UNIONIST FORCES TO CONTINUE LONG PATROL THROUGHOUT THE WINTER

Posted Image

Sources close to the Interim Government in Stockholm have confirmed that the Union has authorized the extension of service in the field for its 30,000 contracted soldiers and Private millitary contractors for another six months, to continue patrol operations throughout this crucial winter period.

"The Union is still in a very fragile and unstable place right now, and half of the Ministry Buildings are empty or undermanned. We can barely guarantee electricity and water to all our citizens, let alone security. Despite the cost to our weary people, we regret that we must continue to maintain heavy millitary presence throughout the Mountains and Forests that seperate the Norwegian Nordic Republic from the Swedish one, not to mention our crucial border with the unstable Finnish region." insisted a Secretary within the Government, who wished to remain anonmyous.

Although the Union has been established with Force and has precious little legitimacy in the eyes of the International Community, President Halestrom has made stunning progress in winning over the reluctant nordic populace of the Scandinavian Penisula, his daily radio broadcasts and weekly television segments doing much to secure and cement his Public image as the Man to make Scandinavia great again. His support from several powerful Swedish Corporations and the Royal Family of Sweden itself has also secured his political and economic support base, and has allowed him and his Cabinet- the Parliament is still pending election- to raise and make use of this sizeable army, over 80% of which is made up from volunteers formerly members of now defunct national armies and millitas, or those simply keen to be a part of the Great Unification.

Claiming a Mandate from the Nordic People itself, Halestrom has promised to "let actions speak louder than words" and establish a stable, efficient Liberal Democracy across Norway and Sweden, with "long-term" plans to perhaps intergrate Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and "possibly Denmark, if she wishes to join" into a resurrected Kalmar Union. It is hard not to be influenced by Halestrom's grandiose rhetoric and talk of 'Greater times to be had'. After so many years of stagnation, instability and uncertainty, Eirik Halestrom's unique brand of Relentless Optimism and 'Can-do' attitude seems more fitting to an American political stage than a European one, yet it has not failed him so far.

Although the cost of maintaining this Army throughout the winter will almost certainly fall on the already penniless and destitute populace of the fragile Union, it is probable that if anyone can maintain this Union's drive towards integration, stability and prosperity, it is Eirik Halestrom.

LEGAL BATTLE CONTINUES OVER MALMHAUG PROJECTS

Posted Image
Some of the abandoned 'Community Projects' instigated by the now defunct FMP

The First of what promises to be many Court Sessions on the subject of the ex-FMP's 'Civil Works Projects' have opened today, with a team of over 30 Swedish/Norwegian Barristers, Solicitors and Legal Experts working in conjunction with a panel of 3 Senior Judges to sort through thousands of pages of documents dating back up to twenty-five years, in order to sort out a single question: Who Owns these buildings? With the collapse and evapouration of the FMP's ruling body and the dissipation of support for its foundations, the many grandiose building projects undertaken on the FMPs authority have fallen into disuse and decay.

This question is one of pressing importance to the New Administration, as many of the Civil Works Projects are using valuable land and consist of vital materiels, or could, if finished, be of enormous benefit to the Kalmar Union. Amongst these Projects are: 50,000 Communal Homes grouped into 19 different sites labelled "Futuropolis", 100km of Unfinished 8-track Highway, the earthen excavations undertaken for preliminary Dam construction high in the mountains, several unfinished Municipal Buildings in 'New Stockholm', a cleared area within Stockholm designed to serve as a plaza and central hub for FMP Authority, and a Monorail service that was meant to connect Stockholm with other major cities.

These abandoned Projects represent an enormous and in fact destructive investment by the former FMP, and are an unwelcome reminder of the dangers of overreach. But though the FMP is gone, the question of what to do with these projects remains, and there are countless competing claims for ownership of the land and property these Projects represent, with only a few interested Corporations bidding for the right to resume these Projects.

It will likely be at least a year or more before a conclusive anwser is brought to bear on even some of these lingering issues, and untill then, these unfinished and abandoned structures remain a monument to the retro-futuristic folly of the First Malmhaug Provo.

