The Racin hidden in the Azure Flames
|
Jake walked into the courtyard, completely oblivious of the rain that was now soaking him. He found a bench and sat down. It seems as though things have slowed down. Jake said as he continued to wait for another presence to show up. |

Normally, the school courtyard would be a lively place. Students from all dorms would convene here to chat, swap cards and strategies, and engage in fierce competition as they all sought to lay claim to the title of 'top duelist'. But this wasn't a normal day, was it? The fierce weather was enough to make even the most stalwart individual want to stay indoors, safe from the fierce winds and biting rains. However...one could hardly consider Demitri a 'normal' person. Traveling for as long as he could remember, such conditions were hardly a problem for the Obelisk giant. His sturdy frame had endured much harsher storms over the years, so he found no discomfort traversing through the slightly flooded paths that criss-crossed through what was widely regarded as the 'centerpiece' of the academy. He had no real purpose or destination for his travels...his goal only to get away from the Obelisk dorms for a time. Celebrations had commenced as soon as the group returned from their search for little Sakaki. As if out of thin air the main dining hall was filled with all sorts of delicacies from across the globe. It was a paradise for anyone who enjoyed fine dining...at least until some idiot decided it was a good idea to sneak a bit of alcohol into the equation. Now...normally a healthy young man would enjoy the sight of a girl or two stripping down to her undergarments and dancing on a table. However...these were the same young women who had only an hour or two prior chased down a group of Sebek students with the full intent to maim and/or kill them. As such...basic survival instinct decreed that a hasty exit was recommended before the lot came to their senses. And so, armed with an umbrella big enough to be used at the beach or at a picnic, Demitri set out into the storm. He didn't expect to see anyone, save for the occasional student or teacher running to find shelter...so it came as a slight surprise when he spotted an Osiris sitting nonchalantly on one of the benches lining the walkways. Walking over to the young man, he recalled that it was one of the ones that he had observed from the school entranceway on his first day at the academy. He was also one of the two that had bested the duo of Kratos and Sakaki during the morning class. What was his name? Jake...Yakuma I think? "...You know. You're likely to catch hypothermia or pneumonia if you keep sitting there like that." Demitri said, not really knowing how else to start up a conversation. Despite having a vast amount of knowledge about countless different things...small talk wasn't something he was proficient in. Edited by Demitri Reyveirnacus, Jun 17 2008, 04:29 PM.

I know. Jake said. I just needed to get away from the crowded buildings and there was no way I was going back to the dingy Osiris dorm. I would probably be getting rained on in there too. Jake said as water continued to drip down from his hair and jacket. His pants and undershirt weren't too wet as of yet. Jake stood up before his pants did get too wet though. He looked out to the empty courtyard. This is about the most peaceful I have ever seen the school Jake said with not a smile, but more of a frown. However, it is a double-edged sword. This quiet is a little eerie when you think about it. It gives the school a look of a ghost town. Nobody to duel, nobody to talk to. Jake says. Now that I think about it, what are you going out in the rain? Jake asked the Obelisk who looked familiar. |

"Hmmm...the full story would take to long to explain. So suffice to say that I too needed some peace and quiet." Demitri said with a shrug. The thought of what he'd be walking into when he returned to the dorms made him shudder a bit. He looked over the red briefly. Even in his dilapidated state thanks to the rain, his discontent was as clear as day. But why would he have trouble finding an opponent? The school was FULL of aspiring pro duelists...right? "Trouble finding a challenger? After that stunt you pulled in class? I find that hard to believe..." |

Jake began to get a little annoyed when the question was asked. What do you mean by stunt? Jake asked as the rain continued to pour onto his head. I did nothing in that classroom to be called a stunt. Jake said in a firm tone.[/b]

Demitri thought about this for scenario for a moment. His last question had left Jake a bit irked. Not exactly an unexpected reaction...but... Hmmmmm... Normally, Demitri would be the type to acknowledge the 'error' and continue on. But, for reasons probably resulting from the weather and barometric pressure and so forth...he decided to push Jake a little bit more. "What? You don't think challenging a teacher to a duel in the middle of class when you have no idea who they even are doesn't classify as a stunt? Let's see...it's certainly unusual, and judging by how it initially looked to an impartial observer it would've certainly been a challenge for you. By rights of general description...that would in fact classify as a stunt." Demitri mused. |

I wanted a strong opponent and a teacher was exactly what I was looking for. With my 0-2 record in Single duels, I wanted to know what I could improve on. I don't think I would have taken advice from a Ra or Obelisk, so I went right to administration. That way, I know they have alot of experience to help me get out of the Osiris dorm. Jake said. That is why you could see my frustration of making the duel a tag duel with that Sakaki. I wanted a duel where I could be seen in my full abilities to be shown so I could be criticized by Kratos. Jake said, hopefull answering the Obelisk's question. |

This time, it was Demitri's turn to be irritated. As he listened to Jake's response, his expression quickly turned sour. "So let me get this straight. You're not willing to learn from your fellow students, and instead intend to rely on the faculty to spoon feed you what you need to know? And then you want them to offer you praise when you finally something that shouldn't be all that difficult in the first place?" Having spent most of his life wandering alone, Demitri had learned that you pick up knowledge where you can get it. Waiting around for someone to teach him just didn't compute... "That's just...sad. Thank goodness all of the other Osiris aren't like you." He sighed, sounding rather annoyed. |

Why should I learn from somebody I don't really know? Jake asked. If I have spent some time with them and chatting with them and learned their personality, then I would take their advice. But going off on a feeling asking somebody for advice is stupid. Jake said, now glaring at the Obelisk. I tried trusting people I didn't know in the past and it never worked out. Jake said, trying to get the Obelisk to see his point of view. |

"Yet you felt inclined to trust the judgment of Kratos, a person you didn't know in the slightest? A man who not only left the classroom in a huff after he lost...but left an innocent little girl to try to pick up the pieces? Brilliant." Demitri returned the Osiris' glare at this point, obviously having a problem swallowing Jake's perspective on things. "You haven't got the slightest clue what the hell your talking about, do you?" he continued. "You claim not to trust people, but you practically threw yourself at Mr. Aurion...and for what? A pat on the head? A couple words of 'wisdom' that may or may not have been accurate? Regurgitated information that anybody should have been able to tell you in the first place? Please..." |
