Greetings! Welcome to Crimson Wind Academy!

This forum site is primarily a role-playing message board based on said fictitious academy. Its purpose is to mold and train aspiring duelists in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, known as "Duel Monsters."

Upon your arrival to this forum, you should register for an account. The next step to begin RPing would be to request and take the Entrance Exam, and then set up a character profile. Though you may just register an account, it is strongly encouraged that you take, or skip, the exam and create a profile, should you wish to start role playing.

The following is a series of rules relating to different aspects of the site. Please read them and do your best to abide by these rules to avoid potential conflicts.

______________________________________________________________

On the Subject of Accounts
Since it needs spelling out:
Simply put, each user is permitted to have only one user account; no duplicate accounts. Heavy punishment is dealt to a user who is found to have more than one account.

______________________________________________________________

On the Subject of the Entrance Exam
The Crimson Wind Academy Entrance Exam is merely to test your card knowledge and skills in deck building in order to assign you into a proper rank based on those.
To apply for the Entrance Exam, PM an Admin or a Moderator and he/she will send you a randomized exam for you to take. Submit via PM and await your score.

Rules

1) Only PM your exam answers once, not multiple times.

2) Do not send any personal messages (PMs) asking why your exam hasn't been graded, unless it has been over seventy-two (72) hours after submission, as tests grades are discussed and decided on by the staff as a whole.

3) Do not cheat on your exam. This includes having someone else do your exam, plagarism, netdecking a deck, etc, etc. If you are caught cheating, your whole test will receive an automatic zero with no opportunity for a re-take.

4) You may choose to skip the exam. If you do so, you will then be placed in the lowest rank, Sebek Green (they sleep in tents :o!).

5) Explain each of your exam answers to the fullest extent if you want the maximum amount of credit.

6) You have a maximum of three tries to get more than 40% on the Entrance Exam.
(If you fail to, the first time, you will get two chances to re-take it, if you wish to.)

7) Once you have scored over 40% on the exam, or are already in a ranking dorm, you may not take the Entrance Exam again (You must wait 2 IRL months after an exam before an Advancement Exam can be taken/re-taken).

8) You must comply with the rules of the most recent TCG ban list. The use of Animé, Manga, fake, or OCG-only cards is acceptable only under mutual agreement with the opponent.

9) The following will show the required percentage scores needed to obtain one of the following four ranks:
Sebek Green -- 0-40%
Osiris Red -- 41-69%
Ra Yellow -- 70-89%
Obelisk Blue -- 90-100%

*Decimal values are to be rounded to the nearest whole number.
**When you receive your ranking, you can choose to select any rank upto, and including, your awarded rank, for all characters you create.
Ex. Austin scores 78% - Austin can choose Sebek Green, Osiris Red, or Ra Yellow as his primary character's rank.
- Austin chooses Osiris Red for his primary character (Austin's username color is affected by his primary character's rank).
- Later, Austin creates a 2nd character. He chooses to place that chara in Ra Yellow. Thanks to his maximum score on the exam, he can do that.

10) If you want to try for extra credit, Extra Credit Duels must be requested for, along with the exam request. Only in this way will you receive an Extra Credit Duel.
For the extra credit duel, the examinee must use a version of his/her character's deck. The proctor can use any deck of his/her choice (including those not listed below).

Select 2 of the following deck types that you do NOT wish to duel against:

Blackwings
Lightsworn
Gladiator Beasts
Dark Armed Dragon
Monarchs
Six Samurai
Zombies
Gadgets
OTHER: ___________________
("OTHER" can replace any deck theme listed, so your 2 deck choices can be 2 "OTHERs")

Extra Credit Rubric:
Deck Functionality: /5
Decision Quality: /5

11) For the Extra Credit Duels, the use of Animé, Manga, fake, or OCG-only cards is acceptable only under mutual agreement with the opponent.

*The extra credit points will be added to your exam score, bumping up your percentage, regardless.

_____________________________________________________________

On the Subject of Advancement
Advancement Exams are essentially comprised of a short essay, accompanied by a single duel, using your character's deck. Advancement Exams can be taken by a ranked member only once every 2 IRL months (as far as the RP is concerned, that's no time at all).
Grading will also be harsher than with the Entrance Exam.
To apply for the advancement exam, contact a Global Moderator or the Admin using the same procedure as with the "Entrance Exam."