TOMANIAN INVADES FINLAND WITH TENOUS RECOGNITION OF THE UNION

Posted Image
Tomanian Fleet puts to sea

Though the Baltic is subject to its usual winter storms and choppy high seas, and winter has set in with its usual ferocity, the Greater Tomanian Reich has issued the bold and worrisome statement that it intends to invade Southern Finland 'in pursuit of Malmhaug Rebels' on 'behalf of the Kalmar Union'. President Halestrom has issued a public statement insisting that no consultation or authorization was given by the Union to the Tomanian Government for this Invasion.

"Whilst we are gratified for their recognition of our nation, we are concerned about their sudden and unannounced Invasion of Finland. We wish to make it clear to the International Community that we neither condone nor support this invasion, and urge the Tomanian Reich not to punish the finnish people in its commendable enthusiasm to hunt down Malmhaug Rebels."

The Malmhaug Provo, though dissolved and no longer an active governing force in Scandinavia, does infact retain an unknown number of armed, terroristic and criminal encampments throughout the Norwegian Mountains and Finland, and whilst they have been relatively quiet, the Kalmar Union has retained a 30,000 strong Army to maintain its borders for just this purpose.

Nonetheless, it is clear to all concerned that Tomania's vastly disproportionate response to the potential threat of Malmo Insurgency in Finland is, despite the accompanying friendly rhetoric, and a move of grave concern for the Nordic Republics.

STOP PRESSES
It has just been revealed as we go to print that the Continental Union of America has also recognized the Kalmar Union as a legitimate nation-state. This is a truly heartening move, and we hope that their support will aid our nation in these troubled times.

UN ENVOY SENT TO THE AZORES AS FINNISH BORDER FORTIFIED

UN Ambassador Jan Eliasson

New Helicopters arrive for the Kalmar Army

Whilst Winter storms ravage the headlands, 30,000+ brave volunteers man the long, frozen and tenuous border between our joint nations and the hostile territory of Finland. So far General Winter has prevented opportunistic Malmhaug Terrorists and Bandits from menacing the isolated communities in the Norwegian Headlands or attempting to descend through the Swedish Forests. But the New Government is leaving nothing to chance, and has secured a generous loan from Norweb Ltd, the Norwegian Electricity Company which provides 30% of its power, for the purchase of 3 new millitary helicopters, complete with armaments, aswell as an additional 5,000 sets of winter cloaks, thermos flasks and space heaters for the comfort and support of our troops along the Norwegian Border.

The reinforcement of this, the most isolated, frigid and difficult section of the Kalmar's long frontline is a calculated move by President Halestrom, eager to demonstrate that the Union is two nations in one, with Norway to recieve equal attention from the Central Government as Sweden.

"Although Norway is the lesser of the two Nordic Republics in size and economic propensity at present, we are determined to ensure both state's future prosperity is safeguarded, and that Liberty is preserved." announced a spokesperson on behalf of the President earlier yesterday.

In other news, former long-time senior UN Envoy Jan Eliasson has returned to work on behalf of the Kalmar Union, coaxed out of retirement by the offer of a generous salary and appeals to his patriotism. "It has been a long time since I have represented Sweden at the UN, and Im glad to see that the Malmo regime's influence is fading fast. I will be happy to journey to the Azores and represent this great Union."

Jan Eliasson travels to the UN amidst uncertainty in the international community as to the Kalmar Union's diplomatic position. Although recognized by and now represented within both the Continental Union of America and the British Empire, other nations have been cautious about approaching the fragile Union.

It is certain that one of the issues Eliasson will be discussing at the UN will be the ongoing illegal invasion of Finland by the Tomanian Reich, who whilst fighting enemies of the Kalmar Union, are nonetheless also expanding themselves at the behest of ADCON, and to the detriment of the freedom and prosperity of the Finnish People themselves.

CHRISTMAS CASH AS BRITISH BONUS BOOSTS KALMAR INTO THE NEW YEAR

Piles of newly printed Krona as Pounds reinflate economy

Refurbished JAS 39 Gripens from the Swedish Air Force, now proudly baring Kalmarite roundels.

