To my comrades of the Ninth Cabinet of the DSA, greetings! I wish to congratulate all of you on being elected or reelected your respective posts in the Cabinet and look forward to working with all of you during this term. Below you will find the issues that I would like the Cabinet to discuss and commit to as its shared agenda. However, all of you are free and encouraged to provide any feedback, ideas and initiatives you would like the Cabinet to pursue over the coming weeks. For all newcomers, the purpose of these meetings is to discuss issues facing the region as a whole and receive status updates from ministers on their duties in the region. I shall ask each of you to regularly (preferably at least once every week or two) update the Cabinet on the status of your ministries and share any concerns. I shall provide each ministry with a small list of items to address, though you need not discuss all of these at once as long as you get to each of them eventually. With that being said and without further delay, I declare open this meeting of the Ninth Cabinet. ---Agenda--- 1. Review jobs offered in the 'Help Wanted' subforum If you want an assistant for your ministry, post the job in the subforum. 2. Munificent Interregional Alliance (Continuation of IRALL) The Alliance treaty is currently in the drafting stage on the NS forums. Our responsibility is to draw up the government section of the treaty. Once the entire treaty is completed, it will need to be put up for a congressional vote. 3. The World Assembly I would like to see us acting as a more unified force on World Assembly affairs. This may include the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs, proposed by United Federation of Canada/Chester Pearson, last term or something of that nature. Ideas on this front are more than welcome 4. Interregional Diplomacy I would again like to see the establishment of new embassies if possible. I would also like to see regular communication with and from our current embassy regions, whose ties we will be strengthening with the Alliance treaty. 5. Congressional Action Now that we have a formal legislative process set up, I would like to get the ball rolling on proper legislation. One of the ideas brought up during the election was have Congress formally question the Cabinet. Other suggestions are welcome. 6. DSA Role Play Convention In cooperation with the Minister of Role Play, I would like to see a second round of the DSA Role Play Convention to outline details on the new common currency, a Bank of the DSA, a miniature WA for the DSA and establishing our roleplay history. 7. Reorganising the Forum To complement new activity in the Court and possible new activity in the Congress, I would like to see the Secretary General and I reorganise the forums under the guidance and recommendations of DSAers. ---Items for individual ministries--- Secretary General (SG): 1. Make sure everything is updated (Amendments, Charter nations, etc.). 2. Organise an evaluation of the Eighth Cabinet. 4. Contact the Scientific States to familiarise yourself with the position. Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA): 1. Make embassy recommendations to P/WAD. 2. Try to find new regions to potentially establish embassies with. 3. Monitor ambassadors for potential inactivity. 4. Appoint an advisor, if desired. Minister of Justice (MoJ): 1. Audit region for Civil Rights (CR), Political Freedoms (PF), and National Categories (NC) compliance. 2. Make recommendations to P/WAD for nations to eject, if any. Minister of Immigration/Regional Promotion (MIRP): 2. Review and revise recruitment telegram draft. 3. Contact the Suceavija to familiarise yourself with the position. Minister of Domestic Affairs (MDA): 1. Come up with new debate ideas. 2. Try to come up with a new contest or game. 3. Try to update all the information in the NS Wiki. (This will be problematic, given that NSWiki is "down for maintenance".) --There should not be too much to change. Mainly population and a few other minor details. 5. Appoint an advisor, if desired. 6. Contact Lemur Isles to familiarise yourself with the position. Minister of Role Play (MoRP): 1. Verify all nations on map are: --Existing --Reside in the region (domestic puppets okay, too) 2. Keep the map current and updated. 3. Encourage new roleplays in the Gymnasia. Well, I might as well get to all these responses... @Grobladonia: Couple of nitpicks. The word "Cabinet" is misspelled on the main page and the 5th Cabinet disptach title and the Peoples Socialism was the originally elected MIRP during the 8th Cabinet. Other than that, I like it. ![]() @Kiptoke: Good, because I'd like to rip the draft to shreds. ![]() @Haltari: I try to keep as far away from Wikia as I can, given how notorious they are for never taking anything down ever. Nor are they kind about wikis that want to jump ship and go to independent hosting. This is not to mention that I find myself uneasy with their Terms of Use. Point: I don't want our article on a Wikia-hosted site. But, Afforess is rebooting NSwiki under a slightly modified domain. (.org instead of .net) Not to mention that we have IIwiki (which is more of a roleplaying index, minded) and Charlotte Ryberg's NSindex that I'd feel much more comfortable having our article on. I have accounts on both of the latter and I can access the new NSwiki if we'd like to have our article on one of them. On the topic of the caretaker of the Capitol, the actual identity of the caretaker is irrelevant to me, though we can go through with a Charter amendment to move that responsibility back to the MDA if everyone is okay with it. @Gervase: As far as I now, we're still running Auralia's auto-telegramming tool. Also, according to Suceavija, he's been augmenting the auto-telegramming with manual recruitment in sinkers and non-Arnhelm signatories (which is perfectly legal by Arnhelm standards). I'm trying to keep up with that thread myself, since recruitment is still kind of dear a topic to me.

