The Northern Crisis

Macklein enters the board room far beneath the streets of a New Slaybacksburgh suburb, as he enters, he sees his Minister of Peace and War, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Economics, Minister of Energy, and Minister of Miscellaneous Affairs.
He sits.

"Sir, you've read the headlines from Schaedel?", queries the Minister of Peace and War.

"Yes." He replies

"And you've read the intelligence report brought forth by the SSS?"

"Once again...yes..."

"Then what do you want to do sir?"

At that moment, the Minister of Foreign Affairs butts in, "I believe we need to open talks with Schaedel!"

"Fool! Have you not seen that Baricia is now involved too!?" yells the Minister of Peace and War from across the table.

"They believe our forces are weak though! That little lie about the Bishop killing some marines in the Post-Gazette convinced them so! How...pathetic of them, hah." reminds the Minister of Miscellaneous Affairs.

"Yes, I have! That's exactly why we can't cause any conflict! Even if our forces have superior training, we'd still be outnumbered! We mustn't allow this to escalate! General Jehu is already bogged down enough by the rebels in the region!"

"Screw Jehu! That wuss has done little for me!" the Chancellor retorts from his large chair at the end of the table.

Silence.

"Sir, if I may direct your attention to the screens. As you can see here, Schaedel DOES have a substantial amount of oil and coal, if we were..."

"We can't! That'd be devastating to the entire region!" exclaimed the Minister of Economics.

"I concur." Agreed the Minister of Energy.

Bickering ensues. Eventually, Chancellor Macklein silences everybody. Afterwards, the Minister of Foreign Affairs offers some advice;

"Sir, I advise we invite the leaders of Baricia and Schaedel to a conference, maybe we can end this without any bloodshed?"

Macklein stares at his pen, he then agrees to the recommendation.

Later that night, the Minister of Foreign Affairs pens up an invitation.

"To Whom It May Concern,

Good day National Neighbors, I write this letter to you not as an enemy of yours, but as an ally of peace. I am here to persuade you to attend a national conference between out national leaders, in order to avoid a war in the north, please, if possible, travel to New Slaybacksburgh! We must hold peace true in this region!

Thank you,
Vladimir Slavakovich
The Minister of Foreign Affairs
New Slaybackia"

TO: Vladimir Slavakovich, Minister of Foreign Affairs, New Slaybackia
FROM: Gunther Stolle, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Schaedel

The Most High Kaiser and the Most Lawful Kanzler cannot leave Schaedel at this time, due to necessary involvement in internal affairs. However, both have agreed to send Tomasz Rabinowicz, Imperial Security Adviser, Personal Adjutant to the Kaiser, High Adjutant to the Kanzler. He shall serve the Demokratischreich well, and hopefully provide a peaceful solution to our little problem. The following message is still given: Our ultimatum is still on the table, and it is best to adhere to it by the end of our little talk.

Gunther Stolle
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Demokratischreich Schaedel

Macklein and Slavakovich enter the room with O'Park already seated at the table.

"Where's the other one?" Macklein queries to Slavakovich.

"Mr. Rabinowicz is on his way from the Airport I believe." replies Slavakovich.

"... Rabinowicz...? Is that....a....Jewish name?" Macklein was seething.

"I believe so sir."

Macklein snaps his pen in half at hearing that name. He picks up his copy of The God Delusion and begins reading while he waits for Rabinowicz to enter.

*On the Northern Front*

"Sir! Word from command says we must stay our ground on Schaedel's border!"

Jehu turned from his laptop and looked at the young lieutenant.

"Stay? Who says?" Jehu was confused.

"Chancellor Macklein sir!"

"Macklein!? Does he not know that we are on the brink of war? If we stay here we could cause an international incident! Why does he want us here?!"

"To stop Schaedel from 'thehteningg ze Riepuhbliik' and to 'kaetsch ze Lutheran Bishop'"

"Schaedel poses no threat so long as we don't threaten them, meanwhile, why must we chase after the Bishop?! Why must Macklein push his Atheistic agenda on us?! He's going to run us into the ground!!"

"What do you want to do sir?"

Jehu contemplates the situation.

"Move west, let us move from the border"

"*Sigh* Very well sir."

As Tomasz walked down the hall towards the conference room, he noted some of the pointed stares aimed his direction. A sense of one trying to push their superiority over him. Good thing they hadn't sent Tomas instead. He'd be trying to cause them to bluster to the point of nonsense instead of negotiate, he thought to himself. The Kaiser had originally wanted to go himself, but was persuaded otherwise. Although, when Rabinowicz's name had come up among possible delegates, the Kaiser had jumped on the idea. Who best to send to your enemy then, not only some untermensch Jew, but an even more untermensch Low Schaedelian Jew at that, he thought again. Rabinowicz collected himself for the mental trial ahead, and entered the room.

