Hayastani Jairair King urges Privy Council to 'dissolve' Hamandid buffer zone Karin 19.12.09 - A statement was made today by His Highness the King of Armenia to the Privy Council, in regards to the Hamandid buffer zone north of the Kurdistan prefecture. Calling for the 'dis-dismemberment' and 'removal' of the buffer zone, which has been in place since 1972, as a measure to prevent the movement of the current hostilities between Armenian Army troops and Kurdi insurgents is now the reason of a great deal of debate in the Chamber of Commons and Privy Council. With the buffer zone's importance seemingly dwindling, and the cost to maintain it becoming higher with each year, serious contemplation is being put into the simple removal of the zone and the re-integration of the territories into the Kaputan Prefecture. Hosting nearly 12,000 Armenian troops (more then the actual population of the area), the area is heavily laden with military fortifications, minefields, and razor wire. It is expected that any de-militarization of the area will be accompanied with high costs and a long process of removal of possible hazards. Situated in an extensive river valley, the buffer zone situates the entire border of Armenia (specifically Taurus, Kaputan and Van prefectures) with Kurdistan, preventing unauthorized transit of personnel or supplies. It is a heavily patrolled and holds extensive roadways, all constructed by the Army. Two airfields in use by the Armenian Army Air Force exist within the nearly thirty mile long and five mile wide zone, a centre of operations against the insurgents in the Kurdistan prefecture. With the new approach that is being praised by King Silan, all operations would be based from another post within the prefecture itself - and focus on a more aggressive effort towards the suppression of Mujahideen fighters. Commentary provided by Army Colonel, Tiod Kladeos states that the Army is fervent in it's desire to maintain the buffer zone, claiming that the 'maintenance of a 'safe area' between Armenia proper - and high-tension area's is critical to maintenance of regional stability.' Ironically enough, the commentary is in light of a recent operation undertaken by the Army, in which a sector of Imadiya (the principal city within the Kurdistani prefecture) was freed of Mujahideen occupancy. It is yet unknown what the approach by the Privy Council will be to the suggestion made by His Highness the King, but most analysts speculate that the Chamber of Commons will unilaterally reject any proposal put forth to remove the buffer zone, ingrained as it has become by the years into the very administrative structure of the Kingdom. Some proponents are simply calling for a lessening of restrictions on travel through the zone, specifically for Armenian nationals, but not Kurdistani's. ![]() Reservists in Hamandid (the buffer zone) establishing a barbed wire perimeter. |

Hayastani Jairair Turkic-Armenian agreement reached, autonomous prefecture status to north-east area Yupadi 20.12.09 - Following intense negotiations as were publicized to have taken place in Yupadi, a few kilometer's within the 'contested' Turko-Armenian territory, and some kilometres more from communist occupied Armenia, a final draft of a treaty has been agreed upon by all associated parties. The Armenian committee responsible for drafting and accepting the treaty alongside the Turkic representation have agreed to a final copy which would give the Azerbaijani ethnic majority area's full autonomy. Until the end of 2010, this would be under a transitional government headed by Bagrat Theosdi, at which point the autonomous republic would be allowed full rights to elect their own governor and representative to the Privy Council or Chamber of Commons. This is in light of recent efforts by the Turks in the north-east of the nation, both peacefully and violently to gain increased autonomy within the Kingdom. With the authorization of His Highness the King, the Committee for Turkic Liberty was granted privilege of being able to accept or reject any agreement proposed unilaterally on behalf of the Kingdom. With the withdrawal of Armenian peace-keeping forces having already commenced, it is only expected that the agreement (which will officially come into effect by the end of the year) will only speed up the withdrawal, with Armenian Army units already transversing the only highway near Yupadi out of the region. However, as a result of this agreement, Turks in west Armenia and Kurds in Kurdistani Armenia are now making their own demands for autonomy much more vocal, with representatives of either party urging the Chamber of Commons and Privy Council to establish similar committee's so similar agreements may peacefully be reached. The reaching of a peaceful solution in regards to the north-east does little for the Armenian Army, as it only show-cases another problem which was peacefully solved by the Diplomatic Corps in a month; wherein the Army has tried unsuccessfully to solve the same problem for twenty years. Karin to seek agreement with Greece Karin 20.12.09 - According to sources within the Foreign Ministry, Armenia will attempt to broker a deal with the Hellenic Kingdom in regards to shipping rights through the Hellespont. As of yet, Armenian shipping suffers from the Black Sea prefectures of Trabzon and Armeniacon suffer from the tariffs which they are forced to pay by crossing through the Hellespont and Aegean Sea. In an unprecedented effort, the Foreign Ministry will attempt to put an end to that and come to an agreement with the Hellenic Kingdom to allow Armenian transit with greatly reduced tolls. In addition, it is largely expected that the agreements will include a treaty with a final demarcation of the border between the two Kingdoms, as some area's (particularly the south) are claimed by either party and remain in contention. The move by the Foreign Ministry in response to the King's previous calls for more foreign exposure has been largely hailed by the Chamber of Commons as a 'positive measure' and has received support from the National Liberty Congress and other Liberal parties. The Conservative Union has lodged a protest in the Chamber of Commons against the recent motion, claiming that it is 'in violation'[i/] [to] 'the standards of Armenian policy'. |