Confirmation of a loan by the British Treasury of over 20 billion pounds into the Kalmar Union has been greeted with cheers and open celebration in the streets by Government and Banking Officials today, with the bulk of the loan confirmed as likely to go into attracting investors and developing the infrastructure of inner cities, which have suffered the worst neglect since the fall of the Provo.

"This is a historic day for the Union. Not only will the funds directly contribute to improving and strengthening the Nordic Republics, but restore confidence in us from international investors abroad." said the Treasurer of the Union, who has been working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Council of Corporations to ensure that this Loan is distributed fairlly for the benefit of the Nation and its Citizens.

However, with every Silver Lining comes a Cloud, and it has been revealed that President Halestrom has requisitioned 2.5 billion pounds from the loan in order to refurbish and reactivate a single squadron of JAS 39 Gripens from the Swedish Air Force, which have been by and large languishing in various warehouses or worse, in the open air, in abandoned airfields around the countryside.

The President has justified this move, citing the increasingly volatile situation in the Baltic, and the alarming possibility of Nuclear War in Central Europe. "My Fellow Scandinavians, far from it for me to be a bringer of bad tidings on Christmas Eve, but we must awaken to the possibility of International Events outpacing us, and our ability to react to them. Tomania's fascistic aggression in Finland is cause enough for concern, but we must not forget that Tomania is part of a larger Axis, an Alliance of Sinister Powers- the ADCON, an Alliance we would be well to do without. Let it be known that the reactivation of this Squadron- named F1- is a defensive precaution, a signal to all that the Kalmar Union is serious about its self-defence, and will not be caught unawares by the gathering of stormclouds to our south and east." The President's Televised Address was broadcast across the nation, and came simultaenous to a press release from the Foreign Ministry confirming that the Kalmar Union will be renewing ties within NATO and aligning itself with all 'liberal constitutional nations' whilst maintaining a state of 'interested wariness' towards all nondemocratic nonliberal nation-states, specifically Tomania and ADCON.

It has been suggested this Loan, the reactivation of F1 and the imminent arrival of Royal Naval vessels in Stockholm are somehow all linked, but no evidence has emerged of any premeditation or correlation in these events.

BITTER WINTER FORCES FROZEN UNION

Icy roads cut off the country

Volunteers supply isolated communities

A record bitter winter threatens to freeze the already fragile Kalmar Union, as the Central Administration struggles to keep its existing infrastructure intact. Ice-sheets have severely curtailed vital maritime commercial shipping and fishing, strangling the Union's one consistent economic income, the support of the Shipping Magnates. Icy roads and howling blizzards have also divided the country, and there are concerns that isolated communities- of which there are many in Norway and Sweden- will be particularly at risk without immediate and continous support.

President Halestrom has, to his credit, called an immediate Emergency Council, and begged Community Councils to deputise volunteer groups at their own collective expense in order to manage the crisis. "Our Country, left bleeding and battered by the cruel ministrations of the insidious Provost, now stands naked before the storm. Let us come together, and truly Unite to build a Better, a more Glorious Scandinavia."

Helicopter runs have begun to be tentatively established, at hideous cost to the Union's dwindling treasury and meagre fuel reserves, to maintain lines of communication with these communities. Icebreakers have also been resurrected from the Navy to assist in opening up the Shipping Lanes.

Concerns have been raised by the more cynical, however, as to wether this desperate effort is more to maintain the loyalty of the isolated Norwegian communities than it is to genuinely alleviate the worst effects of this years winter.

UNION ELECTIONS ANNOUNCED AT LAST, PARTIES DECLARE LEGITIMACY!

Christian Democratic Party has Conference in Oslo

President Halestrom announces candidacy of Unionist Party

After a Week of heady celebrations with the visit of the British Monarch and her Imperial British Taskforce, a week also noted as the record Cold snap came to a slow end, The Announcement today by the Union Administration that the First pan-national Elections for the Kalmar Union would be occurring in April have left none in doubt as to the Ambitious Mandate set down by the Unionists. Whilst a Constitutional Council continues to debate over the finer points of meshing Norway and Sweden's respective traditions of law and politics, President Halestrom has already paved the way, announcing that his current administration and Cabinet will run for legitimate election as the Unionist Party, and has encourage other fledgling political parties who embrace the dream of the Union to do the same.
"I believe in the right of the People to choose their own government, to express through democracy the glorious liberalism that has made our corner of the globe legendary for its tolerance, liberty and prosperity."

