The tension was killing Carmain. Someone or something was approaching the lounge where Nathan and Carmain were waiting. The situation was already bad, the puddles of blood were all around the room and now it was possible that the psychopat who did this was getting closer. Carmain quickly looked at Nathan and nodded to him. They slowly walked closer to the open door, ready to shoot anytime. Carmain briefly stopped and then jumped to the corridor. He was expecting to see some crazy guy with weapon or something like that, but instead there was a woman, one of the teachers here. "Hey! What happened here?" said Carmain while slowly approaching her. Suddenly, she fell on the ground breathing heavily. Carmain and Nathan kneeled down to check on her, but neither of them expected to see a view like this - woman was stabbed right through her stomach. If that wasn't enough, her clothes were all torn by some kind of beast, at least that was what Carmain thought. "Hold on, lady! Nathan, stop the bleeding! I saw a med pack in the lounge!". While Nathan was attending to womans wounds, Carmain quickly ran back to the teacher's lounge and picked up the last med pack. "Everything is going to be ok, don't move." said Nathan. They managed to patch her up enough to easy the pain, but it was obvious that the woman doesn't have much time left. It was only the matter of minutes until she would die because of the severe wounds. Carmain couldn't let a chance to know about Adaline whereabouts slip by. "Hey, can you tell me if Adaline, Adaline Evenson, is still here? We were looking for her when... When we found you." The woman slowly opened her eyes and turned her head towards Carmain. Then she spoken quietly "Li-little Adaline? Ye-yes, I know her... She's... She's not here. She was al-already gone when they came." Carmain was relieved to hear that. At least she wasn't here in this mess he thought. But something picked his suspicion. "They? Who's they? Did you saw the faces of people who did this to you?" When Carmain asked her about what happened in the school, both he and Nathan saw how woman's face got defigured by pure fear. She started mumbling something about monster, how the dead arose and changed, and started killing everyone. Carmain thought that she was delusional, but when the woman mentioned The Marker and that ship, on which it was brought, Carmain froze. He already knew that USG Ishimura was somewhere on the Sprawl. Now, he was certain. And that Marker had to do something with what was happening here. Several minutes later the woman finally passed away. There was nothing Carmain and Nathan could do to save her life. But they were already used to this. Now, Carmain got another clue about his brother's death - The Marker. He felt that it's somehow related, his guts were telling him so, but Carmain couldn't figure out how. "Carmain, Adaline isn't here, we should get moving. Something is wrong here, we need to leave fast and call the police." Nathan was right, something was bugging him for a while now and Carmain never doubted his friend's judgement. As they were leaving Carmain's comm cought a signal. "...stuck... top flo... apartments... thing... help... answer" It was full of interference, but Carmain managed to get the idea of location. He turner to Nathan. "Nathan, take care of things here. I'm going to try and track down the person sending this, maybe that's Alexis." Nathan nodded and wished Carmain good luck. |

After a period of further hesitation, the duo exited the apartment. Alexis had offered Arthur some support, but he'd taken the hump from her threats and insisted he didn't need her help. Instead he limped along with a makeshift crutch made from duct tape and the legs of the broken coffee table. "Hmph... so... where are we going?" he finally mumbled, avoiding any sort of eye contact. The truth was, she wasn't certain herself. She'd re considered going to the school, it was getting late, but ada could have hidden herself in there. That was assuming the creatures had reached there, and that they hadn't gotten her. "We're going to titan elementary. To find my sister, you might remember her." Now she had his attention, another one of his 'what the hell' faces. She didn't bother responding, she was already about to hop the railing and shimmy down to the floor below when he spoke again. "Wait... Alexis!" she halted and turned to him, a little unimpressed that he was slowing them down, and time seemed more precious than ever knowing her sister was in danger "We can't go that way.." he tilted his head to indicate his leg, more time consuming. |

