The list had been narrowed down to four nations in the end, The Lateral Republic, Aksoem, Eyygui, Schadel, and Golencia. The first stop, The Lateral Republic, loomed 4,000 feet below the jet as it gently descended towards a runway near the capital city of the Republic. What a nutcase nation, thought Charles to himself. So many decades of isolation and all of a sudden they elect some new guy who wants to go out and conquer the world. Don't they know that emerging as a player on the global stage takes time and patience. Meh, I'm meeting with him anyway aren't I? Might as well find out what this 'Republic' has in store for the world...

As the plane landed the tires screeched and the large jet taxied to a halt on the tarmac. The pristine white door emblazoned with the coat of arms of the Barons Alliance slid open and a stairway was attached to the opening. King Charles descended the stairway onto the tarmac, waved at reporters and photographers, gave a short meaningless statement and was whisked away to the meeting place by three unmarked black SUV's.

Kefilwe Makena peered outside of his quarters. His third-story view allowed his to see for miles across town. He saw three black SUV's approaching.

He turned around and began preparing the bar. He enjoyed casual visits, even though a visit from Charles was a serious matter. He never enjoyed baking under a spotlight of pressure and anxiety, as most politicians did. In the meeting room were two loveseats, several marvelous paintings of reknowned artists, a antique rug, and a cozy maple bar, filled with expensive and exquisite liquors and spirits. The room, wrapped with a calm aura, was ideal for casual visits.

Makena was ready to see King Charles. He was fluent in many languages, especially English, living up to his words that he would pursue the world. He filed downstairs to greet the King.

His butlers opened the door to find King Charles V Bigod walking towards the house. In a flutter of arms, the two leaders embraced heartily, like two long lost brothers reunited. Outside the gates, photographers snapped pictures of the two for their daily gazettes and gossip posts. After exchanging their greetings, the two disappeared inside and headed for Makena's indoor elevator. On the way up to the room, the two began small talk.

"King Charles, I am so glad you are here! How are things? Your family?"

"I hope you have enjoyed what the Republic has to offer so far. There is much more to see, and to discuss. Come!"

The elevator was standard: mellow lighting, glass walls, the works, except for the Ipod carrier near the entrance. It played the beginning of NOFX's "Stickin' In My Eye", in Arabic, of course.

"Ahh, I have always been a fan of punk rock and pop rock. It seems so fats and aggresive, it just seems to entice my ears."

The doors opened to the meeting room, and Makena allowed Charles out first. Charles seemed like a sturdy man at heart, yet a little conceited. Makena would not judge and led him into the room.

"Well then, I believe this should stick to causal politics. I see no need to be overanxious about anything. Would you like something to drink, Charles? I have several native and imported beers, wines, and liquors at hand, as well as soda for my fellow prohibitionists. Hahaha!"

OOC
Sorry if it's a lot to digest, Philli, but I did'nt want to dabble with 5 posts about small talk in the elevator. Sjust give your perspective on Charles' entrance.

The SUV's came to a halt in front of the Dictators Mansion. He was met at the entrance by Makena and they exchanged the standard formalities, then left the reporters and slander-artists behind to move towards the elevator. Charles noticed the iPod first and then the curious Arabic version of a song he actually liked, Maybe this guy isn't so bad after all... he thought to himself.

"I and my family are quite well, thank you. My mother seems obsessed with me marrying but I feel I can leave it off a while longer. And your republic is quite beautiful. I have only ever heard descriptions but none do this magnificent country justice."

As the doors to the meeting room opened, Charles entered and took a seat. When Makena offered him a drink he hesitated, not knowing if the offer of alcohol was merely out of political cordiality. He decided to be safe and asked for a domestic lemon-lime soda. After he got his drink he began to talk.

"Now I am quite confused as to how your government here functions. Is there no check on the Dictators power? The people just elect you and thats the extent of their involvement in government? Also, how do you feel about the developements on the Sendrian-Aksoemite border?"

Makena expected this question. Such an outspoken character like himself would generate speculations into the Republic's inner workings.

"Well, believe it or not, for a dictatorship, this nation directs much of its focus on the people, rather than the interests of the ruler. It is true that I have literally endless power, but my actions are swayed by what the people want. If I issue an order that is despised by the majority of the people, it may be a terminal end to my reign."

Makena stressed the end of this portion, implying that he may be assassinated for severe blunders. It had happened before.

"As for the people's involvement, clerical and representative positions are available within my offices, as well as the political parties. The parties have always had a huge rivalry when it came to the dictatorship, and each faction will ensure that the election winner will do the best they can. They send down proposed laws, and they advise me at times. So if a person has an inquiry, they are usually made to their political party."

He allowed for the unusual system to soak into Charles' ears.

"As for the Sendrian-Aksoemian border, I personally believe it is a ticking time bomb. The mercury inside their thermometer is about to burst from the pipe. I do believe that teh Aksoemians' actions are just, but the so-called 'controlled' area will undoubtedly emerge as a war. If that happens, the Republic may support Aksoem."

Charles thought for a moment about that statement of support for Aksoem. "I have not met with any of the leaders directly involved and so can not make such a statement as you have. However, from what I have read and seen, you may be correct in your assessment. On the other hand, is the genocidal extermination of the whole necessary to destroy the few? All I foresee is the creation of yet more detractors."

After taking a drink from his soda, Charles began. "I would like to propose to you here and now that you make a pledge to support peace in this area of the world and to devote the strength of your nation not towards assisting the Aksoemites but towards achieving a good and lasting peace. If we are to ensure that terrorists like the ones who struck Temaril do not have a cause, then we must devote ourselves to peace."