Advancement Exam Grading:

Short Essay - 75%
Duel Portion - 25%

Short Essay Rubric: ( /75)
Knowledge of Subject: X/25
Quality of Essay: X/25
Description of Examples: X/15
Spelling and Grammar: X/10 (1-point deduction per error - no negatives)

Duel Rubric: ( /25)
Description of Deck Theme (thoroughly explain how your deck functions and what everything in it is meant to do or be used for. Use as much detail as possible. Include the mentioning of your Ace Card <-- That stays): X/5
Deck Functionality (how well the deck accomplishes its goals, above - not how well it wins): X/5
Decision Quality (as judged by the proctor based on what he/she can see): X/10
Duel Victory: X/5 (Auto-5 or auto-0)
^ *If examinee victory was stopped and reversed [proctor wins] in any one turn, they get a 3/5

(Example of "Reversal Loss"
Student LP = 2800 (no monsters on field)
Proctor LP = 1250 (2 face-up monsters; 1 face-down support)

Student's turn
"Lightning Vortex" eliminates all monsters (being face-up) on Proctor's field.
Activates "Reasoning" -- Proctor calls "4" -- Student Special Summons "Majestic Mech - Goryu" [ATK 2900]
Student attacks directly with Goryu to attempt to win the duel
Proctor activates Magic Cylinder, and with no response, the Proctor wins the duel on the turn that he/she would have otherwise lost.)

=====================

For the Short Essay, you will be given a topic on which to base it. For a chance at full marks, aside from what's mentioned above, be sure to structure your essay and give as much information as you believe is relevant,

For the Duel portion, the proctor can use any deck (or version of [ex. inclusion of Synchros]) of his/her choice (including those not listed below). Select 2 of the following deck types that you do NOT wish to duel against:

Gladiator Beasts
Dark Armed Dragon
Lightsworn
Monarchs
Zombies
Six Samurai
Gadgets
OTHER:
___________________

You must comply with the rules of the current TCG ban list. The use of animé, manga, fake, or currently OCG-only cards is acceptable only under mutual agreement with the opponent.

Rank Results
The following will show the required percentage scores needed to obtain one of the following four ranks:
Sebek Green -- 0-49%
Osiris Red -- 50-74%
Ra Yellow -- 75-89%
Obelisk Blue -- 90-100%

*Decimal values are to be rounded to the nearest whole number.
**If you receive a score that is below your current rank's percentage range, you will be demoted. Basically, you get the rank based on your score. The higher ranked you currently are, the harder it will be to maintain your position. Keep all this in mind.

EDIT:
Added note, which has been brought to my attention:

When you apply for your Advancement Exam, and your proctor sends you the topics, you can look them over, and you DO NOT HAVE TO do any of them. Also, you will not automatically fail for not doing it.

However. Since the topics for the exam have been sent to you, you must wait the length of 2 IRL months to get another request (in the case that we create more topics within that time). The 2-month wait is based on the more recent of the following two actions: the essay receival date (when you get the topics [if you choose not to do them]), or the essay submission date (when you submit your essay [if you do choose to do it]).
With the possibility that we create more topics after you've been given what we had at the time, you cannot break your 2-month wait and ask another Moderator or Admin for topics - it will not work, as we are keeping track of everyone's topic receival and submission dates.

Rulings on this may change in the future. If it does, everyone will be notified in this thread.

Advancement Exam Time Limit: 2 months (IRL)

On the Subject of the Role Playing Profile

1) Fill out the profile to the best of your abilities. Feel free to write about odd quirks, character flaws, and whatnot.

2) Canon characters will not be accepted. Also, in no manner whatsoever are you allowed to be related to any of the canons or any "famous duelist(s)."

3) Be sure to include as much information about your character as you can. Also, please be logical in areas such as your character's biography.
(For example, it wouldn't make logical sense for your character to be raised in an average life, yet inexplicably have an underwater secret base where he monitors the entire school....)

4) Please keep any images used in your profile at a PG-level. (General rule of thumb: if you wouldn't show the picture to your grandma, don't show it to us here.) If it is of a higher rating (and you know it), send it to a staff member to have them discuss it with the rest of the staff to consider disclaimered approval.