With the elections comes also the formation of necessary and difficult government administrative wings, including the long awaited Internal Revenues Bureau and the Coastal Excises and Customs Agency. All of which will be recruiting thousands of new employees, many of whom are new to their roles, and have little experience with such an undertaking. Fears of Corruption are great, but Halestrom has taken it in his stride, and assured all that these mechanisms of revenue-collection will function efficiently. "It is why I ask for election, where before I have ruled without democratic mandate. It is one thing to ask for donations and support from the people in the formation of a Government, it is quite another to demand it. As a body that holds a monopoly of force over most of Scandinavia, it is imperative that we secure the People's assent in this matter."

First to claim the right of Opposition is the reformed Christian Democratic Party, growing in popularity in Norway, who insist that, if a Union is to be effective, the rights of each Nordic Republic must be maintained. "This is a Union of two previously democratic countries. Two states equal in legitimacy. I see no reason why we should allow Sweden to dominate as senior partner." said CDP Presidential candidate, Dagfinn Høybråten, a noted conservative and advocate of Norwegian state rights. The CDP has convened in Oslo, a pointed rebuttal to the Union's use of Stockholm as a Capital.

A third 'bloc' is also slowly forming, as dozens of impromptu Trade Unions and Worker's Coalitions seek to convene to form a Labour Alliance, which has as yet not selected a Presidential Candidate, and continues to be in talks. A Conference to settle the matter is scheduled for mid-February, and it is uncertain if this Left-Wing Bloc will be organized enough in time to contest the Union's first Election.

In other news, the Queen's Fleet is scheduled to depart from Stockholm early tomorrow morning, and will continue its tour of the Baltic as per schedule. The gifts brought by the British Empire have all been unloaded, and the Kalmar Navy has re-mobilized a 'Rescue' Wing of brand-new helicopters for service in the Straits and the Baltic. It is believed that, after the elections, the Navy and the Army will recieve equal priority of Defence funds for re-activation under a Unionist Administration.

UPROAR OVER UN HUMAN RIGHTS DEBATE!

UN General Assembly meeting gets heated

President attends Brazil Charity Fundraiser Ball

A UN General Assembly meeting has caused widespread uproar as the Islamic Caliphate refused to endorse the Universal Human Rights Agreement, sources in Geneva say. Details are sketchy, but its clear that heated words were soon exchanged, and the UN GenSec attempted to restore order but damningly overstepped the bounds of his actual authority in order to do so. Although now adjourned, the Meeting's failure is unquestionably damning of the so-far fairly solid administration of the current, Swedish-born UN GenSec.

"His stance is obvious political correctness gone mad. Tolerance of Islamofascism is in violation of the UN's own laws, and i wouldn't be suprised if there's an Inquiry." said one source. "The Ukrainians and the Arabs are completely at fault here. All they do is yell and bicker and try to bully the International Community into endorsing their ridiculous outdated ideologies." said another source close to the GenSec's Office.

Whatever the truth of the matter, UN Assembly minutes being classified, it is clear that there has been a divide over a crucial issue. What are the Limits of International Law? Are all Humans entitled to equal things? If not, why not? These are weighty matters that the next Assembly convention will almost certainly have to address.

Kalmar Union representative Jan Eliasson has chosen not to comment on the issue, noting only that he voted in favour of the Resolution, and hopes it will not be scuppered by this controversy.

PRESIDENTIAL BALL FOR BRAZIL AID?

As UN Task Force 141 continues its slow, sluggish efforts to establish itself as a credible security force in Brazil, President Halestrom attended a Charity fundraiser Ball yesterday evening, in order to raise funds for aid programmes designed to alleviate some of the worst conditions of urban and rural poverty experienced by Brazillians. The President himself made a public donation of $100,000 USD towards the cause, and implored others to give generously. "Our battle for Prosperity is great, but theirs is a Battle for Survival. Given this opportunity, we cannot ignore our duty to our fellow human beings." Halestrom has said on record he is in favour of the UDHR.

