Greetings, comrades of the Seventh Cabinet of the DSA!

Congratulations on being elected or reelected to your respective Cabinet positions and I look forward to working with all of you in this new cabinet. The issues below are what the cabinet will be deliberating on, and like in previous cabinets, these recommendations are simply what I would like the 7th Cabinet to discuss as its shared agenda. All of you are free to provide any feedback, ideas, or additional issues that you believe should be discussed by our cabinet.

For all new cabinet members, this meeting is designed to be a discussion of our region's issues as a whole and the various initiatives concerning each individual Cabinet member. Therefore, I recommend that all of you participate in this meeting at least once per meeting in order to keep the entire Cabinet informed of your various tasks, duties, and concerns. Each meeting, you will receive a small list of recommendations for your ministry to address, but you do not need to discuss all of your recommendations at once, as long as you get to each of them eventually. And with this statement, I officially open the 1st Cabinet Meeting of the 7th Cabinet.

1. Amendment #39: Total Revision of the Charter

2. Complete commendation for Grolsch

3. Review jobs offered in the 'Help Wanted' subforum (if you want an assistant for your ministry, post the job in the subforum)

4. NS Cultural Expo
I have not heard from the main nation about this in quite some time, but this is still a possibility.

5. Leftist Alliance (Continuation of IRALL)
I think this discussion should start all over again, possibly on the NS forum, to try to create a large leftist alliance, like what was proposed with the IRALL treaty.

6. International and Embassy Expansion
After some recent incidents, I think it is important to look for some new regions and approaching them about diplomatic relations. We already have one embassy (UDLS) on the way, but I would like to find some other new embassies.

7. Automated Welcoming Telegrams

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Items for individual ministries to address:

Secretary General (SG):
1. Along with me, encourage maximum participation for the Charter Revision so that it gets done.
2. Make sure everything is updated (Amendments, Charter nations, etc.)
3. Once the Charter Revision is finished, start a voting process for both the revision and the commendation for Grolsch.
4. Appoint an advisor, if desired

Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA):
1. Make embassy recommendations to P/WAD
2. Keep an eye on the UDLS. The embassy should be established soon.
3. Try to find new regions to potentially establish embassies with. Also, try to create some closer friendships and alliances with some of our existing embassies.
4. Appoint an advisor, if desired

Minister of Justice/Head of Supreme Court (MoJ):
1. Audit region for Civil Rights (CR), Political Freedoms (PF), and National Categories (NC) compliance
2. Make recommendations to P/WAD for nations to eject, if any
--I would like to eject as few nations as possible until Charter Amendment #39 is completed, but report all of the violators anyway.
--Last term, Ratateague and I would give extensions to improving nations in order to prevent ejections of nations that are trying to improve.
3. Contact Ratateague to familiarize yourself with the position

Minister of Immigration/Regional Promotion (MIRP):
1. Make sure the auto-telegram system is transferred and working properly.
2. Try to find more info about the NS Cultural Expo

Minister of Domestic Affairs (MDA):
1. Come up with new debate ideas.
2. Try to come up with a new contest or game, although we already have a lot at the moment.
3. Update all the information in the NS Wiki.
--There should not be too much to change. Mainly population and a few other minor details.
4. Update all the information in the DSA Capitol
5. Appoint an advisor, if desired

Minister of Cartography (MoC): (or interim MoC)
1. Verify all nations on map are:
--Existing
--Reside in the region (domestic puppets okay, too)
2. Add nations from map opt-in subforum who request placement on map
3. Essentially just keep the map current and updated
4. Contact The Saint James Islands to familiarize yourself with the position.

I'm starting to think that we should just go forward with this forum discussion because we are starting to run out of time. We have less than 3 weeks left of this cabinet.

Yeah. These cabinets always do. My three terms have all gone by very quickly.

With all due respect, Killadonia needs to calm down. Commenting that their region had a dictatorial streak because they have a president-for-life is not even remotely out of line. I'm not going to be a bad diplomat by telling anyone from their region that, of course, and indeed I'm not even set against the idea of an embassy, but between we Cabinet members I think they're being quite oversensitive.

I disagree. They aren't dictatorial, so I completely understand why they may have been offended.

As suggested earlier, I created a poll to try to solve this issue democratically: http://s1.zetaboards.com/DemocraticSocialist/topic/5265344/1/?x=0
I'll post it on the RMB, so everyone can vote on the embassy.

Leaving aside the question of whether they have a democratic deficit or not, the way that they've dealt with criticism should give us pause. If Killadonia had a problem with what was being said about them or their region, they could have come to me or to Riasy, or to the RMB, and made a case for themselves. Instead, they sent a long, defensive message to our MFA about their hurt feelings, and only came to the RMB after I suggested it.

To be honest, it baffles me sometimes when people are "offended" because they're held up to some criticism in NS. We're supposed to be representing nations, after all -- how would the world function if all nations acted in such a sniveling way when they weren't handled with kid gloves? Light only comes from heat, after all, and sometimes being too conflict-avoidant only gets us into trouble further on down the road.

A "constitutional monarchy" embassy partner is something that I could potentially live with, but I do think we should give this issue some serious thought before we make thin-skinned partners. Let them answer the questions on the RMB, face down the criticism directly, and then we'll see how it goes.

Sorry, but I completely disagree.

I don't believe the telegram I received was out of line at all. I don't even think it was too defensive. Killadonia was trying to clear up some misconceptions that were said on our RMB. Also, I can understand them being somewhat offended by members of our region calling him dictatorial. I'm not saying we shouldn't express our opinion, or that anyone in our region was out of line, I'm merely stating that I understand where they are coming from.

Don't you think it may be a little intimidating for someone to enter a region where people have openly criticized them? We shouldn't hold it against any of them because they didn't come over here without being asked. The point is that they agreed to do it when we did ask.

Looks like SAM is still determined to split us up: http://s1.zetaboards.com/DemocraticSocialist/topic/5266130/1/#poll95561. He is claiming that it is to have a more representative cabinet, but the problem is that we don't vote on issue based things in the DSA. We do discuss various issues and have different opinions on those issues, but we have any need to change anything in the DSA based on our own political, social, or economic opinions. Our laws exist to keep our discussion-based community going, and they are not there to be changed based on political opinions.

Terlibe, fair enough. I just don't want us to get involved with another region that's going to be trouble, since we seem to have had a lot of that over the past few months. Again, let's just see how the RMB discussion goes and take it from there.

And regarding SAM, our current policy of just letting him talk and generally ignoring his ideas seems to be working just fine.
