Had a bit of an idea here. How do you guys feel about founding a marketplace which solely trades using material goods, instead of currency? I had the idea of nations declaring surpluses and deficits in production, where nations could fill each-others voids, so to speak. To illustrate this a bit further: let's say the wheat-harvest in Herrebrugh has been exceptionally well. They an approximate surplus of two-hundred thousand tonnes (I honestly don't know enough to judge whether this is as much as I hope it to be on an international scale, not too little or too much). On the other hand, their carpet weaving mills have apparently not been working very efficiently (I'll fire the person responsible right away) and the demand for carpets is about fifty thousand tonnes higher than they can supply. Kujan-Bulak, a well known exporter of carpets, has been having a lot of trouble recently. A drought has caused lots of failed crops. Being the champion in carpet-weaving it's always been, however, Kujan-Bulak has a surplus of one hundred thousand tonnes of carpets. The wheat deficit has reached about twenty thousand. Herrebrugh and Kujan-Bulak strike a deal: Herrebrugh makes sure Kujan-Bulak's crop deficit is turned into a surplus of several tens of thousands of tonnes, and Kujan-Bulak offers Herrebrugh enough carpets to fulfill their peoples' demand. Moral of the story: the goods produced through the labour of the workers are used to trade goods which also benefit the workers. Product deficits are relieved and everyone is happy. Well, except for the capitalists, maybe, because this is a system not based on profit, but instead on the optimal usage of surplus products produced through the labour of the workers. I generally believe this should be an economic union which involves signing a specific charter, which in turn could also involve such ideals as mandatory contribution of member nations to relieve famines, along with other such acts of solidarity. Anyway, I'd like some opinions. I could very well be going a bit overboard here. Edited by Herrebrugh, 13 Aug 2014, 12:37.

I really like this idea. It's a nice way of getting more into the economic side of NS while maintaining a socialist orientation. The famine-relief mandate sounds a bit like the work of the World Food Programme, of which it would certainly be a good idea to have a DSA equivalent. |

It's mainly a way for nations in the DSA to be able to abolish money while retaining the benefits of international trade, the abolishment of money (replaced by a system of "Labour points") being one of the main goals of the current Herrebrugher administration. We could possibly have a system which splits nations with an economic rating of strong and above, and those below strong, whereby the stronger economies try to help the weaker ones. Also, I was thinking we could sign long-term contracts with eachother, which let us contribute certain goods to eachother for a certain amount of time. To return to the Herrebrugh/Kujan-Bulak example, Herrebrugh and Kujan-Bulak could decide to continue supplying eachother with wheat and carpets for a year. |

It probably depends on how much radium is in the beads. But anyway, now's a convenient time to remind everyone of the random thing I said on the forum a bit ago: Meanwhile, Kotovania has found some superheavy radioactive elements on the "isle of stability." Meanwhile, reports are coming in that Kiptoke has sent the glorious leader of Kotovania some radioactive filet o' fish as a gift. Could they be after the potential power? Obviously, the filet o' fish is a metaphor. A metaphor for whatever they may supply, of the non-nuclear warhead type, preferably. |
