The Racin hidden in the Azure Flames
|
(Yeah, my English class is reading MacBeth so I got the title from Shakespear.) Jake stumbled from the Ra dorms into the forest. He tripped a few times, cutting his right arm a little as he still seemed unphased by the pain. He kept going, wondering if it was really a good idea to keep living. With everything now seeming to crumble around him, he just thought his heart couldn't take any more bad news. After walking only a little ways more, he found his jacket lying on the ground. Jake picked it up, but stared at the ground, lost in his own thoughts. |

[From: Room 208, Osiris Dorm] Little Miss Sky was enjoying herself immensely. Being alone, being safe... secure in such beauty around her. It was nice. Tremendously peaceful. She couldn't see much of the moon or stars, but the cool twilight air... it was ever so relaxing. She paused, closing her eyes. Simply... wonderful. She leaned back against a sturdy tree. Here she could have her peace. Except someone was coming. Loudly. She turned towards its direction. A sudden fear gripped her. She stood frozen. She could follow the path back-- she hadn't strayed far from it-- if she could move, that was. Something came closer. The rustling of leaves and branches grew louder. Something was steadily approaching. But it stopped. A few moments passed. She took a breath. She took another. Silence. Something had stopped nearby. Her foot slid cautiously forward. She took a step. Another. Carefully, she peered around a tree to see what was there on the other side. |

"Why am I here? What do I have to offer to the world? Why are people persistent on helping me?" Jake asked out loud, thinking he was here alone. Then, he suddenly dropped his jacket again as he dropped to one knee, feeling a sharp pain in his ribs. He had one had on his jacket on the ground while the other was gripping at his chest. "Why do I have to suffer from this!? What have I ever done!?" Jake yelled to himself in his head. Just then out of the corner of Jake's eye, he saw something a little darker than the darkness seeming to come out of a tree. "So, have you come to finish what you started?" he asked, not knowing if it was human. But if it was, he was sure it was one of the bullies from before that attacked him. |

It... was an Osiris student. He seemed to be hurt. He was talking to himself. She could hear what he was saying clearly in the stillness of the forest. Suddenly, he dropped the jacket he was holding and collapsed to the ground. She wanted to go help him, but... what could she do? He looked her way. "So, have you come to finish what you started?" She drew back quickly. He'd seen her. But... he was hurt. She should do something for him, right? She took a breath and stepped to the side. She left one hand on the tree, feeling its strength. The foliage and the darkness still hid her somewhat, leaving a small layer of protection. But at least the boy would see that she wasn't going to be a threat to him. Hopefully. |

Jake continued to look at the figure as it seemed to move out from the tree. Jake slowly stood up and was ready to defend himself... somewhat. He still kept his hand clutched to his ribs, which left him only one arm for defense. And since his actions would be considerably slowed, he doubted he could have done much. However, this figure... was different. Instead of a manly figure... it seemed to be smaller, actually, it looked to be innocent. One thing that stuck out to Jake was the fact that it kept a hand on the tree. "Who is this?" Jake wondered to himself as he fell back to one knee, losing the energy he had built up before. "W...Who are you? What do you want?" Jake asked the person, still with a strong tone of pain. He was hoping it would be somebody to help him, not being sure if he could find his way back to the dorms all on his own. |

She froze again. A moment later, she regained her composure. "I--I'm Sky. I-- I heard you and--" Her mind had already leapt well beyond the sentence she was trying to finish. So many thoughts and fears all at once. She pushed her hand against the tree a little bit harder, trying to focus. The storm in her mind began to subside. She blinked and breathed again. "A-are you okay?" |

Jake listened on as his suspicions from a few minutes ago were true. This person was not a short male, but a female. Jake listened on as he tried to figure out from her voice if she was a friendly person or one that was just a distraction for the ones to jump him again. He kept a sharp ear to his surroundings to hear perhaps a twig snap or a leaf crumple under the weight of somebody. But before the girl spoke again, nothing else could be heard. "Can I really trust her? I can't even see her too well." Jake thought to himself as he continued to look at the silhouette of the girl in the darkness. As the girl finished talking, Jake began to register everything. "Could somebody with an innocent name like Sky be with a group of bullies? Plus.. she sounds.. scared?" Jake asked himself as he decided to speak up. "My name is Jake. I will be fine but... are you okay? You sound scared. Are you afraid of the dark?" Jake asked, completely oblivious to what she was really scared at, him. |

"N-no! ...not really...." She stared through the darkness at the boy. He had dropped to one knee, and he held his side. The jacket lay on the bluish grass. The only thing she could hear was the suppressed sound of pain every time he tried to move. "You... don't look fine...." With great effort, she took a step forward into the moonlight. Her hand slipped away from the tree. |

"She is not afraid of the dark? Then why does she sound that way?" Jake wondered as he turned his face to the ground as a hard pain came in his ribs for a second. He grunted from the pain as he held his chest harder. After a minute, the pain began to go away as he figured he would look back at the girl as he heard her say something else. "I..I know I probably look like crap. I.. I don't really know if I am fine." Jake admitted to her as he finally was able to see what she looked like. From seeing her, he concluded there was no way she was connected with the ones that attacked him before. "But.. what are you doing out in the dark in the forest? Shouldn't you be at the dorms getting something to eat?" Jake asked her, beginning to put her safety first, remembering that a bear was still possibly in this very forest. |

She took a half-step backward when he moved. Her eyes did not move; they were still fixed on him, half filled with concern, half filled with fear. "I-- already ate." She took a half-step forward again, knowing in her heart that she should help this fellow student. But she felt so powerless and afraid. What could she do? She didn't know anything about how to help someone who was hurt. She looked closer at him. She didn't know anything about how to help someone who was that hurt. She froze again. How did that happen to him? How could it? This was supposed to be a good, safe place to be! |
