Greetings, comrades of the Sixth Cabinet of the DSA! Congratulations on being elected or reelected to your respective Cabinet positions and I look forward to working with all of you in this new cabinet. Just like with the 5th Cabinet, there will be new meeting every 2 weeks or so from this point forward. The issues below are what the cabinet will be deliberating on, and like in previous cabinets, these recommendations are simply what I would like the 6th Cabinet to discuss as its shared agenda. All of you are free to provide any feedback, ideas, or additional issues that you believe should be discussed by our cabinet. For all new cabinet members, this meeting is designed to be a discussion of our region's issues as a whole and the various initiatives concerning each individual Cabinet member. Therefore, I recommend that all of you participate in this meeting at least once per meeting in order to keep the entire Cabinet informed of your various tasks, duties, and concerns. Each meeting, you will receive a small list of recommendations for your ministry to address, but you do not need to discuss all of your recommendations at once, as long as you get to each of them eventually. And with this statement, I officially open the 1st Cabinet Meeting of the 6th Cabinet. 1. Complete commendation for Grolsch This has already been written and submitted, and I am hoping we will be able to get this finished and voted on in the next congressional vote. 2. Prepared ministerial statements workshop (ongoing project) Now that the auto-telegram system is being implemented, it would be good to look at creating a more standard set of telegrams and statements to be sent out automatically. This was proposed by Grobladonia in the last cabinet, and since both Terlibe and I have been very active, this has not been necessary. However, I think that we could still discuss this further. If you would like to look at what we already discussed about this, look at the 3 meetings for the 5th Cabinet. Currently being discussed on the charter revision. This is currently in progress, so I encourage everyone to take part. 5. Review jobs offered in the 'Help Wanted' subforum (if you want an assistant for your ministry, post the job in the subforum) Windport posted one article in the newspaper during the elections, but I would like if articles were still much more frequent. We could also potentially create some kind of chief editor position to manage and encourage greater involvement in the newspaper. This can be solved in the charter revision if necessary This was an issue that appeared during the election, and I created the "Congressional Elections and Votes" section in the Election and Votes sub forum in order to test out the possibility of doing a anonymous poll. The only problem is that this kind of anonymous system would make preferential voting very difficult, but there are ways around that. I have begun talking about this in the charter revision, so this issue will soon be solved. 8. Proposed embassy (and colonization) by Stonehaven 9. Inactivity on the forums, and a relative lack of new, lasting members. 10. NS Cultural Expo ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Items for individual ministries to address: Secretary General (SG): 1. Try contacting Suceavija about the Charter Revision, and if possible, establish a date to begin its scrutiny. 2. Finish creating the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section in 'Introduction' forum, edit 'About the Democratic Socialist Assembly' to include link to FAQ's. --Contact Terlibe and United Republic of People for more information on these 3. Make sure everything is updated (Amendments, Charter nations, etc.) 4. Appoint an advisor, if desired --United Republic People was Terlibe's advisor so I suggest contacting him. Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA): 1. Make embassy recommendations to P/WAD 2. Prepare interregional intelligence report for CAB --Interregional partners/allies --Interregional adversaries --Other regions of interest, if any 3. Keep track of the progress that UDLS is making towards 20 members so that we can establish an embassy 4. Find out the situation with all of our ambassadors and embassies, and contact Herrebrugh to familiarize yourself with the positions 5. Appoint an advisor, if desired Minister of Justice/Head of Supreme Court (MoJ): 1. Audit region for Civil Rights (CR), Political Freedoms (PF), and National Categories (NC) compliance 2. Make recommendations to P/WAD for nations to eject, if any --Like I stated before, I would like to eject as few nations as possible until Charter Amendment #39 is completed, but report all of the violators anyway. Minister of Immigration/Regional Promotion (MIRP): 1. Try to add filters/improve the API as much as you can 2. Verify if/when interregional leftist fair is being held --I am just going to keep this in here for you to remember to notify the cabinet about any of these kinds of events if they show up Minister of Domestic Affairs (MDA): 1. Continue coming up with new debate ideas. 2. Try to come up with a new contest or game 3. Update all of the information in the NS Wiki. --There should not be too much to change. Mainly population and a few other minor details. --Also elaborate on the timeline that Grobladonia started 4. Read over Grobladonia's suggestions and contact him to familiarize yourself with the position. 5. Appoint an advisor, if desired Minister of Cartography (MoC): 1. Verify all nations on map are: --Existing --Reside in the region (domestic puppets okay, too) 2. Add nations from map opt-in subforum who request placement on map 3. Essentially just keep the map current and updated 4. Contact New Andureo to familiarize yourself with the position. Edited by Haltari, 15 Jul 2013, 08:20.

Basically, there was a question last time over whether you could vote for a nation that was running in two different races -- say, if Nation N were running for MIRP and MDA at the same time. I think it was pretty much decided that you're free to do so. I think public nominations are fine, but as I've advanced previously I do think the secret ballot is a crucial part of a mature democracy. We've had secret polls on here before that have worked just fine, but the problem is that there's no obvious way to have an election be secret and do ranked voting at the same time. One idea would be approval voting, where you're not ranking candidates but just voting for as many choices as you like -- the way the flag poll was run, for instance. Of course, we're somewhat bound by the requirements of the Charter in this regard. I definitely support doing a Cabinet evaluation, and I'd even go a step further by incorporating a requirement in the new Charter that one be done every term. |

I definitely think that public nominations are entirely fine, and that's how I'm going to set everything up. My main question was about the actual elections. This time, I would actually like to try a secret ballot because I even created a new topic for that a while back. I also agree with Gervase that a cabinet evaluation is important and that it should be added to the charter revision. For this cabinet, we could do it at the same time as the elections or after them. It could still be useful by advising the next cabinet in what to do and not do. Regarding the revision itself, I think that leaving it for after the elections and after summer would be a good idea. It's slowly coming along, but it should definitely be pushed following the elections. @Gervase That wasn't the issue or at least that's not how I looked at it. To me it was about nominating two different nations for the same position, but I guess that doesn't really matter anymore. |

A cabinet evaluation is a good idea. I know we did it for the last cabinet, and I hope to see some improvements I can make before the next MDA is elected. |

So should we do the evaluation now or after the elections? I think both of them will be useful for the next cabinet. |

At this point we might want to wait until elections and terms are over do to the evaluations -- I think the region has enough on its plate right now, and we might as well get the full picture of the last cabinet when asking people's opinions. |

By the way, will there be any referenda at the same time as this election? The commendation for Grolsch? |
