What makes good music good?

Quick couple things I want to say about music as a whole. But first to answer your question, what makes good music? Opinion, what makes bad music? Opinion. Music isn't a science and the only thing close to a science you can bring it down to is harmonies and scales but then you have some music like Jazz, which can also play heavily on dissonance and still create something wonderful, so even then it's hard to say.

Music though, I feel is something purely universal and I cannot call any music but country music(Do to lack of depth musically and lyrically, I can take one or the other but not both.) and most of Rap, which is just vulgar poetry with a third grade beat thrown in and a couple of ripped,or, as they would say, sampled songs and isn't anything decent or original in most cases. I also believe though, that people should attempt to enjoy the variety of music out there. My iPod contains so many different styles I'm sure everyone on here could pick out at least one song they like, and that if I played some personal favorites, most of you would have a couple more you liked. I've got everything from World music to a bit of Techno, Jazz, Rock, Light Pop, Blues, Funk and Opera. With my recent obsessions being Sonic Youth, wall of noise with harmonies hidden behind the white noise and then I Pagliacci an Italian Opera that some of you may recognize a Simpson's spoof of when the Simpsons go to Italy.

To conclude, I feel that Music is completely universal and that different types just fit different moods or occasions and that the worst thing you can do with music is stay to specifically one genre and one band, limiting the experience.

Sure I can, new rap sucks, in my opinion. As does Country music, in my opinion. Thus I don't consider either music : P

u_u that's better Drummer, now that you've qualified it by "opinion" and "I consider". Before you said it as if it was a "universal truth" (though they don't exist)
