Glock and called Polymer 2.[16] This plastic was specially formulated to provide increased durability and is more resilient than carbon steel and most steel alloys. Variants of the Glock are widely used by all branches of the Kalmar Union Armed Forces.

KSP-90 FN Minimi Machinegun
Posted Image

The Minimi is a light machine gun firing from an open bolt. The weapon is primarily chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO, though a 7.62x51mm NATO variant exists. It is an air-cooled weapon, capable of fully automatic fire only. It can be belt fed or fired from a magazine. The Minimi is configured in several variants, the 'standard' model as a platoon or squad support weapon, the 'Para' version for paratroopers and the 'vehicle' model as secondary armament for fighting vehicles. Commonly used in all variants by both Paratroopers and Platoon Gunners.

AT-4 Personal Rocket Launcher
Posted Image

The AT4 is a portable one-shot anti-tank weapon built in Sweden by Saab Bofors Dynamics (previously Bofors Anti Armour Systems). In the U.S. and NATO inventory, it replaced the M72 LAW (Light Anti-armor Weapon). Saab has had considerable sales success with the AT4, making it one of the most common light anti-tank weapons in the world. It is intended to give infantry units a means to destroy or disable armored vehicles and fortifications, although it is not generally sufficient to defeat a modern main battle tank (MBT). The launcher and projectile are manufactured prepacked and issued as a single unit of ammunition, rather than as a weapon system, with the launcher discarded after a single use.

Vehicles of the Army

STRV-122 Leopard 2 MBT
Posted Image
Standard MBT of the Kalmar Union Forces, originally manufactured by Krauss-Meffei, now in Tomania. Currently both 2A5 and 2A4 variants are fielded by armoured units, drawn from both the Norwegian and Swedish vehicle pools.

CV90 IFV
Posted Image
The Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) or Stridsfordon 90 (Strf 90) is a Swedish infantry fighting vehicle designed by Hägglunds/Bofors and currently produced by BAE Systems Hägglunds. Fairly resilient All-terrain vehicle designed to support infantry in harsh conditions. Suprisingly heavy firepower.

PBV 302 APC
Posted Image
Pansarbandvagn 302 (pbv 302), is a Swedish high mobility armoured personnel carrier that was developed to meet the operational requirements of the Swedish Army. It was designed and manufactured by Hägglund and Söner in Örnsköldsvik (now Hägglunds Vehicle AB). Although an older design, the PBV302 continues to see frontline service, and is ideal for transporting troops across tundra.

PBV 401 MTP-LB AAPC
Posted Image
Originally Soviet in manufacture and design, the MTP-LB is a multi-purpose amphibious light armoured vehicle ideal for transporting troops or carrying out light armoured assaults across marshes, fenlands, or through rivers and other aquatic environments. Purchase in bulk from the collapsing SSRs, the Kalmar Union has found it suprisingly easy to rennovate and re-activate these Cold war relics, and they are now used largely by Home Guard Batallions.

M109A3GN Self-Propelled Howitzer
Posted Image
The first M109A3GNs to enter service in Norway were A3Gs (German version of the American M109A3) bought from Germany and delivered throughout 1969. Norway then performed minor modifications, giving birth to the A3GN. 126 were bought. Most of these were assigned as mobilization reserve and went to several mobilization storage facilities. The guns remained in their configuration until the 1990s, which saw a few minor improvements. They are an ageing, rusting force, and are slowly being phased out in favour of the ARCHERs.

ARCHER Artillery System
Posted Image
Artillery units of the Kalmar Union use these jointly-developed Swedo-Nordish self-propelled artillery vehicles. They are still comparitively uncommon, however, and are often augmented by older Bofors guns. The heart of the system is a fully automated 155 mm/L52 gun howitzer and a LEMUR Remote controlled weapon station mounted on a 6x6 Volvo dumper chassis. Aside from this, the system consists of an ammunition resupply vehicle, a support vehicle, BONUS Sensor-fuzed Artillery Shell and the Excalibur guided projectile.

SAMLAD STREJK MAKTEN(SSM)
United Strike Forces(Company 17)

The elite SSM are a newly-formed and highly secretive Company of the most elite of Norwegian and Swedish soldiers, mostly former SSG and FSK members. Created with an exclusively Presidential and Unionist mandate, soldiers of the SSM swear a private oath to uphold the Union and its ideals by any means necessary. Their duties, kept highly confidential, include Counter-Terrorism, Hostage Rescue, and Black-listed Operations, which may or may not include First Strike missions and False Flag Operations.

Very little is known about the SSM- indeed, outside the Kalmar Union and certain Intelligence circles, nothing is known about them at all.

Their equipment is all non-standard and amongst the best that money can buy. Despite the name, however, there are some Special Forces units in the Kalmar Union Army and Navy that have similar mandates and maintain a more public face.

These include residual formations from both Norway and Sweden, including the Telemark Batallion and the Marinejaegerkommanden.(MJK)

Kalmar Union Navy(KUFL)

The Kalmar Union Navy is currently an organisation without a great deal of funding or direction. It has a number of hi-tech ships left in the dockyards, unmaintained and uncrewed, and currently operates on a pittance, utilising patrol boats and helicopters primarily for Customs and Naval Rescue. However, grand plans exist to make the KUFL- Kalmaren Unionen Flotten- a formidable naval flotilla, capable of power projection anywhere in the North Sea or the Baltic.

KALMAR UNION AIR FORCE(KUFV)

The Kalmar Union Air Force (Kalmaren Unionen FlygVapnet) is a small, fresh force of pilots equipped with older jets and helicopters, and who are mostly used in a Reconaissance and Inland Rescue capacity at present. However, there are plans to make the KUFV a truly battle-hardened force of ace flyers, and the best way to season them and restore their espirit de corps is to assign them to UN missions and other overseas commitments. Whilst there are no official plans for this yet, preperations have already been undertaken to make this possible for future re-activated Squadrons. At present only one squadron below is at full combat capacity, and is in the air round the clock, with steady shift rotations between pilot rosters to ensure it is ready to defend the suprisingly vulnerable Scandinavian skies at all times.