Notably absent from the Ball was the leader of the CDP, however, who stated in an official press release that whilst he was not opposed to charity, he did not intend to disrespect the people by making a public show of it.

Ongoing Uproar in the UN as radical Charter is proposed

Delivering its promise almost a full month earlier than expected, the Kalmar Union is holding its First ever United Elections, and record-high Voter turnouts have already been recorded nationwide, as old systems of voting have been jury-rigged together to unify the Norwegian and Swedish counts. "Its an imperfect, rushed job, but we are confident that, over the next week, everybody will have their chance to have their say." Due to poor registry keeping over these past few months, however, it is almost certain that there will be more than a few people turned away. "It is apalling that legitimate citizens can be rejected from their most important right because they immigrated to the country during the Transitional Phase, or lost their papers during the Unrest." said Mohammed al-Gharib, a Swedish Arabic expat who was furious at being turned away from the Polling Booths.

Despite these upsets, however, with International Observer Committees being run ragged trying to keep up, the Christian Democrat Party has managed to launch a last-minute Leafleting Campaign in several major towns and cities throughout Bothnia and Telemark, two crucial 'swing' provinces believed to be most uncertain about the Union.

The Labour Alliance has announced its leader, Reidar Lyvald, but their bid for the Election seems to have taken second-place to continuing support for Strike activity and demands for equalisation. "Our paramount concern is always for the People." said Reidar Lyvald, a former member of the Norwegian Labour Party, when asked about it today.

The President remains confident about the prospect of Victory, however. "I am confident the People will reward my faith in the Union with their own, and I assure you, if they do choose to allow us to continue in our Great Work, the days of living on Foreign handouts and Loans will swiftly end. A Liberal, sovereign union beholden to noone is our goal."

RADICAL CHARTER REVISIONS IN THE UN?

What began as a flare-up over the Universal Decleration of Human Rights has transformed into a wide-ranging debate concerning a key Resolution- UNGA Resolution 007- which proposes nothing less than radical reform of the UN Charter itself, and wether to empower the United Nations Security Council with permanent vetoes on an individual basis, assign Guardianship powers, or retain the current, alliance-based system. Ideas and rhetoric are flowing fast and has been ongoing for the last few days, but it is certain that Change is coming to this key body. According to our sources within the UN, it seems likely that a consensus will be reached soon, particularly on the controversial measure of balancing UNSC permancy with the responsibility of "Guardianship" and maintaining regional stability.

These radical concepts have come at the suggestion of Jan Eliasson, a veteran UN Envoy, and a close friend of Eirik Halestrom. However, they have proved popular, and representatives from both the British Empire and the Ukraine have taken up the mantle of reforming International Security at its core.

Whilst the final draft is likely still some way away, it is clear that the historic UN cannot continue as it is on its present course, and that whatever comes of these impassioned discussions, will alter International politics fundamentally forever.

LANDSLIDE VICTORY FOR THE UNIONISTS!
Posted Image
Eirik Halestrom has official photographic portrait commissioned as 1st President of the KUNR

Death toll rises in Brazil

After a week of frenzied voting, the decisive result has come back, to little suprise amongst even the most optimistic of opposition supporters, as Eirik Halestrom was elected with a crushing majority as 1st President of the Kalmar Union of Nordic Republics. Whilst Independent Observers are still processing data and will release their official report in a month's time, there has been little sign of corrupt practices, and despite the less than conventional mandate, the Election has vindicated Halestrom's vision, and has brought not only the Unionists to official, popular power, but also shown that the majority endorse the Kalmar Union itself. Sweden and Norway have come together, and chosen this man to Lead the way.

Whilst the official Swearing in is set for early May, Eirik Halestrom has waived the on-paper formality of being addressed and treated as President-Elect, due to being the first encumbent of the newly created post of Union President, not to be confused with his previous joint-roles as President of Norway and Sweden respectively. "I thank the people of this Great Nation for rewarding our hard work and effort with their unilateral trust and support. I promise you, that the next five years are going to be unprecedented for our peoples. Prosperity and Change like never before are our Manifesto, and I will personally settle for nothing less than the Liberal Freedom that was promised by our forefathers." began Halestrom in his Victory speech.