The King wasn't a coward. He was convinced his nation could hold its own against any nation on this continent but he didn't want to see the proliferation of terrorism. Who knew when they would decide to attack the Confederacy.

"I have not met with any leader from Aksoem or Sendria either; I am simply stating which side seems to have the most logical standing. But, alas, war is never moral, despite its necessity."

Makena thought about Charles' question. It was a very philosophical one, one that needed careful attention.

"Is genocidal extermination necessary to destroy a few? Perhaps. It is all subjective. On one hand, it may show the weakness of a nation to properly handle a situation discreetly, all while creating a whirlpool of pain to anyone sucked into the dilemma. On the other hand, who are we to judge a nation's morals? Our lifestyle and our backgrounds determine who we are and what we do. We cannot push our beliefs on those who do not wish to believe. Like I said before, it's all subjective. I agree with you, that the more Aksoem and Sendria invest in their chaotic borders, the more people will be involved. However, until it becomes a manner of highly questionable human rights violations, we should allow the two nations to solve the issue themselves."

He sipped his wine gently, and peered out the window. At this moment there could be several terror organizations plotting to attack Temaril, the Barons' Alliance, or even the Republic. There was no question: peace must stand.

"I accept your hand of peace, Charles. Without a doubt the Lateral Republic will do its best to ensure peace in the Muslim and Indian world. However, I must ask, Charles, how far are you willing at ensure peace?"

Makena continued looking out his window when he asked the question.

Quite the question, but a logical one which necessitated an answer. Charles thought for a moment, he truly peered into his soul. Would he be willing to risk Confederate soldiers' lives to fight the wars of nations half a world away? Yes, he would. These days, half-the-world-away meant nothing. A terrorist in Aksoem might strike Sendrian immigrants in the Confederacy just to make a point. If it meant keeping terrorists off his soil and away from his citizens then yes he would be willing to sacrifice the lives of soldiers.

"We must never give in to the demands of terrorists. We must stand for what is just and morally righteous, even in the face of the most overwhelming adversity. Most of all, we must stand for every ones basic right to be free from terror. I am willing to do all that is necessary to attempt to stabilize the various crises' around the world in order to maintain the rule of law and the safety of the people of the world."

"As I am. let us unite our nations' vast distances with a pact of peace. Peace through diplomacy, or peace through war. Most likely, terrorism will demand blood. Well, if they want blood, they shall have it!"

His Baptist preacher-like statement was soon injected with a dose of reality and caution.

"Charles, I do appreciate your concern for global peace, about your dream of terror-free lands. And I have promised I would extend the Lateral Rpeublic's standing in the world, but I am not ready to police the world like a Big Brother. I pray that that is not where you are headed. It is important to protect my people, and if it may come, to ensure peace will be to prepare for war, but I only see global policing as overkill."

"We police that which is irredeemable, irreverent, and genocidal. Otherwise, we have no cause to intrude on others." he said frankly.

"Thank you for clarifying. The Lateral Republic would be able to support that notion. I have my people's support. At the whim of my hand, I can ensure that my intelligence committee will be turned 180 degrees, and be revamped to track down a gnat on the ass of a terrorist as he rushes to a secret meeting! You have my word, Charles, that the Republic will do its best to ensure terrorist-free peace in this hemisphere."

"I thank you for your committment to peace. This meeting has been most fruitful but I believe it is time that I rest and move on to my next appointment. Thank you verymuch for this chance to meet." said CHarles, for all intents and purposes, sincerely.

OOC: Let's assume that Charles has now arrived in Eyygui.

IC: Charles arrived at the large airport and descended the staircase from his jet. He was in no real mood to deal with the media, having just been informed of the Sun Kings declaration of war on Aksoem. He walked right past the assembled press corp and embarked in a convoy of black SUV's for the meeting place. Once he arrived, Charles was taken into the building and greeted the Sun King. "We must speak in private. Now."

"Yes we must" nodded Kael'thas, asking the convoy of SUVs to skip the city tour and head directly towards the back entrance of the Sun Palace. As they arrived bodyguards lined a row up the steps and into a grand doorway. The Sun King motioned Charles to head that way and accompanied him. Once inside the palace they headed straight towards the Room of Peace, where many others had been. Waiting there was the Sun King's daughter and the Adviser of Foreign Affairs. They all greeted Charles warmly.

"Would you like something to drink?" asked Kael'thas, then motioning the butler to bring in whatever he asked for. "What is it that you wish to speak about? As you have undoubtedly heard, we are now in a state of war with Akseom."

"A glass of water please." said Charles. "Now, please explain to me the reason you have declared war on Aksoem. A breach of peace and security should be made only in the most dire of circumstances. What is your circumstance?"

"The whole crisis began with the building of the dam. We are building a dam on the Denali River to aid our farmers and to stop floods south of the dam, which every year cause millions of Sols in damage and occasionally take several lives. As soon as we began the construction, Akseom began to cry out. Several civilians inside of their nation reported to us that farmers along their part of the river were given guns and ammunition and ordered to attack the dam."

Kael'thas paused to take a drink of water, noting the opportune moment to continue, his daughter began speaking "Several leads indicate that their government supplied these weapons. Weapons which in Eyygui are illegal to carry. However before we could act they had mobilized their border with several thousand troops. We responded by mobilizing the border as well and still resorted to diplomacy to resolve the issue, calling for both sides to mutually demobilize. They coldly rejected the proposal, indicating that our government had attacked a village inside their nation. I have searched all intellegence records and have been unable to find any records of the attacks."

The Advisor then interjected "We are led to believe that this is all a plot, fabricated by Akseom, to declare war upon us. Before we were attacked, we had to strike. We hope to end this war soon, with few to no civilian casualties. I would hope that Akseom calls for peace. We have done it once and they declined peace for war."
