Given recent events and fresh ideas from our fellow region members, I believe a new place to discuss them would be appropriate. I will hope that a Cabinet meeting for every 25 days will remain feasible, though its return is just an experiment for right now. I shall still ask each of you to regularly update the Cabinet on the status of your ministries and share any concerns. I have again proposed an agenda to carry over from the previous meeting and provided each ministry with a small list of items to address, though again you need not discuss all of these at once as long as you get to each of them eventually. Therefore, I declare open the second meeting of the Eighth Cabinet. ---Agenda--- This had come up during my term as MoC, but little was ever done on this. I would like to get the Cabinet's and possibly Congress's opinion on this and edit them appropriately. 2. Leftist Alliance (Continuation of IRALL) The discussion resumed and stagnated on the NS forum. This would essentially be an alliance of leftist regions in the same vein as IRALL. 3. International and Embassy Expansion I would still like to see us expand our links further, see a couple more embassies established and encourage more nations, especially active ones, to serve as ambassadors. 4. Forum Activity Of particular concern to me is the lack of activity amongst the Congress outside of elections and a relatively slow forum in general. I would like to get some resolutions and laws passed through Congress to start the ball rolling, have the MoRP encourage more role plays in the Gymnasia and see the MDA do the same in the Great Debate Hall. The People's Socialism is currently in discussions with the South Pacific on the DSA's role in the World Fair. Our region may want to start getting its presentation ready. 6. DSA-TI Relations Given the continuing military zone in force in the Internationale and the continuing evacuation of non-WA nations, I would like the Cabinet to determine a future for the as of yet unofficial and limited DSA involvement in the situation. 7. Proposals from region-mates Commendation of Haltari for service as P/WAD and MIRP Fifth Cabinet entry in Capitol Factbook (proposed by Grobladonia, in progress) Ministry of World Assembly Affairs (proposed by United Federation of Canada) ---Items for individual ministries--- Secretary General (SG): 1. Make sure everything is updated (Amendments, Charter nations, etc.). 2. Organise an evaluation of the Eighth Cabinet before the end of the term. 3. Appoint an advisor, if desired. Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA): 1. Make embassy recommendations to P/WAD. 2. Try to find new regions to potentially establish embassies with. 3. Monitor ambassadors for potential inactivity. Minister of Justice (MoJ): 1. Audit region for Civil Rights (CR), Political Freedoms (PF), and National Categories (NC) compliance. 2. Make recommendations to P/WAD for nations to eject, if any. Minister of Immigration/Regional Promotion (MIRP): 2. Continue negotiations and discussions on the NS World Fair. incoming Minister of Domestic Affairs (MDA): 1. Come up with new debate ideas. 2. Try to come up with a new contest or game. 4. Appoint an advisor, if desired. Minister of Role Play (MoRP): 1. Verify all nations on map are: --Existing --Reside in the region (domestic puppets okay, too) 2. Keep the map current and updated. 3. Encourage new roleplays in the Gymnasia. I was also thinking it could be fun to introduce them to our RP subforum since RP seems to be a portion of the fair and we have been aiming to boost regional RP activity in the last couple months - would that be advisable?

I think it depends on wether we'll decide about reorganizing our forum structure in the short term. What I mean is: if we'll do it soon, wait until done. If not, well, no problems. |

I wonder, should we use the new shiny WFE poll tool the get regional opinions on the new currency names? I also was wondering what everyone thinks would be the best way to display the flags, symbols, and factbook entries. I was thinking of either making a factbook entry in the DSA Capitol City or a subforum in Zetaboards. Thoughts? |

I really like the idea of using the poll to hold a vote on currency names. It's a pretty awesome new tool at our disposal. |

Well, I had other plans for the WFE polls, but using it for currency names is a good idea. If it's fine, though, I'd to be able to use the polls for WA proposals.

I received this telegram from Uni last night about the aborted DSA-UDL treaty. Right now, as always, I'm disinclined to support, precisely because the DSA has always taken a neutral stance on R/D. But we have to give Uni props for his persistence, don't we? |

UDL: I agree that it would be unwise to enter such a partnership with the UDL. Doing so puts our entire region in league with the R/D aspect of the game, whether every nation here wishes to or not; which I don't think is fair. This would potentially create a huge rift among residents here who prefer the official neutrality, exemplified by their continued presence here. Besides, everyone is free to engage the R/D aspect of the game at will on their own time in whatever capacity they wish; so I see no reason why changing this relationship would be a tactical advantage for the DSA. I have nothing against Uni (I actually have quite a nice report with him) but his interests certainly are with the UDL exclusively; and we must be thinking of those for the DSA. At the time he was heavily lobbying me to enter such a partnership, I couldn't help but feeling that his ambitions may have had more to do with causing a PR coup to spite those within TI rather than merely engaging more closely with us. I would obviously be the last person to advocate for TI, but my concern was more to do with the tactic of manipulation by an outside party to gain from our tumultuous relationship with a common enemy. I simply couldn't let the DSA become someone else's pawn in the R/D game, especially when we alone ultimately have to pick up the pieces and deal with all the strife when the internal and external consequences of such a huge change of regional position hit the fan. I can't help but notice that the UDL comes knocking whenever we've just had a spat with TI. As proposed by our President, I also support not opening relations with the UDL at this time. Other things: I would also like to propose moving the new Factbook Code thread to perhaps to the 'technical' or 'role play' subforums to make it easier to find for future reference by others. I am very glad that this was started by our MDA! I think this as well as the naming of geographic elements in the map will spur a new level of activity and involvement in the region ![]() I wonder too if we should think about putting the regional currency and Haltari's amendments up for vote in a referendum in the upcoming election? That time is actually coming up very fast. Ministry Report: I haven't posted a population update because despite having gained 20+ nations since the last one, we have (as of press time) lost just as many to CTE alone; so the population today (365) is the same it was on New Year's eve, unfortunately. It's a bit discouraging since the auto-TG has reached now over 2,000 recipients. We've had an approximately 1% success rate. My efforts continue; though I will not be able to personally reach out to more established nations in places like Balder once classes start next week. I think I may solicit help from volunteers after that point. Edited by Suceavija, 9 Jan 2014, 22:03.

I soon realised that posting the factbook code thread in the Fun and others thread was a bad idea I definitely agree that it should be moved somewhere more specific and less active.

In re UDL: I think you have a point, Suc. I won't pester Uni about it, though. (He and I really haven't had much in the way of contact with each other, especially given that our NS fortes don't overlap.) In re MIRP report: I've been kind of frustrated that the datasheet hasn't been updated every Saturday. As NSHistory would tell you, the DSA has had some wild population swings since the last proper update. Other than that, I'm happy to hear that things are running smoothly. In re Factbook Code thread: I can move that to the Help Desk if you think it's appropriate. In re Elections: If I'm not mistaken, the nominations start on Saturday. I'll ask Haltari if they still want to pursue the amendments and we can see if we clean up a few things over the next week. Meanwhile, I think the regional currency would be better if it was disconnected from the Congress, since not all nations (TSJI included) would want to adopt the common currency. (Just my two cents.) |
