Okay, so to organize this better, I decided to spoilerize it with at least two sections.
Idea
Spoiler: click to toggle Okay, too tired to detail anything right now, so here's the basics for an idea of mine involving classes:
Examples:
Pyromancer Only Fire Magic and Arcane Magic Up to Fire Magic Tier 5 and Arcane Magic Tier 1 allowed
Hydromancer Only Water Magic and Arcane Magic Up to Water Magic Tier 5 and Arcane Magic Tier 1 allowed
Warrior All Fighter Abilities Up to Tier 3 of any Fighter Abilities allowed
Berserker Only Offensive Fighter Abilities Up to Offensive Fighter Abilities Tier 5
Jack of All Trades All Magic and All Fighter Abilities Up to Tier 1 of any Magic and up to tier 1 of any Fighter Abilities allowed
I think you'd get the idea. It's simple while complex, but I like it. Will go into it more after I sleeeeeeeeep.
So, looking back... I noticed how poorly designed this idea is. It's just me tossin' down some simple thoughts in a confusing way. Let me see if I can learn you this rightly.
The shops hold a major factor in this. There will be TIERS or CATEGORIES or GROUPS or LEVELS or WHATEVER of Magic and Abilities. Abilities would be the physical/natural... abilities of people. Yes, that's right. I used the name of the things to describe them. To be honest I think it explains it well enough. Anyways, moving on. Magic would be just as the name says. Magic. Spells, powers, you get the idea.
Now, these tiers/categories/groups/levels/whatever will be just as they seem. They are stages of power of the capabilities. Allow me to paint you a picture!
FIRE. I love fire. So I will use it for this specific example. FWOOSH.
Tier 1 example. Burning Hands. Hands heat up, small film of fire cover them, and shazam, they hurt those they touch. Good for cauterizing wounds, I'd say. I think I used the right word there... I'll look it up later. MOVING ON!
Tier 2 example. Orb of Fire. Simple orb formed. Not big, really, just like a baseball or softball. Good for ranged fiyah fights, fo' shizzle.
Tier 3 example. Fan of Fire. Thing Burning Hands, only in a cone in front of the caster. Hands light up, then shoot out like this: \/. Fwoosh.
Tier 4 example. Fireball. Awesome fiyah indeeed. Think Orb of Fire. On a much larger scale. Bowling balls aren't even the size of this thing. I can't think of any commonly used orb that'd fit this. It's big. That is all. And it hurts. Like bad. Hehe.
Tier 5 example. Dragon's Breath: Fire. Yes, I specified the type of breath. Why? Cause if I just said Dragon's Breath it could be ice, acid, sonic, fire, lightning, flesh melting cloud, chaos, etc. etc. etc. To put it simply, there are far too many types of Dragons who breath far too many types of breaths for me to leave it simply as Dragon's Breath. Yes, hint hint there will be other Dragon's Breath spells.
The idea is that each time you go up a Tier, the spells cost more, but they're more powerful. Some of these tiers are inaccessible to those who have not chosen a specific element/whatever because of the level of power it takes to cast them. Think of it this way: A mage spends his life learning to just cast spells. Whatever fits his needs, y'know? But then a pyromancer spends her life learning to cast and control the element of FIRE only. This means the capability for fire power is higher for the pyromancer than the mage, but the mage has the ability to cast a larger variety of spells.
So I guess sleep does help... Huh, who'da thunk it.
Classes(In Progress)
Spoiler: click to toggle Alrighty. So I don't really know what classes should be allowed just yet... And before anyone bitches, these aren't gonna be set in stone, merely examples. Of course, each class has to be approved so that people don't toss out the most overpowered little shits imaginable....... But anyways... Here is where I'll place, scratch off, and burn names of class possibilities.
Warrior Your basic melee fighting class, the Warrior excels in basic combat, involving any sort of weapon they may desire.
Magician Where there is magic, there must be a magic weaver. The Magician is the basic caster class, excelling in basic magic/casting.
Scout The Scout is the basic class of ranged combat, wielding any sort of ranged weaponry to their advantage.
Monk When violence rises, a healer is usually nearby. The Monk is the basic healer class, using their divine powers to close wounds and the like.
Martial Not all use magic or held weapons to their advantage. The Martial is the fighting class that uses their body as their weapon in combat.
