I might be interested in playing a single-star system civilisation of armed pacifists. Where would you best recommend it is situated? |

Hmm... I am guess either somewhere between Feds and Slaar, Feds and Talos, or Bugs and Slaar. |

We're glad to have you on board, pal! Dragon, I've included your requested changes. I've marked Devious Tyrant and Lurking Mastermind as "Nth'Ch Exclusion Zones" for reference, too. |

Nice, nuke. One recomendation is to add the species/race names to the empires (easier to look at the map and know who's who that way.) |

I have a request, if you can handle it: a node map with the following specifications: *Same star systems and relative positions and border, but no more hex grid. *Instead, systems are connected by straight lines to nearby star systems. *Stars should be connected directly to no more than 3 other stars, preferably less most of the time. *No line connecting two stars should be too long (say, no more than 3 or 4 hex spaces). *Systems within an empire are connected to each other, more often than systems are connected between two players, so that there are 'roads' and choke points. Basically this will work better for the war system. The strategic phase will involve moving very simple fleet markers along these nodes. When opposing fleets meet in a system, a battle happens, and then a different map (or no map, maybe) is used. |

Problem with that is there are now several different types of FTL travel. Nodes may be efficient for one type but not others. Warp and the Nth'ch Jump system are very different types of FTL and neither would utilize these conduits. |

The problem with that is then the game is just moving pieces around on a flat 2 dimensional plain and it turns into Axis and Allies IN SPACE with no tactical depth or fun. |

The way we used to do it, eh? I actually liked it better that way, since it gave strategy to everyone's movements, and made systems more strategic. The rationale that could be used, Dragon, is that those connections represent the standard shipping/travel lanes between star systems. The two warp systems that I've seen are the simple "Trek-style" warp drives that let a ship go anywhere at any speed under warp 10, and my recently introduced mass relay system (which is still coupled with a Trek-style warp system, since each individual ship is still warp capable). All these lanes therefore constrict space travel through specific systems, and add strategy to our systems. It means that large hubs (like the Arcturus System in the Federation) will have heavy strategic importance, as opposed to any system just being an open target. I can take care of re-drawing the map. It'll give me the opportunity to add in some new elements to it that I have thus far been unable to implement, and give it a new and better feel. The hard part will be keeping the stars in the same spots, but I can manage. I'll at least get a proposal map going. We'll see how we like it, then go from there. |

I am fine with the lined map, even though it screws with some of my future plans, but its nothing really major or anything that I really care about much. |

An update: the node map is about 50% complete. I can tell you already it will look infinitely better than the old node map we used (back around when Slaar battleships were invading Federation worlds). I've learned how to add nebula effects to space maps, so I'm going through and adding some nebulae to the map. It's taking longer than I expected, though, since the map is 3860 x 2450 (same size as the original map - this is so that I can keep everyone's star systems in the same location without distorting them), which means every time I do complete a step the entire map has to re-render. So, I'm thinking 24-48 hours until the completed map is up. But I've got to say, I already like it a hell of a lot better than anything I've cranked out thus far. If you'd like to help me out, here's something you can do: take a look at your star systems (and ONLY your systems), and give me a list of which systems you want connected to each other. Don't worry about how your systems connect to ones outside your borders. What you give me won't necessarily be exactly what ends up on the map, but it will give me an idea of what you want when it comes to system connections. You don't need to do this (you can leave the connections up to me, or I can change them later), but it would help me out. |

Given Arzhamas' irrelevance as a multi-system empire, I shall only state that it's most likely they would avoid many links due to their inherent paranoia. As such, please only link them to the nearest systems. |
