Rin woke up in a groggy hazy. She felt…. cold and distant. She moved and felt resistance. What was that grasping her arm? No not grasping. She opened her eyes and she was chained to a wall in a stone room. Water was leaking in from above, though she only saw a dim light coming in from whatever was up there. A wooden door with a port hole was across from her. She was still in Uriel’s borrowed clothes, though they were dirty and dried with clotted blood. Some of it hers others demons from the day of the attack. How long had she been out? She didn’t see her blade nearby, and then she remembered Muramasa had attacked her! How had he gotten behind her? She growled at his arrogance thinking that these chains would hold her. She was stronger than most living men. She walked forward and pulled hard. Suddenly she got a zap coursing through her whole body, and she cried out in agony against it before pulling back close to the wall. It throbbed, a lasting effect. Her body was not healing the damage in any way. Someone moved to open the door. Muramasa in his human guise strolled in. Muramasa: Ah at last you are awake. I see you’ve found your new restraints and tested them already. Saves me the trouble of explaining the pain associated with them. It’s funny the irony of them. They’re used by heaven’s host to hold demons, and apparently you are corrupted enough to warrant its effects. You my dear are as fascinating as I remember. Rin spit at Muramasa who caught it with his hand, and creepily licked it. “Freak,” she said judging the distance between her and Muramasa. He wasn’t close enough, if she could goad him she’d be able to wrap the chain around him, and if it hurt her it’d hurt him. Maybe she wouldn’t mind going out that way to kill him. “Why did you not kill me?” Muramasa chuckled as if he knew some inside joke. He waved to the door motioning someone to come in. It was a young man of japanese descent wearing two Muramasa blades on his back. One of which was hers, the other a third one she hadn’t seen. Where had Maria’s blade go? Muramasa: Kill her. The boy came forward and Rin moved to block with the chains on the wall but pain shot through her when she grasped them fully and she barely heard Muramasa bark another order. She felt a pain on her neck and noticed the blade had stopped just a moment before piercing her flesh. “If you're going to kill me just get it fucking over with,” said Rin shouting at Muramasa and the boy. ??: (You haven’t changed.) She was only half surprised he spoke japanese but then she realized he had the same sort of accent. (Who the hell are you? Another person Muramasa ripped through time?) His eyes were dull looking down at her. He hadn’t removed her own blade from her skin. She could feel even with this brief touch that it was screaming at him to kill her. Muramasa: Don’t let me get in the way of this touching moment. To long lost siblings, meeting after hundreds of years apart. Rin looked confused at Muramasa and then took a good look at the boy in the dim light. (Yahiko?) Clapping from the side made her look at Muramasa once more as he motioned for the boy to remove the blade. Muramasa: She finally gets the extent of it. I was curious as to whether he would have any hesitation to kill you after all this time, but he’s come a long way since you last knew him Rin. She looked back to the emotion void boy that he claimed was her brother. It was him, she could see it though she had last seen him around the age of seven or eight. Before the Oni Mercy had taken her over. (What are you doing working for the man who made the blades that killed our family!!!) She screamed but he turned his back walking for the door. Muramasa only smiled shaking his head. Yahiko: (You don’t remember do you…. You killed mother. You were too weak to resist the demons, and I have become strong in your absent. I’ve also transcended aging. Muramasa’s blade were forged for the strong, they do not belong to someone like you. I will collect them all that all nine have reappeared, and in the end I will be the warrior Muramasa was looking for. You however…. I don’t care what happens to you. My sister died a long time ago.) With that he stepped out, and Rin shrieked at him before turning her focus to Muramasa. He shook his head once more as if pitying her. He started for the door. “Don’t you pity me, I’ll kill you for what you did to my brother!” yelled Rin. At this Muramasa halted and came forward. He walked and Rin tried right then, through her hatred she felt the pain again but started a punch past Muramasa’s head. He would dodge giving her the chance to wrap it around his throat. A hand caught hers and another slammed her against the wall choking her. Muramasa: Make no mistake girl. Your life is still very much in my hands, I’ve chosen to keep you alive because the drive it will give your brother to find and kill the other wielders. I have high hopes for him. Don’t make me regret my decision girl. You’ve already failed your test Rin Kurai, and now it is your brother’s chance to prove he is not as weak as his blood. You are very much your father’s girl, he was just as weak as you. She felt like she was about to black out by the time he reached the end of his talking and finally let her go. She coughed and fell to the ground hard as he let her drop unassisted. He walked forth from the room leaving Rin curling up in a ball in a cell. No closer to her ultimate goal, no idea where she was, and her world flipped upside down. She began to cry for the first time in years... Edited by Rin Kurai, Aug 9 2015, 01:18 PM.