Matthew awoke to some static to a replayed message. He tried to get up and felt an excruciating pain in his left shoulder with pain in his hip, waist and back as well. He tried again and succeeded, groggy from being pulled from his sleep and confused by the unfamiliar surroundings. "can't get anyone else to answer." the final part of the looped log pulled him back to reality. He remembered the fight with the crap ton of bite sized monsters and how they were the cause of his severe injures. He turned to look at the carnage but, much to his surprise, there wasn't a single body to be found. The blood was still there but otherwise there was no sign of the earlier fight. He found that unnerving to say the least and listened to the message again. "This is Paige Farland. I am stuck on the top floor of the apartments. I just killed a...a...thing. If anyone hears this, send help please. I cant get anyone else to answer." Confident that he gathered as much info as he could from the log, he closed it He was close so he pulled up a personnel file as he got up. 'Paige Farland huh? 29, 5' 10", 145, Triage doctor. I could really-' His thoughts were interrupted by a coughing fit. He pulled his hand away from his mouth, blackened with iron-rich blood. 'soon...' He made it to the nearest elevator and called it. Time moved agonizingly slow and his body burned from the rig covered wounds. The fabric was amazingly durable. even the slashes seemed to leave the suit unscratched, even if he wasn't so lucky. As the door opened, he stumbled in and started the elevator to the top floor. He sat against the wall on the other side of the elevator door, breathing heavily. Using the time he had in the elevator, he made a text log to send in response. If you're getting this, my nam is Matthew Bilski. I was... is... am a systems engineer for the CEC. I recived your video log and am on my way. I'm just under you so stay put and I'll be there soon. careful, they can come out of the vens. I'm not sure how man kinds there are but I can tll you to watch out for the kids. There's never just one of them. They almost got me, cut me up and bitt my shoulder. How werd is that? I'm nt sure I'll make it too well but I'll tr my best. Best of luck in suriving and I'll be there momen... sooon. He sent the typo riddled log off. He usually would have fixed them but then he'd also usually have two arms easily working and his day wouldn't be something out of a bad horror movie. So he thought he'd get a little leeway on this one. What were they gonna do, fire him? Edited by Glacierstar, 20th February 2012 - 11:24 PM.

A half hour had passed, and the noise had died down a lot. The occasional scream or gunfire could be heard in the distance, but it was always died out quickly. She had always been told that in an emergency, she should stay where she is, and await rescue, but staying so close to that body had casued her to be a little more than uncomfortable. The only move she had made thus far was to move closer to a smaller heating vent, hoping that if these creatures hunted by monitoring heat she would be safe. It was a farfetched theory, but the entire concept of the thing was farfetched. She knew there were more though, she could hear them attacking others on the floor below her, from time to time. What if they're making their way up? Suddenly she was even more uncomfortable. As she sat, leaning against the wall, her suits comm activated with three loud beeps. Her left hand shot out, trying to deactivate the sound as quickly as possible. All three beeps went off, of course, but maybe they weren't as loud as she thought. She allowed the communication to open, a text log from a Matthew Bilski, systems engineer. She immediatly wondered if he was at that industrial tram crash last year. CEC was, after all, the only company that had industrial trams, so it was a connection. She dismissed the thought. She had other things to worry about, he was coming to get her. Rescue. Best of luck in suriving and I'll be there momen... sooon. His log was full of typos and misspelled words. If he was attacked, it was possible he was in trouble from blood loss or maybe even...infection? Does it transmit? For a second, she wondered if her help was help at all, but quickly forced such thoughts away, and began to type her own message. "Thank you for coming for me, Mr. Bilki. Your wounds, are they clotting? Are you woozy?" After a short pause, she sent it. She held on to the hope that whatever it was , it wasn't transmitable. She stood, and keeping as far away from the things body, took a short stroll down the hall to the elevator, and stood opposite of it. But if he was coming up the elevator than what was making a gentle thumping noise below the balcony on her left? Edited by Sanders, 22nd February 2012 - 06:32 PM.