"Good day, gentlemen. Is the meeting about to begin?" he spoke with a guttural accent that betrayed his Yiddish upbringing.

Macklein looked towards the door, and lowered his book and grabbed the sturdiest metal pen he could find so he had something to wring when speaking to the Jew.

"Yes...you're late." Macklein retorted, "...typical Jew." he mentioned under his breath.

Slavakovich, at hearing this, jumped to his feet to guide Rabinowicz to his seat while avoiding the Chancellor if possible.

"So, Mr. Rabinowicz, you represent Schaedel, correct? Why is it that your military insists on training near the unstable northern region of Slaybackia?" Slavakovich asked to the Jew.

Macklein was glaring angrily at him this entire time. He had also not received the word that Jehu had withdrawn the Army from the region.

Rabinowicz's eyes narrowed momentarily. "A Schaedelian is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to." he quipped back. Rabinowicz thought he caught an additional comment relating to his religion. Well, same to you, schmuck, he thought, then turned his attention to the Slaybackian, Slavakovitch.

"Yes, I represent the Demokratischreich, and its people. As for your question about our training near your, ah, 'unstable' region, it is simply a matter of variety. The Reichswehr needs to keep new recruits and even hardened veterans on the line to be ready for any environment that encompases Schaedel, not merely the frigid, forested north. We cannot allow our soldiers to become complacent and used to the usual. Our western border provides a rare, warmer climate, and thus it was chosen specifically for that, its climate. Now, perhaps a few reporters and, ah, Herr Macklein may think different, but thats the truth. And I shall remind again what was given before this conference. The ultimatum we gave still stands."

OOC: Sorry, accidently misspelled your guy's name. Sorry about that.

Macklein, hearing about this ultimatum once more jumped to his feet, blinded by rage he threw the heavy metal pen at Rabinowicz.

"YOU DIRTY JEW!! WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME! ME! WHAT TO DO!? YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT Y..." Macklein had burst. Several guards had stepped closer to him.

Slavakovich ran over and put his hands on the Chancellor's shoulders and sat him down.

"Please excuse the Chancellor, he's been...unstable recently." Slavakovich apologized to Rabinowicz.

"UNSTABLE?! ME!? ARE YOU WORKING WITH THE JEW?!" Macklein was still furious.

"Anyway, Mr. O'Park, what do you have to say? And Mr. Rabinowicz, why must your military be so close to a region that is so hostile to the Macklein Administration? Couldn't you, ya know...like...train in simulators? Or at least stay further from the region?"

"THEY'RE THERE TO DESTABALIZE THE REGION! THAT'S WHY! THEIR DIRTY JEWISH ARMY AND THEIR DIRTY JEWS!" once again Macklein was not under control.

Slavakovich quickly glared at the Chancellor, as he seethed.

The short, yet full-bodied, Asian-Barician spoke with the honeyed Celtic accent of a Barician, managing to completely ignore the Chancellor,

"Well, sir, the Imperium was not consulted by Schaedel about their ultimatum to the Slaybackians, I do believe that the Schaedelian exercises were valid. They were well on their side of the border, with little to no likelihood of violating Slaybackia's sovereign territory, as far as I and my government are aware. Your movement to the border, in light of the idea Schaedel was or is preparing for invasion, was justifiable. However, now that Schaedel's actions are explained. While the government is undecided about what to do if Schaedel decides to declare the ultimatum ignored and acts, the Imperium, I guarantee you, will side with Schaedel if it is attacked offensively.

Rabinowicz nodded in agreement with O'Park, after narrowly avoiding that pen. What a verkakte mamzer, he thought, and fought not to respond. Do what Tomas would do. Let the idiot rant and show what a blundering fool he is, he thought again. He'd let the Slaybackian respond before going into a full response for the training exercise.

Slavakovich resettled his glasses on his face and nodded, "I understand that."

A large, powerful looking man wearing a military getup came in at that moment and saw the Chancellor in a fit of rage, so he walked over to Slavakovich and told him of Jehu withdrawing from the region.

Slavakoivch looked puzzled for a moment, but then scribbled the news on a piece of paper and slipped it over to the Chancellor and told O'Park and Rabinowicz the news.

Macklein, at seeing the news, must have blewn a circuit, his eyes became fixated on Rabinowicz.

"You...You....YOU DIRTY FILTHY JEW!! YOU DID THIS!" Macklein grabbed a laptop and flung it at Rabinowicz from across the table, it ended up hitting the ambassador and hit the pane glass window and cracked it.

Slavakovich, at seeing that the Chancellor had truly gone mad, attempted to get to the door to help Rabinowicz and O'Park out, but at that moment Macklein saw him and ordered the guards, "Do NOT let ANY of them out! That's an ORDER!".