Dagfinn Hoybraten, leader of the CDP, has conceded defeat with magnaminity, and promised that the CDP will work much harder at the next election to contest the result. "We congratulate President Halestrom on his victory, and look forward to working closely with his Party in the new Riksdag soon." Despite the crushing victory, the CDP managed to claim a small number of seats within the Parliament, with the Labour Alliance suprisingly claiming a larger number, despite its poorer resources and less organisation.

"Our gains in this new Riksdag show how, despite our lack of preperation, the proletariat were more than ready to partiicpate in this grand new project, and have shown their faith in us as their representatives to ensure the Worker has a say." said Reidar Lysvold, leader of the Labour Alliance.

With Democracy assured, the first critical move of the Kalmar Union is to implement its Internal Revenue Bureau, which it hopes to recieve expert guidance and advice on from many international economists and former American IRS employees. "With the Mandate of the People, it is vital that we also faciliate the gathering of taxes from the people, in order to serve their interests, and end our reliance on Corporate handouts and foreign loan money alone." stated the recently appointed Revenues Minister.

With the KUNR busy establishing new federal institutions heavily inspired by America's, it is suprising that the Union is also equally busy abroad, with Vice Foreign Minister Valter Nielsson, President Halestrom's cousin, noted as being in London to attend an important diplomatic summit.

CASUALTIES MOUNT IN UN MANDATE 141

Kalmar casualties have risen to 7 killed and 16 injured as sporadic violence continues to ignite in the wake of efforts by UN Task Force 141 to pacify Brazil. However, the arrival of Peruvian reinforcements and continuing Iberian commitment have eased the burdens considerably, and the Task Force now operates at maximum efficency in Urban and Central Brazil, although the Brazillian Army continues its brutal campaign in the North to crush the last of the Favelas, pushing them into the Amazon Basin. It is unknown at this time how many Brazillian soldiers have been killed or wounded, but it is very likely to be significantly higher than current UN fatalities. Given the KUNR's emphasis on establishing itself as a solid Federal Nation-State, however, questions have been raised about the prominence of General Sunde leading the Mission, and the presence of Kalmarite troops amongst the Mission.

"We have few enough loyal, skilled, veteran soldiers defending our borders, why must so many risk their life and limbs abroad?" is the question being raised by prominent CDP Representatives. "We implore President Halestrom to reconsider his ambitious international agenda, and bring the boys back home."

No comment has been issued at this time about KU involvement in Brazil, and it remains to be seen wether the newly-elected government will reconsider its involvement in the mandate. Were it to withdraw, however, it would be a severe blow to the morale of the Task Force, and prompt others to prematurely withdraw.

BUSINESS BOOMS AS GOVERNMENT GROWS

New Federal Tax and Revenue Administration Building

Since winning the election, the Unionist Government has been working overdrive to establish the structures and institutions needed to create a truly Federal framework between the Nordic Republics of Norway and Sweden. Building on the pre-existing structures of the Customs Union and the Nordic Union of Ministers, the new Federal Kalmar Union has worked the hardest to institute its most important instutition first, namely, the Federal Tax and Revenue Administration(or FÖRBUNDS-SKATTFÖRVALTNING,FSF for short) which has taken over the previous Swedish Tax Agency and is working to assimilate the Norwegian Customs and Revenue Office. Headquartered in Solna, this Agency is crucial to the Federal Unionist project, delivering as it will a source of income derived directly from the people, and not from corporate handouts.

But implementing a new system of taxation is not without its risks, and Halestrom has authorized the deployment of a company of King's Livgardet to safeguard this crucial building. "There are many unscrupulous and unpatriotic people abroad, who would seek to undermine the integrity of our great nation-state." said President Halestrom omniously on the deployment. "It is with regret that the new FSF must spend its first year under armed guard, and its agents go abroad with protection." Despite these controversial measures, the FSF is expected to begin its first operative rounds in May, and is expected to expand into Customs and Revenue by August.

At the same time, there is lingering controversy over the people that Halestrom has selected to fill his Cabinet and crucial ministerial positions, almost all of whom are former Swedish politicians or those involved in the International Corporate and Law scene, having experience either working for the UN or with international corporations abroad. Accusations of Corportocracy and Oligarchy have been tossed around by certain tabloids, but such accusations remain largely groundless.

