Greetings! Welcome to Crimson Wind Academy!
This forum site is primarily a role-playing message board based on the titular fictitious school in an alternate universe based around the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX-style of environment: an island academy. Its purpose is to mold and train aspiring duelists in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, known as "Duel Monsters."
Upon your arrival to this forum, you should register for an account. The next step to begin roleplaying (RP-ing) would be to set up a [character profile] for approval. Once you've created a character, you'll be ready to join in the story!
The following is a series of rules, guidelines, and information relating to different aspects of the site. Please read them and do your best to abide by these rules to avoid potential conflicts.
On the Subject of Accounts Simply put, each user is permitted to have only one user account; no duplicate accounts. Heavy punishment is dealt to a user who is found to have more than one account.
Places to Find Important Roleplay Information "Roleplay Controls"For anything pertaining to the RP, itself, not the site. The "Portal," where you can get quick access to the most recent and important topics, the current "Time Piece," and quick links to important Yu-Gi-Oh sites.
The Role Playing Profile and You [ The RP Character Profile Template] 1) Fill out the profile to the best of your abilities. Feel free to write about odd quirks, character flaws, and whatnot. You may choose any of the available dorms for your student character. (If you have an approved character from Year 1 [ TS3], you do not have to make a new "Year 2" profile UNLESS you wish to post with that character for "Year 2" roleplays.) 2) Characters from the television or manga series will not be accepted. In no manner whatsoever are you allowed to be related to any of the canon characters or any "famous duelist(s)." Furthermore, the mere mention of a canon character in your profile is generally frowned upon by both staff and other RPers. If you must use a legendary duelist in order for your profile to make sense, feel free to just use the term Legendary Duelist. (Example: "He got his favourite card from a world famous duelist.") However, once again, there is no guarantee the staff will approve of it. 3) Be sure to include as much information about your character as you can. Also, please be logical in areas such as your character's biography. (For example, it wouldn't make logical sense for your character to be raised in an average life, yet inexplicably have an underwater secret base where he monitors the entire school....) 4) Please keep any images used in your profile at a respectable level. Images commonly found in shonen or shoujo manga and anime are generally acceptable. But it is still at the discretion of the Administrator(s) approving your profile. (General rule of thumb: if you wouldn't show the picture to your grandma, don't show it to us here.) if you know your image isn't suitable, but still wish to use it, it's best to send it to a staff member to have them discuss it with the rest of the staff for "disclaimered approval." They can still refuse the use of the image. 5) Initially, you may create up to 1 character. However, once your post count increases to a certain amount, you will unlock the ability to create a second character. Further increasing your post count grants you more characters to control. The more you roleplay, the more characters you can apply for. (See "Unlockables & Leveling Up" spoiler further below.) However, do not stretch yourself too thin. Only apply for as many as you can handle. 6) Please, do not God Mod in your profile, unless your character's a villain. No over-the-top superpowers or anything of that sort. Furthermore, should such a character be approved, it is under the condition that there will be no God Modding of any sort against another member's character or their possessions. If the person you want to teleport/explode/kill with fire doesn't want that to happen, ...it doesn't happen. Please note that the creation of a character with magical powers or any such nonsense, while generally frowned upon, may, under certain special circumstances, be accepted into the RP. However, this is not a guarantee for anyone, and a profile with any powers whatsoever requires majority staff approval. Still, the remainder of the community may will against the creation of such a character. You have been warned. 7) "My character is a typical guy. Also, he's really really really REALLY rich for no reason." - Don't do it. 8) "My character killed over 9000 people, then came to the Academy at age 16." - Don't do that, either. 9) You are free to edit your own character profiles to keep them up-to-date. If something major happens to your character (including, but not limited to; broken [bones], pregnancy, and... being infested with whatever dark, evil villain powers of the week that are needed to further a plotline <_<), it is highly recommended that you update your profile and inform the staff of the changes, noting your edits, so that your profile remains approved and that it documents any major changes. This is primarily to help out new users who may wish to RP with you. Use your better judgment on what updates are worth keeping note of. When profiles are approved, they are QUOTED by the staff to lock in what they have approved of. When you inform them of an update to your profile, they will either copy the new info into the quoted post, or re-quote the edited profile. One last thing! Please, no loopholes in profiles. If we approve a character who claims to have "smooth vanilla skin, soft chocolate eyes and silky honey-like hair", we'd appreciate it if she wasn't literally made of candy. We're not gonna outright ban flowery speech or purple prose from profiles. However, don't try to twist words around just so you can end up having a character that violates any of the above rules.
