Show Title: Salem Days
Character/Actor: Stephanie Johnson (Shelley Hennig)
Scene: MAY 5, 2008: EPISODE #27-Stephanie breaks up with Max.

On the pier, Stephanie paces back and forth while waiting for Max, wondering how she is going to tell him what she is about to tell him. Max soon arrives, walks up to her, and tries to kiss her. She pulls away and Max says he knows something has been going on lately and he wants to know what he did wrong. Stephanie says he did nothing wrong. Neither of them did. What happened just happened. Max is confused and asks what she is talking about. Stephanie says they need to talk...she thinks they both made a mistake.

Max tells Stephanie he's noticed something wrong since the epidemic. Stephanie tells him about what happened with Sami and her conversations with her parents, Caroline, Chelsea, and Nick that followed. She tells Max she thinks everything they went through and all the emotions that went along with it got the best of both of them. They both were blinded and she thinks what they have isn't what they think it is. Stephanie tells Max she feels like they aren't a couple. She feels like they are just two people together because it makes them both feel better. It gave them both something stable through the bad times. Plus, the family thing really bothers her now after thinking about it more.

Max mentions that it never bothered her before but Stephanie notes that it was never commented on by a family member before. Sami is family and she questioned it. Not in a harsh way but in a way that was thought-provoking. Max asks why she never came to him and talked about any of this to him. Stephanie says she wanted to be sure and after talking with friends and family it now seems right. Max laughs and says she talked to the same people he calls friends and family. Stephanie notes how awkward that is. Not the friends part but the family part. It's going to come into play more and more. She then emphasizes that isn't the main reason why she thinks they need to part ways. She thinks what they have is just the easy way out. It's comfortable and it's nothing but a crutch and a manifestation of being vulnerable and emotions running high. It's time to end things before they hurt each other far worse and she feels that would be inevitable. She just doesn't think it would work.

Max thinks for a minute and admits she makes sense but he feels like he has been hit with a ton of bricks. Stephanie asks if that means he doesn't want to breakup. He asks if this is what she truly wants and what she feels is truly right. She nods, saying she's thought about it and she feels it's best. No one is forcing her to make this decision. It's what her heart is telling her to do. It just feels like the right way to go. Max shakes his head and admits this is hard. Stephanie nods and says it will be hard to start but it will get easier. It's much easier to end it now then it would be later anyway.

Max looks at Stephanie and says he cares about her. Alot. He would do anything for her so, if this is what she wants, then he will go with it. He admits he isn't sure he agrees with her but maybe in time he will. He just hopes they can stay close. Stephanie smiles and agrees, saying they are family technically so she doesn't see it being an issue after awhile. Max smiles and says it seems like there is nothing else left now but to part ways officially. Max holds out his hand but Stephanie embraces him and kisses him on the cheek. She then says "Friends." Things then turn awkward as Max says he will see her around then. Stephanie nods, thanking him for everything he did. He really helped her through alot and she will be forever grateful. Max thanks her too, saying it was a fun ride. Stephanie smiles and says it was. Max gives her a half-smile before walking off. Once alone, tears well up in Stephanie's eyes and she then breaks down.