Regarding the Capitol, I actually wouldn't mind it if somebody else was responsible for keeping that updated. I have a lot of stuff to do both IRL and in the game and just doing th Daily Spam is pretty tricky. I have some things I have in ming for my term as MDA. I have an idea for a debate regarding protests and the pros and cons to a cause of holding a small protest vs. a large one. Another thing that I would consider is creating a new IRC channel (we've lost the admin password to our current one) and combining it with the IRC feature of NS++. This will however take me a while since I know next to nothing about IRC at the moment. I'll have some reading to do for this. |

Kiptoke, your telegram is certainly a start, but I think it could use a lot of improvement and a dose of "remember who you're writing for". Long telegrams are going to turn people off and make them less likely to come by the DSA. You're also going to need to get to the point and convince nations quickly. Remember to craft a "hook" to draw people in before you start outlining what our region is and what it's about. (Wow, I sounded just like an English teacher there...) I like the idea and I like that you focus on our ideals, our democracy and forums, but the execution falls short. ALL THE REDTEXT! For comparison, here's the telegram Gervase and I used during our three terms as MIRP: Spoiler Alert! If there's anything there you'd like to use, I do not object and I'm certain Gervase won't either. |

Ok. It was just a suggestion. It was Horgr, I think, who put it up there just to test it out. At this point, it might not be possible to take it down, but I'll try contacting him to see if what he posted can be deleted in any way. |

I can be the caretaker then. That would also avoid any need for a Charter Amendment. |

I've sent Haltari the password to the Capitol. I remembered that there was something about the MIRP in the 8th Cabinet but I couldn't remember who was first elected or why they lost their post. |

Are you talking about The People's Socialism? He was inactive and below charter levels in PF and CR.

I recommend following TSJI's advice on the recruitment telegram, Kiptoke. New nations get swamped with long, drawn-out recruitment messages when they're founded and almost all of them get tossed without being read. You need to stand out from the crowd by keeping it short, friendly, and light. Our yield skyrocketed when I changed the DSA's recruitment telegram from a long and bloated one to the version that TSJI posted above. |

Well, I've laboriously swept the region for nations violating the conditions of Membership in Congress and Residency. Only two Members of Congress were out of line (and therefore now suspended): Sarcophilus Harrisii Verince Incidentally, they'd fallen out of compliance for Residency as well, so they've been telegrammed and warned. By the way, Haltari, I noticed a couple of typos on the Congress list: "International Workers Cooperatives" should be “Internationalist Worker Cooperatives” and “Praetorian Republic of Arcomo” should just be “Arcomo.” Unfortunately, it was a different story for Residency requirements: almost 11% of the region (39 nations) is out of compliance, though about half just barely so, with PF or CR of "Below Average." Experience shows that many of these nations will get it together over the next couple of weeks, though many will need extensions. Needless to say, I won't be approving such a huge chunk of the region for ejection all at once -- the more serious cases of category violations will be dealt with promptly, but I'm more than willing to give a little extra help to nations that need it. There were also some nations that have been in the region for an exceptionally long time that have fallen out of compliance, and I'd particularly like to see those nations remain. Here's the full list. Terlibe, I'd also like to take this opportunity to make fun of you for allowing one of your puppets, The Terlibian Cat Islands, to fall out of compliance. Please fix their PF so that those poor animals no longer bow under the whip of your tyranny. |