5) You may create a "second character" profile, which would share the same account as your primary. However, posting a second character profile is not a guarantee that you will get a second profile, as it could still be rejected by an admin or moderator. The second character's rank must be within the range of Sebek Green and your highest-achieved grade.
Throughout the course of Crimson Wind Academy, there will be times when "Bonus Characters" are required for storyline purposes. All "Bonus Characters" are always treated as such, in that, for example, if you only have 1 character, and you gain a "bonus character" as your second character, you can still create your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th characters that you are currently entitled to.

As eluded to, above, in the interest of increasing activity and providing further freedom to our members, it has been decided that the total number of characters allowed shall be increased from two to four. However...this is only under the stipulation that those who opt for them can handle the responsibility without stretching themselves too thin.

Should you wind up repeatedly holding up the RP WITHOUT a viable explanation (This includes family emergencies, unforeseen issues with school and work, etc...), the staff retains the right to take away your multi-character priviledges. You have been warned.

Example for Visual Learners:

<First Character> Amy Bosch
<Second Character> ___(not yet made)____
<Third Character> ___(not yet made)____
<Fourth Character> ___(not yet made)____
<Bonus Character> Pro Duelist

6) Please, do not God Mod in your profile, unless your character's a villain. No over-the-top superpowers or anything of that sort. Furthermore, should such a character be approved, it is under the condition that there will be no God Modding of any sort against another member's character or their possessions. If the person you want to teleport/explode/kill with fire doesn't want that to happen...it doesn't happen, mkay?

EDIT:
Regarding Profiles (and other things):

First order of business: "1337 Hax"

By the beginning of the next subplot, June 1st, most, if not all, of these little special powers must be eliminated of from the main RP.

Again, note that this is only for the main RP. If you feel like using them in fics or in "CWA Roleplay," feel free to screw around however you wish, there ["CWA Roleplay" section is found in "Off-Topic"].

These include:

- The dark powers contained within Allison.
- The dark powers contained within Allison's hair ribbon.
- The whatever JeY has contained within JeY. (inb4 [something]. I know what he has, I just don't wanna spoil it.)
- The duel spirit contained within Danielle or Billie or something. idk.
- The duel spirit contained within Rounin
- The Amazonesses
- Silent Magician LV 4, LV 8, or any other stupid loophole.
- Anything we may have forgotten in this list, and the one that comes after it.

Borderline
These are pretty much paranormal-ish conspiracies on the island, who can stay as they don't seem to attract too much attention to themselves; as long as they keep on keeping on, they should be able to stay out of trouble with the staff:
- Parfaye and Mint. (Borderline because their characters were already approved, and don't seem to, like... do anything of major consequence, other than the fact that they're real duel monsters)
- Xen's rings. (They're only like... symbols or whatever right? <_<
- Godwin Twins. (Eh, they're borderline. As long as they don't up the ante in some exponential way, they're fine.)
- Lawrence. (He time traveled once.)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: So does this mean CWA will never ever ever have any paranormal evil villain or occurance?
A:
Short answer: No
Long answer: Noooooooooooooooo

... But since that's still kind of vaguely worded, let me explain, and bold it, since it's the whole entire crux of this argument, and the tl;dr version of this section.

The staff does not disapprove of "1337 hax," but rather disapproves of people declaring they have 1337 hax while only running it by one or two people on the staff.

---

Which brings us to the second point! A way of allowing people to have 1337 hax, whilst also allowing staff to have a say in it.

Character Updating:

Starting (with the inclusion of) June 1st, 2009, after every plotline, you must update your character, in a new topic, if you wish to continue RP-ing with that specific character.
If your character feels differently about things, that's cool. Character development is normal.
If your character feels the same, that's cool too. A strong character with a strong sense of morals.

Frequently Asked Question

Q: But what if my character is already perfect, and I want to keep him exactly as is?
A: Copy/paste the profile into a new topic and repost it. Maybe add a note in the title saying it's the same just so the mods know all they need to do is approve it. At the very least though, I'm sure you can add an extra sentence or two for the history section. <_<

If something major happens to your character (including, but not limited to; broken [bones], pregnancy, and... being infested with whatever dark, evil villain powers of the week that are needed to further a plotline <_<), then a new profile MUST be made as well. (We'll let you decide just what "major" means, but you all seem smart enough to figure that one out on your own.)

Frequently Asked Question

Q: Making a new profile every time and waiting for a mod sounds tedious. Can I just edit my character's already approved profile?
A: No, because an addition to the character's profile may not be approvable.

