I got my eyes on you.
What makes you join? What makes you stay? Let us know!

For me:
- The theme. I really can't stay active on a forum if I have no idea about the content (for example I couldn't be active at a car forum because I don't know much about cars).
- The skin/layout - You have to admit, it's always nice when the forum looks nice. It's much more appealing that way. I generally prefer lighter skins.
- The people. If everybody there is a jerk, I can't stay. The people need to be kind and welcoming.
- Active forum, for obvious reasons.

How about you?

In order:

1. What the website is about.
2. The People
3. Activity

I stopped liking Rare years ago, but the people on Rare-Extreme made me stay.

The skin can't bother my eyes when viewing it and the content has to be interesting to me. If both are there then I will give it a try to see if I like it or not.

The people and the discussions, but most of all, the level of strictness. I can't stand forums where you can get banned for minor swearing or spamming, and there are so many picky little rules about post content. That's why I love Dashing and Youchew.

Good point there. I can't stand it either. Some people make me think they enjoy banning people for inane rules then actually enjoying the community.

The relaxed place that doesn't have an insane amount of stupid rules is the best IMO. :D

I agree. I mean, I'm not a fan of swearing on forums, but I'm not totally against it. I think people should have the intelligence to only swear where appropriate.

Of course, you sometimes get the idiots that abuse laid back forums, but that's what the ban stick is for. =/ Though to be honest, I don't like banning people. It's only in extreme cases where I'd do that.

I am the same way as I really try to avoid banning people if I can. I try talking things out instead of just jumping to the warn tools if possible which is what works in resolving most every problem I came across.

That reminds me of No Homers Club. There was this Admin who I'd say would be the biggest Pig of all, I consider admins of forums being police, and the ones that abuse their powers are pigs. His username is Channel Surfer, and he warned me and eventually permanently banned me for the most stupid of reasons. If it wasn't for him I would still be posting their today. He warned me for stupid things such as telling a guy that I'm a little scared of his Reverend Lovejoy Obsession, and that I told a guy saying "Precisely, I don't NEED to post it, but I did anyway".

Seriously, Admins like that can get stuffed, I still lurk the forum every now and then and I see he isn't on as much as he used to, so maybe I should create another account their and just hide my identity.

Yeah, I joined No Homers and didn't stick around there for very long. Just wasn't the ideal forum for me. It still comes up as one of the first results if you Google 'fantanoice' though.

Edit: Actually, it no longer is one of the first results when fantanoice is Googled. I wonder how the other sites managed to get such epic page ranks. :P

I haven't tried searching the Fanta. Actually, I did look you up on Forumer one time and saw the huge list of forums you were a member of.

Forumer? Wow, I didn't join many forumer forums though. I joined Invisionfree forums more than anything.

Results 1 - 10 of about 5,890 for fantanoice. (0.19 seconds)

Top searched was Profile View at Nintendo Addict.

Anyways, for a mod, I feel I have a big responsibility to uphold our law and rules. Although I admit, I don't follow most of them.. Then again none of the rules contradict what i do anyways. So epic win for me. :D

Here are a four reasons for what I look for in a forum, in no particular order.

1) Active forum.
2) Great template/banner.
3) Nice welcoming members and staff.
4) A topic I am interested in.

The global rule of women you can choose on teh intarwebs:
There are three universal traits, but you can only choose two of them at all times.
1) Mentally / Emotional stable
2) Not ugly
3) Available
Choose two.
For those who got the epic quality significant others who had all three traits when you acquired them... Grats, you lucky bastard

I still have no idea why I post on Dashing... I hardly know anything about nintendo. Although I suppose it is easier now that it is more general.

An easy to browse layout, i hate forums with loads of subforums/empty areas.
Topics i can reply to or atleast interest me.
A good community of people.
Most important is probably an admin that cares...if the place looks empty/default forum skin then i won't join.