General Posting This is mainly for general posting, which applies to all forums and sub-forums. Not just the RP, but also the general sections as well. (PLEASE NOTE: Posting in a non-roleplay area (except "General Roleplay Discussion") will NOT increase your post count.)
1) Please, keep the swearing down to a minimum. Both in and out of character. It's more of a 'respect' thing than a "but I swear all the time anyway!" thing. Also, as a matter of courtesy, please manually bleep out your own profanities when they do occur.
2) Do not flame, talk down to, or in anyway disrespect fellow users. (This includes calling everyone n00bs [or any variant] as well as making jokes or comments that could unintentionally offend or aggravate others.) Absolutely hating the person is no excuse. Take your arguments to any form of personal messaging system. Ultimately, these kinds of conversations do not belong on the public forum, not just because of the language and content used, but due to the psychological effect it has on the people who stumble upon it. So again, do not post such content on the actual forum. If need be, use the PM system.
3) Keep the "leet (1337) speak" to a minimum, both in and out of character. Nobody wants to be forced to strain themselves just to read one sentence.
4) No trolling. What's defined as "trolling?" It's at the moderator's discretion as to what is considered trolling, but vaguely, to post a message purposely meant to offend and upset other posters. Sometimes, the difficulty comes in trying to identify the posters intention, since something like an innocent question could bother people. ...Really, just use your common sense for this one, on both sides of the coin.
5) If you wish to present a point, try to defend it as well. This includes for deck-building, as well as just in general.
Role Play Posting
1) God-modding is not allowed. For those that do not know, "God-Modding," in the context of Role Playing, is when a character has the ability to do practically anything, without (many) limits or boundaries. This point can be argued, however if several people are accusing you of God-Modding... odds are, you're doing it. An example is when they simply cannot be harmed by any and all means other roleplayers try.
-It can be killing or injuring a character without the player's express permission. -It can be when they simply can’t be hit and dodge all attacks or anything for this matter aimed at them. -It can also be using other characters that other people RP with. In other words, if you do not 'legally' RP as Legolas, you cannot have Legolas say or do anything, without the player's express permission. -It can be when they make another character out to be what they’re not, just to make their own character seem superior.
This is a prime example of God Modding:
Player A: Punches Player B Player B: Dodges attack, grabs Player A and throws him. Player A flies at Player B, who warps behind him and slashes Player A in the back.
2) Bunnying is not allowed. "Bunnying" is defined as taking control of characters other than your own in order to make the storyline go the way you want it to. Closely related to god modding. You can feel free to instant message or private message someone, asking them to make their character do something to move the plot in a certain way, however they are not in any way, shape, or form, obligated to do so.
3) When you leave one topic, and go to another, we'd like to suggest that you leave a [TO: (Destination {with URL Embedded})] in your reply. It just makes everything much easier for you, anyone interacting with your characters, and those who wish to follow your stories. If you have not created the topic yet, feel free to edit your earlier post to include the destination.
4) Be sure to, every once in a while, take a step back and ask yourself: "Wait, would this logically make sense? Would my character really do this in this type of situation?" etc. Try to remain in-character and keep a small sense of realism, while staying within the boundaries of the roleplay.
5) On the subject of being out of character (OOC) in an in-character (IC) forum, please try to keep all out of character comments related to the RP in question. For example, something such as asking who someone was talking to, asking for an expansion of the details of an item, or pointing out a logical inconsistency or just an erroneous error would be great. However, something such as a corny one liner, or pointing out something stupid ("haha, you said 'region'") are not appreciated or acceptable.
OOC posts in a roleplaying area will be deleted on sight, unless it also consists of IC writing. Any and all issues can be resolved either on the chatbox at the bottom of the page, or though PMs.