Macklein then exited the room, furious, shaking, and very frizzled.

*Meanwhile with Jehu*

"General Jehu? We got word that...your uncle, the Pastor at St. Michael's has been found dead, and the church completely destroyed."

Jehu, knowing very well that Macklein had done this, was sorrowful.

"I see, and of the rest of my family?"

"Your uncle's wife and children are missing, the FEB reports show that they raided their house earlier that night."

"*Sigh* I see, plot a course for New Slaybacksburgh, and I want the navy to travel there too if possible."

"Sir?"

"Yes, New Slaybacksburgh. Now. That's an order."

"You realize, of course, you are now holding, against his will, the first in line to the Chancellery in a nation over ten times the size of New Slaybackia?", O'Park said, with an eerie calmness about him.

Slavakovich, being the only man in the room of Slaybackian descent looked ad O'Park and replied: "It is not my will that the Chancellor does this! He has gone mad with rage! Only time will tell what he does next. I have never seen him like this."

Slavakovich then began pacing back and forth thinking of a way to escape the room 20 floors up from the streets of New Slaybacksburgh.

Rabinowicz did his best to deflect the laptop. As it hit, he cursed in a mix of Yiddish and Low Schaedelian. Then his eyes widened as that tinpot dictator screamed at the guards to hold them. He waited for Macklein to leave the room, before going into action. While O'Park made his announcement, and Slavakovitch paced, he pulled out a small cell-phone. When dealing with crackpot fascists, always be prepared, he thought. He began thumbing in the number that would give him a direct-line to a meeting between the Kaiser, the Kanzler, and several military figures. Looking up towards the guards, he remarked, "Any of you mamzers even try to take this phone or touch me, things will get very biblical around here, fast."

Slavakovich saw the phone that Rabinowicz pulled out of his pocket.

"No! The entire town has cell-phone jammers! And even if you could get a signal, Macklein would know!"

The guards also had noticed the phone and approached Rabinowicz one of them spoke in High Schaedelian (German):

"Stellen Sie das Telefon weg Herr Rabinowicz, oder Sie werden es bedauern."

The other guard grabbed his baton from his belt and extended it towards Rabinowicz.

Slavakovich held his breath.

Meanwhile, in the spire office of the Government Building in New Slaybacksburgh, the Chancellor looked towards the river, he had a puzzled look on his face. One of his assistants approached him.

"What is that?"

"Well, Chancellor, I believe that looks like one of our J-17 Class battleships coming up the river."

"Why is it here!? Isn't the only one of those supposed to be heading north?!"

"I don't know why it is here sir."

"Who is in command of it?"

The assistant pulled out a PDA and began punching words in, he then looked at the Chancellor and replied, "General Jehu, sir."

At hearing Jehu's name, Macklein grew frustrated.

"I thought he was on the Schaedelian border!"

"Apparently not sir."

The battleship, and the several ships that accompanied it came closer up the river until it was at the divide of the 3 rivers, it then anchored there and awaited orders.

Meanwhile, out front of the Government Office a military Sedan pulled up and General Jehu exited, he walked past the guards and got in the elevator with his 4 personal guards, he then exited on the 20th floor and walked past the conference room, from inside the room Slavakovich heard Jehu asking the guards where the Chancellor was.

Jehu entered the spire office and across the room and began asking Macklein questions;

"Why? Why must the Church be persecuted? What do you want to bring from this? They are only helping humanity Wilhelm!"

"Why?! Because! Haven't you seen the damage that religion has done throughout the centuries?! Haven't you seen what those filthy Jews have started?! It's all because of that Jehu! All because of that!"

"That doesn't call for the deaths of thousands of innocents and the persecution of the majority of our citizens!" In the distance, Jehu spotted black helicopters approaching the city, pefect he thought.

"Haven't you seen it?! There IS NO GOD! If there was, how would I be in power? If there was, why would the Republicans have run New Slaybackia into the ground?! If there was, then why are there those *!#$&^ Jews?!"

"Wilhelm, oh, how far you have fallen. Before, I just wanted to stay silent, I saw the horrible things you were doing, I saw how you were persecuting the moral, the ethical, the religious, I saw our population drop under your regime, but when you murder my family, I will NOT just sit around and let you get away with it!"

Jehu then turned and pulled out a PDA, he then put it away and took cover nearby.

"What?! I'VE lost it? No, Jehu, YOU have lost it, you're clinging to a plant! What a fo..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Macklein saw the main guns on the Battleship turn towards the city.

"What is this?! Are you questioning my power Jehu?!"

A moment later, Macklein heard a loud blast, and the top of the FEB building across the street was in flames, sirens were going off and many windows downtown were broken, the entire windowed glass office was exposed to the elements.

It was happening.