Arthur's leg quickly buckled under the stresses of his injury, he found himself toppling into the nearest trash can for support whilst the makeshift bandages begun to seep through a deep red. "Ale...Alexisss..." Arthur was calling out to shadows, he raised his head wearily, his vision slowly blurring through the tears of his pain. Alexis was nowhere to be seen, all that remained with Arthur was the coldness of the overhead lights which didn't illuminate more than a metre or so of corridor before fading to darkness. Thunk...thunk... Arthur was barely limping across the corridor with his crutches, straining and creaking from his entire weight, thunking into the ground as he made his way over to a balcony, here he could see a larger room below, dark, but also more balconies over on the f- There. Arthur saw movement on the top right balcony, A woman's face was looking down over at him. "Alexis?", It was too far to tell, but at least the face wasn't torn with blood pouring from its jaws and that was good enough for Arthur, summoning the final reserves of his strength as his life literally poured out of him, shuffled to the elevator door on his level. Arthur clicked the button at least several times before a moment allowed him to realise, the elevator was already being used. Shit. A sudden ping signalled the opening of the doors, Arthur only got a brief glimpse of the figure waiting inside before his body gave way, he slumped to the ground. |

The thumping noise turned into a crash, drawing Paige's attention to the lower, opposite balcony. A man was down there, moving on makeshift crutchs. She was just starting to yell, get his attention, but realised that it would be more productive to move to him instead. She switched her communicator off, absentmindly as she waited, fearing that any unneccasary noises would cause problems. The elevator on her side was already on her floor, she was the last person to use it after all. It had slipped her mind that she heard the screams and roars coming from the floor beneath her. She stepped into the elevator and pressed the button. It seemed like such a definitive action, like it was a final choice. "Trusting strange men now, Paige?" Her father was behind her, whispering in her ear. "I guess I didn't raise you very well. In the end Paige, its usually the little things like that do the most damage." And than he was gone, the silence set back in. The door pinged, and slid open. A slaughterhouse was the first thing that greeted her. To say the walls were caked in gore would have made the scene sound better than it actually was. The stench of the hall hit her full on, and she actaully had to put her helmet on to get away from the smell. Faintly, she could hear the the familiar voice of ther father singing 'The itsy bitty spider', yet no matter where she looked she could not find his apparition. She felt like a child again, wantng to run and hide somewhere. The hall was quiet, but the lack of sound made the mass of corpses more disturbing, empty eyes stared at her as she passed. She just tried to focus on getting to the other balcony without any...complications. The next hall was seemngly empty, with no dangers, bodies, or blood visible. She procced slowly, listening intently to everything. It seemed she in the dead center of the hall when she heard a series of low chirping noises. She remembered what Matthew had said in his message. Children. Edited by Sanders, 24th February 2012 - 11:54 AM.

There's no going back now Lex.. She crept into the train station with her back pressed against the wall and a bar she'd salvaged from a broken sign in her hands. Her journey thus far had been quiet, there'd been the odd scuffle in the shadows, but she'd yet to encounter any more of the creatures from before. But a new location meant she had to resume her guard, so she grasped the 'hilt' tightly and edged around the corner. Nothing. Now that she was there, it occured to her that she was expecting to catch a train, when there was no sign of a driver anywhere, she'd be lucky to find a train. Today, luck was not on her side. And Arthur was not by her side either. She'd had to abandon him, she had no choice, his injuries were slowing her down and she needed to find Ada. But she hadn't left him completely empty handed. There in her hand she held his wallet, for the most part is was empty, it seemed either her ex associate was either broke or not fond of carrying money around on his person. She wasn't really buying the latter, no matter how easy it was to pickpocket him. However it wasn't completely useless, the wallet held the one thing that would get her access to the unitology center, should she need it. Of course she had her hopes set on finding her sister at the school, but if she didn't, this would help. She'd seen plenty of movies, train doesn't arrive? You walk along the tracks and somehow dont get hit by a train. Even if that were true, the line she was taking had ceiling and flloor tracks, part of her journey always went out of the tunnel and over the city, she always hated looking down and wondering what would happen if the train came off it's tracks. Well that certainly won't do, not going anywhere without a tr- and there it was. For a train system based on modern tech, the little cervice carriage couldn't have looked anymore old fashioned. ---- Alexis definately wasn't in a hurry to do that again, infact, she wasn't in a hurry to go on a train every again. If she height had freaked her out in the train carriage, in the tiny service carriage it had been much worse. It occured to her that Carmain would be in stitches if he'd seen her covering in the tiny carriage he'd probably say 'You should have stolen and hacked a train' or 'Never straight forward Alexis' only in jest of course. She wondered if he was okay, he'd always been good to them, she just hoped he was okay. That when it hit her. It being the child like creature that pounced on her and knocked her on her ass right outside trixies. She hadn't seen it due to it's short height, now she was staring it to a face she would never unsee. Without a hint of hesitation she brought the bar down on the back of its head and threw it off her, rolling back onto her feet to face it's friends. Unlike the last creature, this one seemed to fight in a pack. They didn't wait for her to make a full recovery, they were already charging at her with infantile energy. Alexis found normal children terrifying, this really didn't help her irrational discomfort. They werent children though and she'd have to harm them this time. She drew back her arm and threw the bar straight into the skull of one of the pack, before using the G.R.I.P to retreive it. Just in time to bat the next in the side of the head with great force, the cracking sound did little to phase the others as they continued to charge. She ducked low and swipe out the legs of another child, before bringing the bar down into its chest. Then, using the corpse as a base, she swung round the poll and kicked the head right off another. Leaving one more standing. But where was he? She used the kenisis to retrieve the bar one more, looking around for the last guy, this one was smarter than the others. He'd managed to sneak up on her and dived onto back. She tried to shake him off, but he'd dug his claws into her arm and wasn't playing fair. "Argh, SHIT!" It wasn't going to give up, she had no choice. With all her force, she dropped backwards onto the ground. Crushing the brat under her weight and cracking its skull on the hard floor. Her own landing wasn't painless, but her concerns were elsewhere. Where was Ada? What if these freaks had gotten to her? What if... no, it didn't bare thinking about. She'd used the bar to get off the ground and made her approach to the school at the end of her path, calling out all along the way. "Ada! AAAAADAAA?! ADALINE!!! ADDY?!?!!" She prayed someone would hear her calls. |