Hayastani Jairair Colonel-General Bazecvyan orders 'precautionary' build-up on Hellenic border Kaysari 21.12.09 - Following the recent actions undertaken in the Kingdom of Hellas by revolutionary parties, the Chief of Staff of the Armenian Army ordered the mobilization of certain reserve elements in Alexandretta, Kaysari, and Armeniacon prefectures - swiftly urging subordinates to assign them to undisclosed locations upon the border. According to a press release by Colonel-General Bazecvyan earlier today in Karin, the rapid deployment of troops is a 'pre-cautionary measure', he going on to state that "the deployment is to prevent the spread of revolutionary fervour, and was done with the complete knowledge of the Privy Council and His Highness." Just days ago, Hellas suffered from an Anarchic-Totalitarian revolution by the 'Socialist' party, with attempts made by dissidents to depose of the rightful sovereign monarchy within the nation. His Highness, and the Privy Council have issued a declaration earlier today - in which the opposition of Armenia towards the recent 'formation' of this Hellenic 'People's Republic' has been fervently stated. Critics and analysts have speculated that the recent build-up could be preparation for intervention in the Anatolian region of the Hellenic Kingdom, with the recent press releases by the current reigning regime in the nation stating that a new policy towards the local Turkic populations will be adopted, something which has been greeted with some great jubilation on the part of the Caliphate. It is reasoned by sources such as Ja'iel Yabenzyvan, an employee for an analyst company, that it can be perceived that this may have detrimental effects to the stability in Armenia's own Turkic prefectures, particularly Kaysari and Gaziantra (Gaziantrep) - which still maintain a large Turkic minority and have traditionally done so despite the Reconquest. Yabenzyvan has offered commentary by stating that, "traditionally, neither Greece nor Armenia have varied much in their approach towards the Turks" [...] "in that both nations are very similar, culturally, religiously, and politically." He went on to say [that], "the recent change in this can, and has caused great concern amongst the government." It is perceived by him and many other political commentators that the recent build-up is in actuality an attempt to deter Turkic actions in reaction to the coup in Hellas. Stating in a brief speech in Trabzon before retiring to his dwelling, King Silan commented by affirming that "Armenia's actions are not those of hostility, but those of caution" continuing that "Armenia must remain wary of such developments, as they are quite contrary to the [previous] state of affairs." Of particular irritation to the Armed Forces in the southern border region is the high level of internet exposure in the area, with many citizens, both Turk and Armenian taking photos of passing Army convoys and helicopters, with a large amount of photographs already making their way to popular websites. As yet, no troops have been stationed in urban nor suburban area's - it is unknown though how long that will last, as the precipitation of violence on the Army's part may simply aggravate the Turkic community further. ![]() An Armenian Army convoy rolls down a rural road near Kayseri, photo courtesy of Sa'id Yanaekbayn. Prince Yakaban born in Trabzon, declared Crown Prince Trabzon 21.12.09 - In other news, the first child to King Silan and his Queen Annye was born today in a hospital in downtown Trabzon and promptly declared the Crown Prince by the King. Prior to this, the King's uncle was the rightful successor to the King - but with the birth of a child, the lineage is secure with the child being named Yakaban, after his grandfather. It is puported that there were no complications, and that the child will remain in the Trabzon National Erzyrm Hospital for an additional three days before the King and his wife will return to their home in Trabzon with him. The babe has been declared as healthy, with no deformities. He sports black hair and blue eyes, as is typical of the Royal line. Kurdi-Armenian agreement 'unreachable' claims Abbas Khoydun Sirzyek 21.19.09 - A senior member of the Kurdi Popular Front (KPF) has stated in an interview that it is his belief that an agreement between the KPF and Armenia is 'unreachable' and reputably 'impossible to achieve' [...] that 'total independence for Kurdistan, from Armenia and other powers' [...] 'is the only acknowledgeable result that the KPF can achieve.' Following his declaration, numerous members of the KPF released statements contradictory to the one made by Khoydun, and it is purported that he is to be removed from his position within the KPF. |