6) If you decide to kill off one of your characters, you will not be permitted to change your mind once it happens in the RP - once that character is dead, he/she stays dead, unless revival is permitted by the staff for plot purposes only.[/color]
Unlockables & Leveling Up
Dueling 1) Informally, only a maximum of 2 of the same deck theme are permitted here at a time between Users. Please try to avoid having the same deck theme as another User if possible. 2) Set legality, restriction (forbidden-limited) lists used, card effects, and the set of rules regarding Priority (TCG or OCG) are to be handled entirely by the parties involved in the duel at the time - this includes the use of proxies. If your opponent, or opponents, have no problem with you using the card, before the duel, then it is fine. However, the default set legality and ban list is up to the latest set released in the TCG (including approved anime/manga/video game/custom cards), using the latest official Konami Forbidden-Limited list. 3) Student characters are prohibited from using Top Tier decks - a privilege only Teachers, Pro Duelists, Villains, and such receive. The list on this site is updated every few months. See [ this thread] to find CWA's current Top Tier decks. 4) Your means of dueling (Yugioh Virtual Dueling [YVD], Dueling Network [DN], Duel Monsters Genesis[DMG], Duel Monsters Expert[DME], Messenger/text-dueling, video games, or scripting, etc.) are to be decided prior to the duel taking place. 5) For Roleplay Duels, regarding the Side Deck: It is encouraged that your side deck choices make sense in the realm of the roleplay (keeping in mind that only 1 duel would be roleplayed, as characters only have single duels in the RP). If your character is facing another character for the first time, it would not make sense to have cards in your Side Deck that would specifically counter their deck type (ex: Ally of Justice Cycle Reader vs LIGHT match-ups). HOWEVER, if your character is facing another character in a rematch (or the opposing character is well-known), it would be logical to have sided against them with specific cards towards the deck they are known for. Try to only side cards that would fit the flow of your deck in addition to dealing with opponents in general. If you are unsure as to whether a card is suitable or not, please feel free to consult other members in the chatbox at the bottom of the page. Note: This is just a guideline and is not enforced, but it is encouraged. 6) You are free to tag duel, if you wish. However, rules must be spelled out very clearly for both parties prior to the duel, and a way of organizing the duel is to be provided by the duelists, not the board. 7) On this site, anime, manga, video game, and Custom cards are permitted to an extent. See [ this thread] for details regarding this. 8) Should your character be forced into a duel as part of the storyline, and you feel as though you'd just rather not, you must speak to your opponent and find someway to decide a winner. (Yes, this includes not actually dueling, and just scripting a duel that never took place.) Ex. A villain's first victory 9) RP Tournaments must have a fixed set of rules (including the OCG rules or TCG rules regarding Priority and Xyz Monsters 10) Basically, any other remaining rules not explicitly spelled out in here are entirely up to the two parties in the duel.
Chatbox Rules
Advertisements and You
So...you've made yourself a brand new site and wish to spread word? Wonderful! We'll be happy to let you advertise..., so long as you follow proper etiquette in doing so.
If you wish advertise, or perhaps affiliate with us, it is advised that you post as such under the 'Advertisement' forum provided. Alternatively...you may also advertise by using your sig and avatar. Provided, of course, that said advertisement follows standard site rules and regulations. In other words...no overly explicit or vulgar content, nothing excessively flashy or otherwise disruptive, etcetera etcetera.
Furthermore, know that choosing to utilize your sig and avy in such a fashion, or spam the site in order to further promote yourself and/or your site, is a no-no. If it appears that this is in fact the case, you can expect disciplinary measures. As to what would be considered 'inappropriate' in terms of the sig/avy or 'spamming' in terms of your posting...that's up to the staff, in and of themselves. But really..., just use a bit of common sense and there'll be no issue, alright?
Lastly, dreaded 'PM advertisements.' In the most basic of terms, this is to be considered HARASSMENT OF OUR MEMBERS and, as such, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. It is requested that anyone who receives a PM of this nature report it IMMEDIATELY. Whether or not you click any links provided is up to you, but know that the staff will not be held responsible for any accidents, incidents or injuries to yourself or your computer as a result. Capiche?
Oh..., and as for what will happen to those found in violation of this last regulation in particular. Let's just say your time with us will be cut short, 'kay? Because CLEARLY if you're sneaking around behind our backs in such a manner, you've obviously got something to hide. Right? Right. You have been warned.
Closing notes
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read the rules.
Some things (either here or in our chatbox thread) may have been left open to interpretation, but with knowledge of the rules as a whole, you realize how the open interpretation isn't quite so open.
You all know what is generally expected, and I hope that the members of staff never feel the need to give out "warnings" and/or punishments. From this point onward, please pay attention to what you're doing on this site, and how it could potentially be received by others. Excuses like "I was just kidding," "I didn't know..." "it was only a little bit," "he/she did it, so..." or "I do it in real life" will not work. even if it's a small issue, if it's against the rules, you can be warned and/or penalized.
(Rules are subject to change and all members must immediately adhere to them unless stated otherwise.)
