Splitting the Games and Entertainment forums?

I got my eyes on you.
Well, the forums are starting to become a little more populated, so I'm thinking it may be time to expand some of our 'broad' forums into some subforums.

Entertain can be split into sections like movies, TV, music, etc, while the games forum can be split into Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.

Post your thoughts here. :) Also, try and give some reasons for your thoughts.

I basically think that the forums are getting more popular so they should be split up so that the sections don't become messy. They were put into the one forum simply because the forum was small and they needed to be populated before they were split up. That's why I'm picking the first option.

I say remove some of the boards and move the topics into others. There are way too many and I just feel lost sometimes.

Way to be really unclear. Which boards need to removed/merged and why?

I'm thinking the NES forum should be merged with perhaps Le Arts, or be made a subforum, considering only one post there really gets posts. Seems unnecessary to have a forum for it.

Entertainment
Add 'Movies' 'Television' 'Sports' subboards and leave the the rest in the mommy forum ED

Gaming
Leave as be. Its mostly general Gaming, they wouldn't be enough activity to split into three subboards. Plus, then where can I talk about other systems, like the Dreamcast and Ataris? (not that I do :P) Leave as be I say.

You'd talk about those in the 'mother' board (uses lingo from earlier in your post). xD

I don't think sport really gets that many posts here. Probably a movies/tv and music forum. They tend to get more posts, by the look of things.

I don't see the point in the Newbie Forum. I think that if members want to introduce themselves, they should reply in a thread.

And yes, NES forum should be merged with Le Arts.

I've personally always hated intro 'threads', but that may just be me.

I've found that a lot of the time new members like having a topic just for themselves. Makes them feel special, I guess. :P Or maybe it makes me feel special when I join up to a forum and other members don't really care. xD

I agree with Fants, lettting each newbie have their own topic is better than having a single thread. You know exactly when someone new has joined, because there is a new topic - rather thna seeing new posts within or topic, and not knowing whether its to greet a new member, or to continue a converation thats being had with the last new member etc...

But, perhaps you could create like a members forum, for the profile show-offs, the newbie introductions and other topics and poles that are 'about' members, such as the poles we have on genders and other personal characteristics.

I never really got why you created a whole forum for the NES, I totally agree that it should go into LeArts.

I agree with RichJohny a bit; there seems to be a lot of clutter with so many forumns in each category/heading thing. I think maybe you should try to limit the number of forums shown under each heading...
Perhaps if you knocked Games for the Bored and Spam into their own category, of "Just for Fun" or "Because we can" or something like that with a way better name than I just suggested...
... and then group Tech Talk, Le Arts and Drama Room together under the heading as being Hobby / Skill type forums.

My suggestion / proposal is:

Community Areas
---------------------
News N Shrews
Forum Feedback
Member Zone, (I suck at naming...) w newbie realm & profile subforums. (& maybe Asking topics, or are they too spammy?)

Discussion Places
----------------------
Chit Chat
Holla Back
Game Domain
Entertainment

Hobbies and Talents
----------------------
Le Arts
Drama Room (w. NES inside, pinned or subfourm...)
Tech Talk

Just for Fun
-----------------------
Games for the Bored
Power to the Pointless

And I realise I haven't answered the actual question you asked so; I think you should split entertainment, but leave games as is for now. There isn't enough console specific topics in Games to fill up subforums, and some games are available on a variety of consoles and members might like to discuss a certain game, could easily be independant of platform more often than not. But in entertainment there seems to be a lot of easily distinguishable topics; TV, Music, Movies that really don't have any crossover.

I think DS was the one who put NES into its own forum. Also, maybe you could put Game Domain as a subforum of Entertainment.

Anyway, your list was pretty good. How about this:

  • Community Areas
    • News 'n' Shrews
    • Forum Feedback
    • Newbie Realm
      • The Asking Forum
      • Profile Show-Offs
  • Discussion Places
    • Chit Chat
      • Contests and Polls
        • POTD Archive
    • Holla Back
    • Game Domain
    • Entertainment
      • Movies/TV
      • Music
  • Hobbies
    • Le Arts
      • NES Mk. II
        • The Official Dashing Never Ending Story
      • Drama Room
    • Tech Talk
  • Just for Fun
    • Games for the Bored
    • Power to the Pointless

Now that I think about it, Games for the Board, Hollaback and Power to the Pointless could all be subforums of Chit Chat. Hmm...

Looks like the second option is winning. Any last thoughts from people?

Looks good to me =D

I like the idea of making hollaback a subforum of chit chat, but I don't know about Power To the Pointless and Games For The Bored, they seem too spammy to me... Plus both don't contribute to post counts, and I think keeping them seperate makes that a little more clear, then if they are integrated randomly as sub forumns; along with other subforums from the same parent who do contribute to post count... I dunno though, lol I keep getting this weird "quarantine the spam!" thought in my mind XD And yeah, games as a subforum of entertainment sounds like an alright idea too in theory - but at the same time isn't Dashing supposed to be a gamer's forum? So the gaming section should kind of be a forum in itself...
