Matthew Dante Blaike ~2:55 a.m. June 6, 2012 | Lily and Floyd | 8 lbs 6 oz~ Matthew's due date was May 28th, 2012. However, the whole week passed with no sign of him taking any interest in leaving the safety of my womb for the outside world. So the doctor had me come into the hospital at 5 a.m. Monday, June 4th for an induced labor. They ran me on some drugs to try to coax my body into giving me birth, but more than two days passed and both drugs failed. After a while it looked like the latter drug, pertussin, might be yielding some results. I was dilated to the proper measurement and the contractions were becoming painful. My epidural was turned off so that I could push more effectively. I pushed for approaching three hours, but no progress was made, so my doctor offered to give me assistance. By that time my epidural had worn off just about entirely. I accepted his offer- however, with no pain medicine left in my system to help me cope with the pain, I was literally screaming. I am unusually sensitive to that type of pain- for me it's probably double that of an average woman. They gave me some more hits of epidural, but of course that takes time and accumulation to take effect and so was just about completely useless. I could tell the doctor was exasperated when he handed me the consent form to do a c section, but eh, whatever. They're the ones who let my epidural run down. I didn't like my doctors and nurses, suffice it to say. So they took me to the operating room. I ended up having to be put to sleep for the procedure. I didn't even notice the lapse in time or my decent into unconsciousness. The next thing I was aware of was being in a different room, having someone push on my stomach. I asked when the c section was going to begin. The nurses told me it had already happened, much to my surprise. They wheeled me out into the hall over to the nursery window where I saw Floyd standing next to the nurse holding my new baby boy. He was unhappy, having just had a bath. But I couldn't have been happier. They wheeled me back to my recovery room where I waited. After a bit, the door opened and they came inside. I held him for the first time. So sweet. So beautiful. So perfect. His wonderful angelic little eyes were closed in deep sleep, little miraculous breaths puffing up his tiny chest. Every breath he took solidified the fact that I had entered a new life. I had become a new person. Mom.
