A pair of booted feet landed softly on the hard, derelict ground. Where they touched, clouds of previously dormant dust rushed upwards into the air. These ventures were short-lived, as the dust quickly expanded and steeled back to its resting place. The man deposited from the portal stepped forward, his eyes surveying the arena in front of him. The most dominant features were the imposing walls that surrounded them; they were too tall to climb over, and allowed barely any light in. The large cathedral in the center was a close second. It took up quite a large portion, and Corem suspected that it would contain most of the fighting. If he could get there first, it would give him a significant advantage. His eyes turned then to his opponents. First, there was the man to his right. He bore only a sword, but it was possible that he knew some magic. The other remarkable thing about him was that he wore an eye patch. It was possible that he could see through it and that it was only there to distract opponents or throw them off; regardless, the best plan would be to attack form his ‘blind’ side and not hold back anything, just in case it really was a distraction. Next, the woman directly across from him. Her face was obscured by a helmet, and so she faced similar consequences as the swordsman; she would be unable to properly see her flanks, and so he’d attack from there. The sword that she brandished appeared to be an unremarkable longsword, but it was what she held in her other hand the worried him. A ball of crackling fire licked her fingers and snaked its way around her hand. She would be his first concern. That would also change his strategy; where he had planned on rushing the cathedral and taking the high ground, it had been partially constructed of wood. Instead of rushing the very flammable structure, he decided that he’d try to hug the walls’ shadows. He had an advantage there, and the woman would have nothing to set aflame. Corem began to circle to his left, his eyes never leaving the woman’s countenance. “I am Corem,” he stated. As he continued to work to his left, he hefted his hands in front of him. He made sure that they were open and relaxed, as that would allow him to respond to any attacks faster. He decided not to reveal his magic yet; they had no way of knowing if he could cast, and so he’d let them stay in the dark. |
