On the Subject of Advancement Advancement Exams are essentially comprised of a short essay, accompanied by a single duel, using your character's deck (THIS DETERMINES WHICH CHARACTER IS PROMOTED/DEMOTED [starting now]). Advancement Exams can be taken by a ranked member only once every 2 IRL months (as far as the rp is concern, that's no time at all). Grading will also be harsher than with the Entrance Exam. To apply for the advancement exam, contact a Global Moderator or the Admin using the same procedure as with the "Entrance Exam." Advancement Exam Grading: Short Essay - 75% Duel Portion - 25% Short Essay Rubric: ( /75) Knowledge of Subject: X/25 Quality of Essay: X/25 Description of Examples: X/15 Spelling and Grammar: X/10 (1-point deduction per error - no negatives) Duel Rubric: ( /25) Description of Deck Theme (the exam proctor will ask you to describe the theme and its goals [examinee is to use as much detail as possible]. This is done before the duel. If they fail to ask [via PM only] before the duel begins [if necessary], it's an auto-5/5 to the fault of the proctor. Include the mentioning of which character this is for, as well as his/her Ace Card.): X/5 Deck Functionality (how well the deck accomplishes its goals, above - not how well it wins --- If the examinee got an auto-5/5 in "Description of Deck Theme," then they get an auto-5/5 here, as well. [Proctors, be sure to ask.]): X/5 Decision Quality (as judged by the proctor based on what he/she can see): X/10 Duel Victory: X/5 (Auto-5 or auto-0) ^ *If examinee victory was stopped and reversed [proctor wins] in any one turn, they get a 3/5 (Example of "Reversal Loss" Student LP = 2800 (no monsters on field) Proctor LP = 1250 (2 face-up monsters; 1 face-down support) Student's turn "Lightning Vortex" eliminates all monsters (being face-up) on Proctor's field. Activates "Reasoning" -- Proctor calls "4" -- Student Special Summons "Majestic Mech - Goryu" [ATK 2900] Student attacks directly with Goryu to attempt to win the duel Proctor activates Magic Cylinder, and with no response, the Proctor wins the duel on the turn that he/she would have otherwise lost.) ===================== For the Short Essay, you will choose a topic, on which to base it, from a list given to you by the proctor. For a chance at full marks, aside from what's mentioned above, be sure to structure your essay and give as much information as possible that you believe is relevant to the topic. For the Duel portion, the proctor can use any deck (or version of it [ex. inclusion of Synchros]) of his/her choice (including those not listed below). Select 2 of the following deck types that you do NOT wish to duel against: Gladiator Beasts Dark Armed Dragon Lightsworn Blackwing Six Samurai Monarchs Gadgets Zombies Spellcasters OTHER: ___________________ You, and the proctor, must comply with the rules of the current TCG ban list. The use of animé, manga, fake, or currently OCG-only cards is acceptable only under mutual agreement. Rank Results The following will show the required percentage scores needed to obtain one of the following four ranks: Sebek Green -- 0-49% Osiris Red -- 50-74% Ra Yellow -- 75-89% Obelisk Blue -- 90-100% *Decimal values are to be rounded to the nearest whole number. **If you receive a score that is below your current rank's percentage range, you will be demoted. Basically, you get the rank based on your score. The higher ranked you are, the harder it will be to maintain your position. Keep all this in mind. EDIT: Added note, which has been brought to my attention: When you apply for your Advancement Exam, and your proctor sends you the topics, you can look them over, and you DO NOT HAVE TO do any of them. Also, you will not automatically fail for not doing it. However. Since the topic for the exam has been sent to you, you must wait the length of at least 2 IRL months to send another request for topics (which may or may not be updated or increased in number at that time). The 2-month wait period is based on the more recent of the following two actions: the essay receival date (if you choose not to do it), or the essay submission date (if you do choose to do it). Asking another Moderator for a topic will not work, as we are keeping track of everyone's topic receival and submission dates. In the case where, by chance, it isn't noticed, then is found out sometime before the examination process is complete, the exam will be discarded Ruling on this may change in the future. If it does, everyone will be notified in this thread. Advancement Exam Time Limit: 2 months Edited by Rina Kasakura, Jun 6 2009, 03:56 AM.