And one last thing! Please, no loopholes in profiles. If we approve a character who claims to have "smooth vanilla skin, soft chocolate eyes and silky honey-like hair", we'd appreciate it she wasn't literally made of candy. We're not gonna outright ban flowery speech like that from profiles, but don't try to twist words around just so you can end up having a character with 1337 godmodding hax, especially when you can just ASK for 1337 god modding hax, and see if the staff agree that you can have it.

That's not to say we're gonna be totalitarian Nazi's about this mind you. Merely going to scrutinize more and maintain a more appreciable level of realism. Each character profile will be dealt with separately, as well. In this case, what I mean is: if one character is allowed a "Level 3 (mid-level) Hax" (don't read into that, just made it up for explanation's sake), that does not mean we will allow another character to have a "Level 1 (low-level) Hax."

_________________________________________________________

On the Subject of Role Playing

1) God-modding is not allowed. For those that do not know, "God-Modding," in the context of Role Playing, is when a character has the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. This point can be argued, however if several people are accusing you of God-Modding... odds are, you're doing it. An example is when they simply cannot be harmed by any and all means other RP-ers try.

-It can be killing or injuring a character without the player's express permission.
-It can be when they simply can’t be hit and dodge all attacks or anything for this matter aimed at them.
-It can also be using other characters that other people RP with. In other words, if you do not 'legally' RP as Legolas, you cannot have Legolas say or do anything, without the player's express permission.

The absolute worst is when they make out another character to be what they’re not, just to make their own character seem superior. They make others seem weak, screaming for help, when they’ve made it quite clear about their advantages and strengths. This is called power-play. It’s a strain of God-Modding, but instead of just being irritating, it’s offensive to boot.

This is a prime example of God Modding:

Player A: Punches Player B
Player B: Dodges attack, grabs Player A and throws him. Player A flies at Player B, who warps behind him and slashes Player A in the back.

B. God Modding

The term god modding comes from roleplaying. God modding is creating a character who is of an invincible nature and can do anything. God modders are also infamous for bunnying other characters' actions.

An example of god modding is making a spikey blonde-haired character that can fly and toss energy balls that can level cities, while being nigh indestructable.

*Thanks to Urban Dictionary for supplying this information.

2) Bunnying is not allowed. "Bunnying" is defined as taking control of characters other than your own in order to make the storyline go the way you want it to. Closely related to god modding. You can feel free to instant message or private message someone, asking them to make their character do something to move the plot in a certain way, however they are not in any way, shape, or form, obligated to do so.

3) --- The "3-MEs" Rule --- For the purpose of this Role Play, in the event of a chronological discrepancy (or a minor time jump) each of your characters is allowed to exist in up to 3 threads at any given time. However, make sure you are not causing any holes in the plot or story and that you're following a specific time order.

4) When you leave one topic, and go to another, we'd like to suggest that you leave a [TO: (Destination {with URL Embedded})] in your reply. It just makes everything much easier for you, as well as any characters your character may be interacting with. If you have not created the topic yet, feel free to edit your earlier post to include the destination.

5) Be sure to, every once in a while, take a step back and ask yourself: "Wait, would this logically make sense? Would my character really do this in this type of situation?" etc. It's nice to keep a small sense of realism, while staying within the boundaries of the roleplay.

6) On the subject of being out of character (OOC) in an in-character (IC) forum, please try to keep all out of character comments related to the RP in question. For example, something such as asking who someone was talking to, asking for an expansion of the details of an item, or pointing out a logical inconsistency or just an erroneous error would be great. However, something such as a corny one liner, or pointing out something stupid ("haha, you said 'region'") are not appreciated.

7) (Added October 5th, 2009) If you decide to kill one of your characters, you will not be permitted to change your mind once it happens in the RP - once that character is dead, he/she stays dead, unless revival is permitted by the staff for plot purposes only.
__________________________________________

On the Subject of Dueling

1) Set legality, restriction (forbidden-limited) lists used, and card effects are to be handled entirely by the parties involved in the duel at the time (this includes using proxies, at a reasonable quantity). If your opponent or opponents have no problem with you using the card before the duel, then it is fine. However, the default set legality and ban list is up to the latest set released in the TCG, using the latest official Upperdeck ban list.

2) Your means of dueling (YVD [9.0], DMU, DME, or a Messenger, etc.) are to be decided prior to the duel taking place.

3) You are free to tag duel, if you wish. However, rules must be spelled out very clearly for both parties prior to the duel, and a way of organizing the duel is to be provided by the duelists, not the board.

