![]() St. Andrew's Cathedral Renovations Complete: Father Bacab Freeman, a priest at St. Andrew's seminary, told reporters from the Uaxatan Daily that the Cathedral renovations have neared completion after four months, and will be unveiled for Friday mass. The Cathedral dates back to 1650 around the pyre of St. Serena, who was speared by aboriginal pagans when on a missionary tour of the great forest. It was establish by St. Ix Chebel, the first Mayan saint, whose efforts spread the faith to the Mayan people en masse. The renovations were extensive, and including maintenance on the masonry in the foundations of the cathedral, which had begun to sink into the mud, lowering the height of the cathedral by eleven inches over the last ten years. In addition, the fresco of Mayan artist Hunab Ku depicting the burning is being retouched by experts. The fresco, the largest on the continent, details the last minutes of St. Serena, and is drawn in a style unique to the Australmarian rainforest. St. Andrew's Parish in Uaxatan is home to 12,000, which have, for the last four months, been forced into neighboring parishes to attend mass. It will come as a great relief to the diocese that the great overcrowding concerns will soon be behind them. In other news, automobile investment by Ealdcaester has paid off with the opening of several factories on the north shore. A local SEAT dealership will sell cars to Uaxatan in the coming days, the first time many families here will have access to vehicles. Local representative to the National Assembly, socialist Michael Ghanan, gave a speech to workers at the Cottonworks factory about worker solidarity. The workers have been threatening to strike if wages are not raised to the national average. It is currently 60% low the national median wage. Ghanan has been campaigning in the National Assembly to force Cottonworks to raise the wages it pays Mayan workers across the country, all of which earn an average of 22% lower than Gaels in similar factories. Workers in Bompak walked out an hour early yesterday in a major action against the company that got the local National Militia activated. 30 armed men kept the peace today, which went normally. Transcontinental Rail closed again, following a flooding of a section of track along the Majestic River. Service will open Wednesday. This is the sixth time in May the line has closed, a record monthly high. |

![]() Rumors: Last Term for Alban Ó Cairre? Local government officials spoke to Daily reporters about the abrupt interruption of a general meeting of several leaders of outlying towns in the Uaxatan region parishes, in which a document was unearthed that indicate a potential change of power in the Integralist Party. The documents are of several vehicle requisition forms filed on behalf of Ó Cairre over the last few months. It is known that Ó Cairre visited the St. Albert Seminary near Ealdcaester twice last month, but the documents indicate that at least a dozen trips occurred. The documents were received by the Uaxatan City Office by mistake - they had been addressed to the local accounting center operated by the Ministry of Finance. Ó Cairre has long announced that he would eventually depart from politics to resume his calling as a priest in service of the Lord, his youthful ambition. "I feel empty," he said in 1934, "I feel like I abandoned him. I don't want that. I will one day return to Him." He later would confirm that he would retire by 1950 to continue his theological pursuits. His increased interest, however, is indicative that perhaps that time may be here sooner than believed. Socialist Party organizer Andran Maculeh says that there is increased rumors of a potential change of power in political circles. They say that Ó Cairre has begun spending increased time with his cabinet members, perhaps grooming an heir, and is preparing legislation on the process for peaceful power transition, reforming earlier laws dating back to 1920. Representatives of the national government, however, have refused to recognize the rumors as legitimate. Minister Sutherland, on the phone with Daily reporters: "While there is an eventual plan for Alban's retirement, of which these reforms are but a first part, there is nothing to indicate that Alban will not choose to serve another term before that time comes." |

![]() Exclusive Interview with Kalan Ah Uuc Ticab, Hero of Mayan Football Our journalists secured an interview with Kalan Ah Uuc Ticab as he left the pitch. Congratulations on your goal. You secured passage for the Mayan team to the quarter-finals. How do you feel? I feel great. Just great. I'm glad we got through, though it was a team effort. If I hadn't been crossed the ball, I would not have been able to head it in. We all worked hard to get the ball where it needed to be. How do you feel on the pitch? Is it difficult to compete at your age? I feel fine. I am fit. I may be 36, but don't count me out yet. I was thinking of retirement, but my recent performance has made me rethink that. I think I have another year with Central. You were the only Mayan player offered a seat on the national team. Why didn't you take it? I would prefer... I think... The Mayan people need a role model. I did not want to play for the white team, and it is a white team. I wanted to work with my people, and give my people a victory. We deserve as much. Few gave you any credit. They predicted first round defeat for your team. Do you have anything to say to them? *laughs* Hopefully they didn't lose too much at the betting office. I think we can go all the way. Hopefully. Thank you for your time. Rest! You've earned that much! |
