Name: Alpac-Henotep (uses many aliases. Most recently Alex)

Age: Unknown due to long periods of hibernation. Is still a mortal though.

Affiliation: The Mortal Plain

Basic Skills: Alpec has a a firm command of Blood Magic. Being a member of the Ammuit Mage Clan, he was taught to use blood as a power source for all his magic, be it his own blood or that of a sacrifice. His own blood is cursed by Apep, which makes it powerful, but chaotic and dangerous to use.

Through the Blackblade, he can act as a Medium, able to communicate with the souls of the dead who have not passed on and call upon spirits of the Earth and Air. He can help the dead complete unfinished business and acquire information from spirits, usually at some sort of cost. The Blackblade’s connection to the underworld allows him to channel it’s power and reanimated long dead flesh.

He is familiar with many dark rituals and “black magic” that are unpopular in the modern civilized world. Most of his spellwork revolves around communicating with or reanimating the dead however he does not deal with Demons.

He is a very quick study. He has eidetic memory which is rare for a person of his time period. His memory served him well, allowing him to memorize rituals, symbols and iconography used in the Ammuit Clan as well as other religions and magic traditions.

His curse and closeness to death have a tendency to draw “dark” creatures to him and allow him a measure of control over them. Ravens, rats, moths and other carrion insects are attracted to him and partially controlled by his will.

Place of Residence: Nomadic. He moves where he thinks he can best accomplish his goal.

Tools of Trade:

—— Bone Knife - A knife made from bone, it is enchanted and used for rituals and blood letting. It is stronger than steel, absorbs life force from blood and is coated in a necrotic poison harmful to all manner of creature, especially mortals but also it is notably potent against Angels. There is an antidote made from plants that can stop the poison if administered before death. It makes a find melee weapon as well, should the need arise.

—— The Blackblade

The Black Blades were ancient even when Alpec was a young man thousands of years ago. The legend is that Anubis, son of Ra and Guardian of the dead was entrusted with the embalmed remains of the dead god Osiris. Anubis, took several pieces of these remains and fashioned them into swords and granted these swords to several of his priests, thus forming the original Ammuit Magi. He charged these sword bearers with destroying a Apep worshiping cult that was bringing the God of Chaos great power that may one day lead to the defeat of Ra and plunge the world into forever darkness.

The Blackblade is just a hilt, adorned with the Eye of Horus. It is made out of something that looks like bone wrapped in a very dark leather. From the hilt, a sword deploys, unfolding through some as of yet unknown magical means. The sword has command over the Underworld. A soul may not leave the body of any mortal it is stabbed into until the blade is withdrawn. The sword may command any body which it kills to rise and act on behalf of its user. Injuries caused by the blade are more likely to be infected and take much longer to heal.

A side effect of carrying the blade is that it’s user is always connected to the Underworld. Through the blade, thoughts and voices of the recently dead can be heard and dangerous creatures from the underworld are drawn to it’s power like a beacon.

Personality: Alpec is a man of very few words other than those required to perform his magic. When he does engage in conversation he is intelligent, forward and forthcoming. He's not particularly loyal to anyone except his clan. He is highly adaptive, but he pines for the old days when the Ammuit were at their height.

Angels and Demons are more a curiosity to him. Their magic may be a means to an end for him and he intends to find out but he holds no real regard for either side.

History: Before the age of man, the earth was inhabited by spirits and beings of incredible power, created by the builders with the job of working the natural processes of the world. These spirits formed families and alliances and warred with one another.

When Human Beings came into the world, the age of Gods and Spirits faded. They guided men for a time, but their power waned as man’s power rose. Several of these gods raged against the end of their time and rebelled against creation. Apep, the Serpent God of Chaos was one such Deity. He sought to destroy Ra, the Sun God and plunge the world into eternal darkness.

The Ammuit was an ancient order of men, formed by the God Anubis, to fight Apep’s mortal followers and cultists. While the mage clans like the Vizjerei, Taan and Zann Esu were concerned with increasing their own power, the Ammuit were concerned only with ensuring Apep never achieved his goal of defeating Ra. In order to fulfill their mission, Anubis provided the Ammuit with an unknown number of swords forged from pieces of the dead god Osiris after he had been slain by Set. These Blackblades gave the Ammuit powers over death and the ability to command forces of the Underworld. Each blade was passed down from a Master Ammuit to his apprentice after his retirement or death.

Alpec-Henotep was one such apprentice. He was a quick study and learned rapidly and he found that he had a natural talent for magic rituals, memorizing the Book of the Dead and all its sacred spells in a very short time. He learned of Blood Magic and became obsessed with its possibilities. He was part of the final assault on the Apep Cult’s temple. The Ammuit descended on the cultists, killing their priests, tearing down their statues and raising their dead to trample across the worshipers. It was the final battle and Apep’s servants fought to their last breath. Apep himself manifested within his statue in the temple and many Ammuit were killed, including Alpec’s master. When the dust settled, the majority of Ammuit were either dead or wounded but Apep’s cult was completely decimated. The God of Chaos raged at this defeat, using the last of his remaining power to curse the Ammuit for all time.

The souls of the Ammuit were cursed to never enter the afterlife but allowing their bodies to age and wither normally. Their blood (see: fluids) was cursed, making it a necrotic poison which would kill anyone they got close to, denying them lasting relationships.

Cursed and with their mission complete, the few remaining Ammuit, which included Alpec now, came together and decided that they would seal away themselves and the last vestiges of Apep’s power along with them. The entombed themselves within a temple to Anubis. As the youngest and newest of them, they thought the curse might affect Alpec less than the others so he was chosen to be the one to actually seal them up.

Once the Ammuit were no more, Alpec traveled the world. He learned of the Vizjerei summoning demons and thought that if he could somehow harness demon or angel power he might be able to break the curse but the other Mage clans learned how terrible an idea it was to summon demons and the practice was quickly outlawed and kept a very close secret by the Vizjerei. Now that demons knew of the mortal realm though, their appearances happened every so often but Alpec could not find one of suitable rank or power for his needs.

As he aged he realized that his body would not last long enough to see the demonic power he thought he needed to break the curse of Apep. So using a blood sacrifice, he concocted a spell that would place him in hibernation for hundreds of years at a time. By killing one person and using their blood he prolonged the life of his body at the expense of being in an enchanted slumber.

Over thousands of years he’d go through long periods of sleep divided by brief periods of activity, researching the world, learning languages, religions, and any information about demons and angels that was available. The last time he was awake was the late 1770s. He was active in the Caribbean and learned of Vodun. He traveled North America and investigated various Native American traditions. He avoided taking sides in the American Revolutionary War though he did fight alongside Brigadier General Francis Marion during the Battle of Black Mingo. The effects on those wounded by the Blackblade put a fear into the British Loyalists in the area which encouraged some to switch sides and sign on with Marion.

Before the battle was through, Alpec took one of the loyalists as his blood sacrifice which he used to put himself back into slumber. Next time he awoke, Demon had claimed the earth and their power spread across the globe. Angels had entered the mortal world to fight their demonic enemies. The world was primed and ready for him and he knew the answers he sought were out there. If a demon or angel could lift the curse on him and his brethren, he would find out.