Carmain split up with Nathan. It seemed pointless looking for Adaline in the school anymore. The woman also said that she wasn't here anymore. There was nothing he could do here, so Carmain decided to check the source of the message his comm cought few minutes ago. As he was about to leave school something unexpected happened. Suddenly Carmain heard something hitting the ground quietly. He turned around and noticed something quickly disappearing behind the corner. Carmain instinctively aimed his gun towards it. He started walking towards slowly. Before checking what was behind it, Carmain stopped. His heart was pounding, it looked like everyone around could hear Carmain's heartbeat... but he was all alone. Carmain quickly walked around the corner expecting the worst, but there was only a dark void. I wish I had a flashlight. Carmain's hunch was telling him to go further, but his mind said to get the hell out of there. The darkness made Carmain nervous, but nevertheless, he went further. After wandering around in the dark for some time, Carmain finally noticed a dim light ahead. He slowly approached it still holding his gun tight. Carmain checked around looking for anything dangerous, but the area was clear. Luckily, his journey wasn't useless. There was some medpacks and even several spare power nodes. It didn't seemed that Carmain wandered too far from the entrance to the school and after resting several minutes he was about to head back. But when, on the other side of the glass, separating the room in which Carmain was and another one, he saw a man with an Unitologist's uniform. He wouldn't have paid that much attention to that fanatic if he wasn't holding a little girl's hand. The girl was the little Adaline. It seemed that the Unitologist also noticed Carmain. The man grinned with a wicked smile. "Oh... We have a guest. I'm sorry, but I can't remain here any longer. We need to go meet your parents, don't we, Adaline?" Adaline turned to Carmain and smiled. "Hey hey, he said I'll see my daddy and mommy! Isn't that great, Carmain?" Carmain quickly ran towards the door to the next room, but they were locked. When he turned around, the Unitologist and Adaline were already gone. Carmain was rushing. He quickly crossed the dark corridor and was heading towards the exit when he heard someone shouting outside. "Ada! AAAAADAAA?! ADALINE!!! ADDY?!?!!" He immediately recognized the person who was shouting - it was Alexis. The door opened and Carmain saw her. It seemed that Alexis was hurt. "Alexis!" Carmain started walking towards her. "I'm glad to see you! I couldn't con--" Carmain saw how Alexis expression changed. It looked liked she'd seen a ghost. "CARMAIN! BEHIND YOU!" Carmain reacted fast, but not fast enough. Just as he turned arround and was about to shoot, a sharp pain pierced his left shoulder. A grotesque creature, with sword-like objects coming out of its arms, stabbed Carmain's shoulder and knocked him down. Carmain had to drop his gun to grab another monster's arm to avoid being stabbed again. The pain was was draining Carmain's strenght. It was only a matter of seconds before he lose his life. |

