Nation: THE BLISSFUL COMMUNE OF KRYFTLAND Position running for: MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PLATFORM
EXPERIENCE
A note: What is solidarity? Solidarity is a word thrown around a lot by the left-wing, and nationstates is no exception. In fact, it's one of those words many people use without ever stopping to think what it actually means to them. For some, the word is used so freely that they see it as a meaningless catchword, and for others, the abuse of the word has caused them to be wary of it. In the context of foreign affairs, this is an important matter to reflect on. For me, solidarity is a fundamental mode of social interaction in which individuals no longer struggle against each other for conflicting ambitions, but instead cooperate together to achieve common interests, in which the liberty of each is no longer limited by, but complimented and validated by, the liberty of others. This cooperation isn't idealistic altruism or forced subservience to the community, as some say in an attempt to bring us back to animalistic struggle to secure their own profits; in fact, it is the voluntary mutual aid necessary to secure the liberty and individualism of every person. Solidarity is also the realisation of the egalitarian principle at the heart of socialism; in solidarity, every individual is of equal value and has equal power. These are all ideas and actions that we as democratic socialists, social democrats, Marxists, left communists, syndicalists and anarchists, all stand for. “Action from principle changes things and relations”, said Henry David Thoreau; we need to act on our principle of solidarity. This is why I believe solidarity is crucial to foreign affairs. Within our region, we act in solidarity with each other without even thinking about it, it comes naturally in a community of socialistic peoples such as ourselves. Where this principle of solidarity is truly put to the test, however, is outside of our community, when interacting with other regions or foreign individuals. Here, solidarity is sharply differentiated from philanthropy in that support is given “on their own terms”. This means – and here my views start to diverge from others in the region – that we cannot build solidarity with others regions by expecting them to hold exactly the same principles as us, nor by expecting them to hold their nations to the same standards as us, and certainly not by expecting things in return for our offer of solidarity. It is my belief that this genuine solidarity has been somewhat lacking from our region's interaction with the rest of the left-wing of nationstates, and that we need to develop forwards from businesslike, albeit friendly, diplomacy. |

If I could pull out, I would. I think you'd make a better MFA than me. I had hoped you would win the position. It looks to me like communists or Marxists are not trusted with this position in the DSA. SAM

Quite on the contrary, I think you would do the job better than me! I'm afraid I can be rather lacking in theoretical knowledge and eloquence of expression - abilities of which I notice you are certainly not lacking. To be honest (and honesty is no problem as I don't see the vote changing much now) I do not think I would be the best MFA, but I would like to see changes along the lines expressed in the note attached to my Manifesto, and it the sort of change that can only be effected by one's own actions as opposed to the feeble insinuation of what you believe to be right. So it happens in representative democracy at least.I don't think it is a matter of trust, comrade, rather it is undeniable that Terlibe has been doing a marvellous job so far, despite my more fundamental reservations, and has been satisfyingly reliable. On the other hand, I have proven myself to be an agitator, although failing miserably at even this lowly ambition. To those nations still thinking of voting for me, perhaps do not read the above! Oh how I sell myself!

Yes, I mostly agree with you, this region is open to communists and Terlibe is a great MFA, but he's had a lot of experience, I think this is his third time as MFA. Also, whilst I can claim to have reasonable theoretical knowledge, I wasn't good at the practical part of positing a manifesto, yours by the way is one of the clearest I've seen, Telibe's manifesto, it has to said, contains some unnecessary fluff. Having said that, Telibe cannot run next time round, that we give you a good chance in the next elections. Comradely SAM. |

Thank you for your kind words, Kryftland, I know you'd make a fantastic MFA. Jack, thank you for your kind words as well. This will be my fifth term as MFA, if I win. I'll admit it may be a bit overboard, but it is the position I have enjoyed the most, and I kept getting nominated so I figured I'd run. Out curiosity, why would I not be able to run next time around? |
