On the Border of Obthalas : The Earth shakes as the beast stomps. It is a monster of colossal proportions, a living, breathing weapon of war. It storms through the Plains of Chaos, attracting a following of abominations that hope to feed on the leftovers of the monster's rampage. The creature, the Tarrasque, resembles creatures created at the birth of the world, the terrible lizards as they were known. The Tarrasque heads towards the border to the elven lands, intending to feast upon its residents. With that it charges. OOC: Sorry bout that Ukraine, I have edited this to be more suitable for your post. Old habits die hard. Edited by Flawless Cowboy, Jul 22 2009, 11:33 AM.

ooc: I ignore most of your post';s content because I never gave you the right to role-play on my behalf. Sorry. The Kalthalassian forest, or more particularly its frontier against the Mutants' lands, was riddled with fortifications. This ancient forests with trees larger and grown beyond imagination, where the Thalassian druidic magic and the Tuurathi hellfires had been combined to grow this natural barrier to unimaginable proportions, housed carefully constructed and unique fortifications, citadel-cities and nomadic bands of elves. The march itself was uninhabited and overgrown. Although the two Kalthalassian provinces carried large armies for nominally offensive purposes, everyone "knew" the theoretical difficulty of breaching the Plains of Chaos beyond, and using conventional means alone the Turathi had made sure to effectively fortify the land using immense natural and unnatural barriers, and making use of the maze-like Kalthalassian forests, in which you could not navigate without the aid of the Elves. The attack came half-surprising and half-expected. Surprising because it was an alien beast of colossal proportions, expected because it came from the usual direction. The damage it caused in its wake was devastating; trees were smashed and shoved aside, and they would have to be regrown as soon as the monster left, lest the Turathi felt they were risking their security. The advance outposts hid and let the monster slip past them, sending signal to the fortifications further deep inside the woods. What was this monster, however? The Fair Folk which guarded these lands did not expose its presence. This monster was too big and too powerful for mere archers to defeat, so they simply stayed away and behind it, harassing the lesser, foolish beasts that had gotten through believing it had suddenly began safe to follow this beast. The elves knew their woods better than anyone; scavengers and abominations didn't, and outflanking and outperforming them was a simple task even for the simplest elven platoon. The monster, however, kept advancing. It had to move very deep in the forest to find the actual local fort; itself was one with the trees, nothing protruding above the tree-tops and perfectly integrated to the very tight forest around it, where the beast's mobility was severely limited. Here there were no puny ranger platoons; there were things much more afoul, what Bael Turath was famous for. Simple infantry and light cavalry manned the garrison, but they weren't even cannon fodder; at the beast's wake they just "scattered" in the woods with immensely organised manners, following drills for dragon attacks that they had experienced in the past. The real power of the Turathi military was its infernal mages. "Mages" was misleading, for it wasn't magic but hellfire they were using, and a direct connection to the God of the Nine Hells. But such details were meaningless; for Septarch Irianna Zolfura, an Imperial Princess and among the high-ranking commanders of this Legion none the less, it was easy to annihilate this entire forest in seconds if she wanted it. But this beast was... interesting, it was powerful and unique. She needed to capture and examine it. Uttering forbidden words from forgotten lore, the hidden caster began binding the beast's movement with incredible magical chains, using the same magic that allowed Turath to control its demonic legions and powerful devils. As the beast rampaged against the fixed, empty fortifications, the mages of the unit took care to begin turning the very forest against it, with trees and roots beginning to aid Irianna's magics. The beast was impressive, though; magical attacks would just bounce off, showing that puny magic missiles and fireballs were not going to work and injure it. The binds needed strengthening, or else it could escape. Irianna wanted it alive and well, in order to examine it, engineer it and reproduce it much like the Empire's artificers combined magic and clockwork devices to produce terrifying but wonderful contraptions. The battle took an hour, with little more than material losses on the advanced Turathi garrison's side. The elven platoons, by comparison, had actual deaths, for they had to fend off the "actual invasion" behind that all. Irianna was aware, but should her binds have worked, she would be teleporting with this beast in the empire's most feared laboratories, to engineer it anew and create an army of these things. If she could make it, she would become this Legion's commander at last... No, she might even become the Regent of Kalthalas, with enough power to threaten the Infernal Empress herself! |

The Tarrasque began to notice its movements slowing against its will, and this angered it even more, causing it to uproot several more trees. Of course this made one illithid quite upset, the illithid sorcerer Marakquien, who was currently following his beast whilst flying and having cast a greater invisibility spell earlier. He detected the thoughts of the mage, her thoughts frightened him. He thought,"Mass producing this monstrosity? Hundreds of uncontrollable monsters? She must be insane." With that he used mind blast upon her, and prepared to cast a ray of enfeeblement should that fail. |

OOC: Sorry for the delay, life's hectic. The sudden magical attack caught Irianna off-guard. But of course! This beast had to have a controller of some sort! The question, however, was from where. She resulted in Greater Invisibility, vanishing from the eyes of the enemy and delaying the bonding spells she was casting on the Tarrasque; her next choice would be True Seeing, eventually revealing the true and uninterrupted form of things as they really were. The beast looked just as ugly as before -as it should be- but up in the sky she saw the terrifying monstrosity; an illithid. "Immobilise the beast! Summon the CI. Cohort!" Irianna ordered as she aimed for the illithid with a Lightning Bolt. The attention around the Tarrasque shifted; some of the magi worked tougher on the trees and nature, while others formed a circle and drew blood, beginning to form a summoning circle. In the meanwhile, the Tiefling took to the air to summon reinforcements as some of the mages proceeded to begin harassingthe Illithid and its companion from further away, secure positions, as troops tried to focus on the gradual influx of the beasts that were following. Irianna looked behind her as she went to a safer location. It was time for the big guns; she didn't know what that thing was, but it was nothing a Hellish cohort couldn't handle. |

The bolt barely missed Marakquien, and he started wishing he had a beholder with him to dispel the magic of the enemy mages. He realised that he was severly outnumbered, and would likely be killed by the mages in a minute or so without help. In an instant he knew what he had to do to give himself a chance of survival, and cast dispel magic on the bonds of the Tarrsque. |

The Turathi mages panicked as they realised what the Illithid was up to. With little coordination among them they continued firing bolts aggressively, while a couple tried to counter-spell the upcoming Dispel. The results were mixed; although the Dispel was countered, it wasn't countered sufficiently to bring down many of the lesser bonds. As a result, the Tarrasque began breaking free of its magical prison, forcing the Turathi mages to seek cover from its terrible reach. In the meanwhile, Irianna had began her summoning ritual, which would bring the specially-designated CI. Cohort from the Nine Hells to Turathi service. It was a devil unit unlike others; not something permanently preserved on this plane, not something you would see every day outside the Turathi capital. From afar she could see the Tarrasque breaking free; she needed to hurry. |

Marakquien was hit with several of the bolts, though he evaded many of the bolts because of all the confusion. However, now that most of the mages had fled from the Tarrasque breaking free, he was able to take some time to recover. Moving a short distance away, he drank a potion of healing, and the critical injuries he recieved were healed, though the more minor ones remained. Now he prepared another dispel magic, this time from a greater distance, after all, he did not wish to be anywhere near the Tarrasque when it was free.