4) Basically, any other remaining rules not explicitly spelled out in here are entirely up to the two parties in the duel.

5) Should your character be forced into a duel as part of the storyline, and you feel as though you'd just rather not, you must speak to your opponent and find someway to decide a winner. (Yes, this includes not actually dueling, and just scripting a duel that never took place.)
Ex. A villain's first victory

______________________________________

On the Subject of Posting
This is mainly for general posting, which applies to all forums and sub-forums. Not just the RP, but also the general sections as well.

1) Please, keep the swearing down to a minimum. Both in and out of character. It's more of a respect thing then a "but I swear all the time anyway!" thing.

2) Do not flame, talk down to, or in anyway disrespect fellow users. (This includes calling everyone n00bs [or any variant] as well as making jokes or comments that could unintentionally offend or aggravate others.) Absolutely hating the person is no excuse. Take your arguments to any form of personal messaging system. Ultimately, these kinds of conversations do not belong on the public forum, not just because of the language and content used, but due to the psychological effect it has on the people who stumble upon it. So again, do not post such content on the actual forum. If need be, use the PM system.

3) Keep the "leet speak" to a minimum, both in and out of character. Nobody wants to be forced to strain themselves just to read one sentence.

4) No trolling. What's defined as "trolling?" It's at the moderator's discretion what is considered trolling, but vaguely, to post a message purposely meant to offend and upset other posters. Sometimes, the difficulty comes in trying to identify the posters intention, since something like an innocent question could bother people. ...Really, just use your common sense for this one, on both sides of the coin.

5) If you wish to present a point, be sure to be able to defend it. This includes for deck-building, as well as just in general.

__________________________________________

On the Subject of Advertisement

So...you've made yourself a brand new site and wish to spread word? Wonderful! We'll be happy to let you advertise...so long as you follow proper etiquette in doing so.

If you wish advertise, or perhaps affiliate with us, it is advised that you post as such under the 'Advertisement' forum provided. Alternatively...you may also advertise by using your sig and avatar. Provided, of course, that said advertisement follows standard site rules and regulations. In other words...no overly explicit or vulgar content, nothing excessively flashy or otherwise disruptive, etcetera etcetera.

Furthermore, know that should you choose to utilize your sig and avy in such a fashion, that spamming in order to further promote yourself and/or your site is a no-no. If it appears that this is in fact the case, you can expect to first be warned, then face repercussions for your actions should you opt not to comply with the initial warning. As to what would be considered 'inappropriate' in terms of the sig/avy or 'spamming' in terms of your posting...that's up to the staff in and of themselves. But really...just use a bit of common sense and there'll be no issue, alright?

Lastly...there have been several incidents of 'PM advertisement' as of late. In the most basic of terms, this is to be considered HARASSMENT OF OUR MEMBERS and as such WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. It is requested that anyone who receives a PM of this nature report it IMMEDIATELY. Whether or not you click any links provided is up to you...but know that the staff will not be held responsible for any accidents, incidents or injuries to yourself or your computer as a result. Capiche?

Oh...and as for what will happen to those found in violation of this last regulation in particular. Let's just say your time with us will be cut short, kay? Because CLEARLY if you're sneaking around behind our backs in such a manner, you've obviously got something to hide. Right? Right. You have been warned.

Closing notes

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read the rules. Hope we didn't single anyone out in reference to these. >_>

Addition:
Now that the rules have been posted, I have reset everyone's (the active-semi-active ones, anyway) Warn Level. However, in doing so, I'm going to be a tad more strict (since I never really did anything, before this). Some things (either here or in "Chat Box Usage") may have been left open to interpretation, but with knowledge of the rules in general, you realize how the open interpretation isn't quite so open.

You all know what is expected, and I hope I (or Aoi, or Danielle) never feel the need to give out "warnings". From this point onward, please pay attention to what you're doing, and how it could potentially be received by others. Excuses like "I was just kidding," "I didn't know..." "it was only a little bit," "he/she did it, so..." or "I do it in real life" will not work. even if it's a small issue, if it's against the rules, you can be warned and/or penalized.

Also noteworthy:
Be sure to bleep out your profanities, and, as said above, keep them to a minimum (you should know what that means in the eyes of others).
...So you know, the "swearing filters" sentence does not include the chat box, as it does it on its own.

(Rules are subject to change and all members must immediately adhere to them unless stated otherwise.)