The elevator door opened up to a man collapsing and Matthew immediately raised his weapon, forgetting about the pain in his shoulder for the moment. He wasn't sure if the man was alive at first. The monster-demon-things were probably intelligent enough to pull it as a trap. Surely enough, the man turned out to be breathing. He was alive, at least for now. Having dragged the man in and grabbed the crutches, Matthew closed the elevator door. While the elevator resumed the short course to it's destination. In the meantime, he checked the man for vitals and wounds on his body. Other than a gash on his leg, the man seemed fine. However Matthew was far from an expert in how the human body works so it's like he'd be able to see if something more subtle was wrong. He pulled up a map on his rig, he could see what was blocked and what wasn't. Right now he was a floor up from the girl, the elevator didn't go to he level but there was a route he could take down. The door pinged open and the lights found it to be a glorious moment to just shut off. Sighing he decided to send the girl another text log I'm getting closer now. I'm a sub-level above you. It's an old maintenance level so the should be a lift somewhere but I've found a man, he's not awake so that'll slow me down. Also, the power is out so I'm going to have to replace a local power unit before the lift will move. Can you make your way towards the lift? Don't put yourself in any unneseccary danger though. oh, right, I'm not bleeding and I don't feel infected. It still hurts to use my arm though. He sent the log and grabbed the man, slinging him over his right shoulder. He cautiously stepped out and slowly made his way over to the lift. It helped that all the doors had been stuck open by the surge otherwise he'd have a much harder time getting around. He arrived at the power cell, and it looked grim. The unit was completely dead meaning he'd have to go fetch one. He set the man down against the wall and pulled the unit out and it dropped to the floor with a loud bang. 'these things are rediculously heavy' he thought and went to go grab the unit on the shelf. He struggled a little but he managed to slide it in and with a clunk the lights came on. He picked the man up again and headed over to the lift. |

The vents in the hall exploded, filled with shrieks and laughs as pale, figures emerged from every direction. Paige felt slow compared to these newest atrocities, at least eight or nine had already swarmed into the hall. She felt bits of shrapnel patter harmlessly off her back, and a small pair of clawed white hands wrap around her neck. A small, almost greedy squeal of joy emenated from her left, as the child beast bit into her shoulder. The hall funneled them, which made firing into their ever shifting mass easier. She fired the tissue laser from the hip, her other arm flailing at the monster on her back, almost every shot downed one, thinning them faster, and thusly causing her to miss a little more often. One came from the left, where it was harder to aim, and raked its claw up her left leg, before clinging on attempting to bite through her armor as well. By some miracle, she had managed to put down the majority before they got to close. She felt strangely okay with the pile of bodies in an almost neat line down the hall. One still remained, coming down the hall in a low, loping run. The tissue laser's cahrge counter suddenly turned orange. The last free moving child jumped at her, both arms flailing wildly at her, its eyeless sockets galring at her from beyond death. She fell back, kicking out with the her free leg, and catching it in the chest. They were not very well built, for that feeble kick was enough to end its suffering. The kick threw her off balance, and she landed, almost sitting against the wall, crushing one of her her attackers. The one at her leg saw this oppurtunity, and attempted to crawl up to her face. She insticevely grabbed in with both arms, dropping her tissue laser and holding it at bay. She pushed it back as hard as she could, throwing it to the ground. She fiddled with her laser, her hands shaking too much to allow her a proper battery change. The child was up again, just as the battery finally slid into place, and with one accidentally well placed shot, severed its head from the rest. Paige had just killed 9 children. But she didn't feel the guilt she wanted to feel for it. Rising on shaky legs, she left the hall, finding the next elevator in the next room, and turning her communicator back on. She received another text log from Matthew immediatly, and prepared a response. "Matthew, I went down a floor to help another survivor. I am no longer on the top floor. I just came across your assiailants, nine of them. Nasty things. I should have stayed up there, I'm sorry. Where is the lift located?" She sent it and felt stupid for moving. She sat against the wall by the new elevator and reaching to the small packs on her waist, began to patch herself up. |
