Midday: overcast, gloomy, and, surprisingly, or gratefully, lacking any excitement. An hour before daybreak, Gray left the Human's last safe haven, heading back out into the depths of the demon infested lands. He knew there were still humans trying to survive out here, only because they had no choice to, or didn't want to, join the rest of the humans.

This was where Gray usually came in. For some money, food, or just a place to sleep for a night. In exchange, he would slay the demons that plagued the villages, which would keep the villagers safe for at least a small while.

To bad that wouldn't work in this area: he had traveled around here not to long ago, and all the old villages, as far as he knew, were destroyed by the demons which ran around here. He could always be wrong, as the last time Gray was here was some months ago.

He thought back to the last time he was in this area, but was brought out by a loud demon roar, which wasn't too far off the trail. It was far enough for him to just keep on walking, but he heard enough to know that it was a roar of challenge or an attack. Despite himself, Gray walked off the trail, heading towards whatever made that sound, but very quietly so as to remain hidden if he stumbled too close.

Several demons were out and about a small squad of them. They were some of the ones that had been persuing the escapees from the Black City. The demons had lost the human and his friends after they made thier way into a cave, even their scents had vanished. Most of them were very confused by the sudden disappearance of their pray.

One of the goatmen was commanding the grunts who were being forced into medial labor for the time being. They seemed to be building some sort of look out using the trees they had cut down recently. One of the goatmen stopped and sniffed the air almost like a dog. He pointed and Grunts ran forward with several hell hounds on a leash. They let them go the hell hounds runnin out to go and find the prey.

The human they had smelled wasn't too far away and his soul was apparently ripe for the taking.

Gray heard things before he saw anything. Even before they came into view, he smelled the sick smell of death float on the breeze. Slowly, he drew his longsword and shield, then proceeded to take up position behind a large, long dead tree which was easily large enough to hide his form.

Less than a minute later, the noises grew sharply, and the first of the hounds rushed pass his position, fallowing his trail. Gray judged when the last one would run past him by the sounds, and when it seemed likely, moved from behind the tree and into its path.

There were two, which was unexpected. One would have been a quieter kill, but two meant that he had to move fast. He absorbed one of the surprised hounds charge on his shield, using its weight to twist Gray's body and sword, which impacted the second one, soaring through with no effort. When the sword cleared its body, Gray threw it at the hound he knocked over, impacting it in the chest. He rushed to it, ripped his sword from its body, and beheaded the creature.

The confrontation was noisy, that much was obvious, so Gray had to move fast. He rushed off his path, running back into the woods, and hid in a tree. This one, though, was alive, and had a small cavern under its roots. He positioned himself by the only entrance, ready to attack the first thing that wandered in to try and find him.

When the hell hounds didn't immediately return with the prey the goatmen were of course suspicious. "What is taking them" one of them said crossing his arms, he looked at the grunts and motioned for them to go and find the hell hounds with a nod.

The grunts moved through the forest where they saw the dead Hell hound. They began to inspect it, they were shocked when they saw that the second one had been killed as well. Obviously they weren't dealing the average human, a few moments later two Goatmen walked over inspecting the scene as well.

Pointing the Goatmen ordered the grunts to fan out and check the entire area. The grunts quickly got to their jobs assigned to them. They begin to check all the trees to make sure the human they were seeking hadn't escaped.

Gray was quiet as he began to hear sounds again, this time quieter. He assumed they weren't hounds, and actual sentient creatures, so he thought of how he would change up his game. He didn't know who he was up against yet, so he had to be very careful, less he make a fault. He knew just how to do just that.

He slowly stowed his sword and shield, and drew his bow. He felt for a second, and found one of the arrow's he was looking for. It had a whistling thrown around it, so it was much like a loud, decoy arrow that he could use to lay traps or find out what he was up against.

Slowly, Gray moved to look outside the tree he was in. When he saw no one immediately around his area, he leaned out fully, drawing his string, and letting it loose. With a loud, sharp whistle as it flew through the air, the arrow flew through a bush and he heard it impact into the side of a tree, as the noise cut out instantly.

Quickly, he turned out of the tree, crouch running around it, and caught a branch just above his head, and pulled himself up and into the tree, up until he was about half way up and had a good view of the area, without being seen. If he was seen or heard, he grabbed his bow and readied two arrows, just in case. If he was safe, then he would do what his original plan called for and watched the area where his arrow flew and landed.

The grunts continued their search for whoever it was that killed their hell hounds. That was when they saw the arrow zip past them. It was strange they instantly went for it however, one of the grunts grabbed the thing examining it. They were trying to figure out where it had come from. "Nowhere?" one of them said in a rather squeaky like voice.

A goatman walked up over to them and snatched the arrow out of their hands "Someone is here" it said in a low growl. "Prepare yourselves for battle" the goatman ordered, the grunts pulled their weapons out. "No one is to escape, destroy everything" the goatman ordered.

At last, Gray found the targets he was looking for: Grunts under a few goatmen. It was those goatmen who were his targets, as without them, the rest would crumble under his attacks. He readied an arrow, and let it loose, heading for the head of one of the goatmen. From this height, it wouldn't have been too hard to hit. As soon as the arrow was released, he notched his second one, and let it go on the only other goatman he saw, before he made his way down the tree.

He made movement away from the group again, moving to work his way around for a quick flank to make it seem as if there were more people moving around than just one. He didn't see if his arrow's, either of them, met their target, but they knew there was someone, how many, no, but that they were being attacked. Gray, with his attacks, made this a mental game as well as physical one.

One of the goatman was in fact hit with an arrow and went down before the others could even tell what happened The second goatman quickly moved back to avoid the other arrow. "Archer!" One of the grunts screamed out in a shrill cry the demons instinctively spread apart not to make themselves a group target, "Prepare a counter spray" the other goatman said as the grunts lined up and fired arrows in the direction they were taking fire from.

"Move back out of the forest we must regroup" the goatman ordered the grunts, he wanted them to quickly get to the rest of the demons in order to put up a better defense, as of right now there was no telling how many people were out there.

Gray took notice of what was being planned, as he was able to observe his opponents were doing, and where they were going. He stopped his movement for a second, and let loose a third arrow towards one of the grunts. He was gone as soon as he fired it, changing position again, using the wind and the environment to his advantage.

About 30 meters from where he loosened his third arrow, he took one of his whistling ones, and fired it into the brush away from him, and the goatmen and grunts, just to make them chase after it, if they were stupid enough.

If not, then Gray had another plan, which would be less effective, but still quite deadly.

The grunt dropped dead from when the arrow hit him. The others continued to move about thier position not looking at their dead comrade. They were more focused on who would be killed next. The arrow that made noise made the grunts want to move but the goatmen held them back "Two of you check" he ordered "The rest spread out continue with the strategy" he ordered in an angered voice.

The demons were becoming paranoid by whoever it was they were fighting.