Rin next woke up to someone whistling, same room, same dullness. She couldn't even tell if it was another time of day. In the room this time was a demon, undisguised, four eyes and a horrible looking set of teeth. When it finally spoke it seemed to almost hiss its words. Demon: You're awake finally. Let us start, with introductions. I am called Hensess, and I am here at the request of Muramasa to test the limits of your body and perhaps your mind. A faint chill went through her at the demon talking. She felt something affecting her head, as if his voice was coming from far away. He produced the a Muramasa blade and began to walk towards her. The one Maria had been wielding. This was her chance she'd steal it and kill the demon. Something was wrong however he offered it out to her with sharp rows of teeth smiling. What was he playing? She moved forward carefully and snatched the blade fast. She moved to slash her bonds and she broke them through the pain. She moved forward towards the demon but as she slashed, but he disappeared into smoke. She looked around the room but he was no where to be found. After about ten seconds she decided to just leave but as she turned for the door there was no door. She felt a stab from behind, a sharp knive protruding from her chest. She gasped turning and slashing. Hansess disappeared to black fog once more, laughing. Rin dropped to her knees cursing. Hansess: Drink deep, the blade will heal you. It can save you, I hit your carotid artery. You won't survive much longer... "Screw you...." said Rin drawing the Muramasa's power into her. She began to glow red her black hair starting to life and gain whip like. Suddenly she could see through the man's illusions. She proceeded forward but he conjured a dagger to block, and a second one slashed at her breasts as she jumped back, receiving a cut across the front. It healed almost instantly. "I'm going to enjoy gutting you." Hansess' teethy smile twitched just for a moment, and suddenly more demons poured into the room. He barked them to attack, and Rin went recklessly forward. _______________________________________________________________ Back in reality Hansess' hands were pressed to the side of Rin's head on a table and a Muramasa blade placed on top of her body. He went to work slowly working his mind's illusion to force Rin to imagine combat and putting stress on her body. Slowly her body was reacting in kind to the blade. Muramasa stood watching in the other side of the room. Muramasa: She takes naturally to the blade, even her brother cannot claim to be as attuned with the blade as she is. Pity her emotional state is in a fixed state like her father. Hansess: It is my experience Master Muramasa that nothing is in a fixed state when it comes to humans. You just need the right push. Whether that is traumatic events like torture, love, lust, pain, power, or even hatred. If you push enough eventually you can get the result. Muramasa: Well that is why I hired you to attempt to try and dissuade Rin from her current condition. Meanwhile Yahiko is hunting for the other blades. Her appearance during this time was unexpected. I had expected Mercy to send her much further. He walked over to Rin on the table brushing her hair to the side of her face as she made a face of grim determination. The girl was interesting and infuriating at the same time. Mercy had gifted her with a few boons that Muramasa hadn't bestowed. She had given Rin an advantage, and yet to this day he did not know why Mercy had done so. Hansess: She is strong willed, this will take awhile. You may return to your duties. I would not hold you from them. Muramasa nodded walking towards the exit to the room and then turned back. Muramasa: She has a particular weakness for family. Use it against her, and it may help. With that Muramasa headed through the door. He walked through the empty castle's corridors. He finally came to an open courtyard where Yahiko was practicing against demons. They stopped once they realized Muramasa had entered and bowed to him. Muramasa: Do not let me hinder your training. Continue. Yahiko: As you wish. They began to fight once more going through the motions of a fight, Yahiko showing no mercy even in sparing. What separated these two? Yahiko: You should kill her. I'll do it if you allow me too. There's no point in trying to convert you to her side. You are responsible for what happened to our family. Muramasa looked at him amused that he was taking an interest in his sister. He hadn't even said so many sentence together in the last five years. Muramasa: Let me worry about your sister, I won't turn her so much as change her. She'll becomes what she hunts. |

Hensess had pushed Rin in just about every creative way he could think of but the girl was still resistant. It had become a personal challenge to push her in the direction Muramasa wanted. He had used family, friends, strangers, and even Muramasa’s taunting to fuel negative emotions that humans became strong with. Rin’s body had transformed multiple times when faced with stress, even reacting to wounds simulated by brain activity. He kept running up against a mental barrier in her mind which he was unsure of if she was aware. The more he prodded at it the more he convinced whatever was holding her back was coming from within there. He gave her a restful bout of mental scenarios as he wanted her guard to go down to slip in. Hensess found a crack and slipped on through, as he did her body on the table began to transform more towards a demon. Hensess found himself walking in a dark landscape, screams pouring out. He began to smell fire, and soon he walked into a burning room, the smell of blood, and fire mixed. A man carried a woman out of the room, but he noticed a peculiar oddity. Not only was she carrying a newborn child but she had long tendril like hair. She looked at him