PHILANTHROPY GIVES WAY TO MERGERS FOR TOP DOGS

A Historic Deal with US Defence contractors and Shipyards has re-established the primarcy of Swedish-based Aerospace corporation Saab AB, breaking the years-long stagnation of what was once a thriving Scandinavian economy. Corporate activity was undermined for the last two years in particular, as company after company voted to cripple themselves significantly in order to provide philanthropic support for the emerging Kalmar Union, which remains heavily in debt both to Scandinavian and International Corporate bodies.

However, this dependency was broken only yesterday, as Saab AB signed a $20 billion defence contract agreement, in which it agreed to provide stealth corvette technology for Federal US use, in exchange for use of sophisticated United States Shipyards in Norfolk and Hampton Roads to construct an undisclosed number of the vessels for use by the Kalmar Navy and possibly also the Federal United States Navy. This agreement brings a mix of anger from stagnating Shipyard Unions and interest from equally neglected Unionist Armed Forces, who are hoping that Saab AB will also direct attention to restoring and replenishing the Kalmar Air Force with badly needed parts and new fighter-craft.

"This Business Deal represents more than an expansion into a crucial American Defensive market, lucrative as this expansion is." said a spokesperson for Saab AB. "It also represents an end to an era of economic uncertainty in Scandinavian history, an end to companies voting to put the public interest above all other concerns, healthy or not, for that corporation. The Business of Business has resumed."

IKEA, the furniture giant, and NCC, the Nordic Construction Company, are rumoured also to be working on an equally historic and grandiose deal with another, undisclosed foreign power, which is set to expand Scandinavian, and, by extension, Kalmarite presence in foreign markets. Both companies have been quick to assure disgruntled Unions, however, that there will be plenty of opportunities for Kalmarite citizens, both here and abroad, in facilitating these deals, should they go through.

"We cannot disclose details at this time, but we assure our shareholders it will be obscenely profitable." said the CEO of NCC.

What this seeming Boom in Business Deals will bring remains to be seen, but it is clear that the Long Winter is over, and it is Springtime again in Scandinavia.

CONTROVERSY OVER CONTINUING CORPORATISM

Posted Image

Whilst the Unionist Government continues to struggle with setting up, co-opting and tying together Scandinavian Infrastructure, all eyes have turned to the booming business scene, and criticism has been particularly fierce of the recent NCC-Ikea Deal with the Ukrainian Soviet Government, which has seen an unprecedented investment in Soviet state industries by International Businesses. Concern about jobs being lost to the USSR has seen an ironic upheaval amongst the Trade Unions, who accuse the Companies of seeking quick profits abroad rather than safeguarding their investments in the fragile Kalmar Union.

"This Deal is a complex but satisfying arrangement between our two companies and the Ukrainian state governments involved. We assure all concerned that this deal is not related to any ongoing political relations between the Union and the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic, and is entirely a private affair. We encourage employment of Swedes and Norwegians as Facilitators, mediators, and handlers of affairs our side. This is a monumental deal and we believe it will enrich both countries." said a spokesperson for the NCC-Ikea merger.

This NCC-Ikea deal will likely encourage other powerful corporate bodies within the Union to seek quick profit abroad, after the near-ruinous expense of funding the creation of the Kalmar Union. The generous tax-breaks that the Halestrom Administration has offered, controversial in of themselves, are only a short-term salve for the financial wounds many companies are still nursing after the Long Winter.

"Seeking business abroad will not in any way compromise our preference for Scandinavian markets. Rather, these deals will foster essential trade relations with countries abroad, and put more disposable income in the pocket of the Kalmarite consumer."said Johan Bergenson, Minister of Revenue, justifying the government's encouragement of lassez-faire private enterprise.

"In fact, the President is considering a grand and ambitious project to foster closer international trading links within the Northern European hemisphere, something that will greatly enrich the Kalmar Union and enhance our already formidable international prestige." What this project is, there has been much speculation, but only time will tell how this will bare on the growing itch amongst Scandinavian Companies to seek investments abroad.