over his shoulder and suddenly he saw her face was demonic and a roar shoved him out of Rin’s head. Rin’s hair had wrapped around Hensess, and was beginning to strangle him. He lifted his hand to grab the sword away from her but her hair wrapped around his arms, and Rin’s eyes opened blazing red with an almost inner fire. Hensess choked out one word. Hensess: O...ni….. Rin fell back asleep turning back to normal, and a few minutes later woke up with her sword set vertically along her body blade resting between her breasts. Grabbing it quickly she sat up ready to attack whatever phantom came at her this time, her mind had been played with multiple times and this wasn’t the first illusion that had started this way. She looked down and saw Hensess dead on the floor his neck almost caved in like some large monster had squeezed it with the strength of a gorilla. “That’s a first,” she whispered as she dropped to the ground. Her knees buckled under her weight. Felt like she hadn’t moved in forever. Joints hurt as she worked them into motion heading for the door. This time the illusion let her go out the door but she was still weary. Had she seen something before she woken up? Never mind she needed to get out of here, and she made her way quietly finding an open courtyard. She felt a shadow fall upon her, and she spun. Her block was awkward and it send her stumbling back. It was her brother Yahiko. Again, this time she was going to beat him. She squared up into a stance rather roughly, she still felt the effects of whatever hinderance this illusion had placed on her. (Illusions only work so long, foul demon. No matter how many times I must face them I won’t change my mind!) she yelled at the figment, but he casually blocked her blow aside. He moved different than the illusion and she was thrown off by this dramatic change in style. Yahiko: (Who you calling an illusion? Your slow and weak because they haven’t been feeding you right. Your muscles weak from atrophy. This will hardly be a fight.) Rin looked at him puzzled, what he said made sense and there was something about this that felt different. She came at him anyways three swings he blocked effortlessly, and with her unable to put her full speed or power behind them. On the fourth she found his blade already pushing against her left breast right where the heart is. Yahiko: (You’re dead. Or you would be.) She slashed his sword aside twisting the blade from defensive strike to a forward attack but he dodged placing his sword right at her neck. Yahiko: (And headless.) He sighed sheathing his Muramasa blade and walking a few steps away. Yahiko: (This is not how I wanted to kill you. Barely able to hold a sword, let alone fight. I should just kill you now but I want you to see the fruits of my labors. How long I have trained just for that moment where you see that I am a better swordsmen and thrust my sword into you.) (I… this is real? Yahiko, what I did to mother it wasn’t me, I was…) she started to explain only just now coming to terms with her being in reality. Yahiko: (Possessed yes I know. That does not excuse you from what you did however, nor will it heal my nonexistent heart. You were possessed by a jealous Oni who sought to kill our mother, She was the one that drove the samurai to fight our father. Our village died because of her influence on that samurai and in your body you hunted down me and mother. Mercy, an Oni demon who had tried to capture our father’s favor. Rejected she sought to kill both him and her sister.) (I don’t know…. I don’t…. remember any of that,) said Rin trying to remember something. Anything from that time but it was a blank. She remembered being trapped behind eyes but her mind must have blanked it out. Forgotten about them, forgotten about her brother. She then caught onto something. (Wait… our mother was Oni?) Yahiko laughed long and hard all of a sudden, but it was hollow. Yahiko: (You finally realized that? Why do you think the blade doesn’t affect you as easily? Why warriors in the past went berserk just touching one of these blades? Did you never think to ask? Are you so special? Your will incorruptible?) Rin felt lopsided. She was half demon? That would explain a few things. That is why the priestesses were not able to cure her, because he was permanently tainted? She was born damned. Yahiko was part demon too? (Then we are…) asked Rin trying to grasp at anything reasonable in this unbelievable situation. Yahiko shakes his head coming forward towards his sister, she backs up defensively but Yahiko gives no sign of aggression and embraces her. Yahiko: (You at least come to understand our curse. We will settle this but I have decided we will be the last ones to fight. You want the blades destroyed then you will have to defeat me, but we want almost the same thing. We’ll hunt the blades together, then we can settle things.) Rin accepted the hug her head against his chest. He offered comfort, and her will to fight went away. She couldn’t believe she hadn’t known all this time. She still wanted to destroy the blades, but her hopes of redemption were crushed. She’d always be tainted this way no matter what. What was the point? Rin hugged Yahiko back tightly. Yahiko grinned evilly patting her on the head gently. Yahiko: (Muramasa has found another blade, lets go destroy it sister.) Rin looked up at him and nodded. His evil smirk turned into a more confident and reassuring one as he looks down at her. (That’s all I care about, what happens afterwards…. we can settle then,) said Rin. They disappeared quickly as Yahiko opened a portal. Rin wasn’t surprised, he would be able to do things she could with all of his extra time to train. Muramasa from a tower looked down smiling walking back to his desk and pouring a glass of wine. He held it up as if to toast. Muramasa: To long lost siblings, and the warrior that will emerge…. |
