Destined Confrontation
|
1.If "Book of Moon" is chained to the effect of "Demise, King of Armageddon", is "Demise, King of Armageddon" destroyed by his effect? Does the effect still activate? Explain your reasoning. The effect doesn’t destroy Demise, because it states in the card’s text when you use the effect that every other card is destroyed but “this card” referring to Demise meaning, it’s effect won’t destroy it no matter face-up or face down. The effect also activates even if it is flipped face down, because by paying the cost and the effect’s activation coming into play, it will resolve since all conditions will be present, that is being if there are other cards on the field to be destroyed (excluding Demise.) 2. If a "Crystal Beast" monster is tributed for a tribute summon, can you activate its "Crystilization" effect? Explain why or why not. No, because the effect of “Crystilization” works if they are destroyed in the monster card Zone, not tributed. 3. Explain the difference between a card effect and a cost. Also, explain how to determine whether a discard or tributing is the result of a card effect, or a the result of a cost. Furthermore, can "Dark World" monster effects activate when discarded via a cost? Do cards like "Sangan" activate as the result of a cost? Card Effect and Costs are different because for one thing, a cost is something required to start a card’s activation. For an example, to activate Magic Jammer, you’ll need to discard one card to the Graveyard, and then it’s effect comes into play. Card Effects are what the cards cause to happen during their activation. Just because the card has a negative effect doesn’t mean it’s a cost, such as Upstart Goblin that activates and you get to draw one card while your opponent recovers 1000 life points. Dark World Monsters are specific on this part. You can’t activate their effect unless it’s by Card Effect, such as the Magic Jammer example, discarding to pay the cost of activation would not make the effect of cards such as Broww, Huntsman of Dark World to come into play since it specifically require discarding by “Card Effects“ to begin it‘s activation. Cards that have an effect such as Graceful Charity that activates would cause you to draw three cards, and then discard two. This discarding is not a cost, so there fore, you can count this as a card effect and thus activate Broww’s effect. Now, cards like “Sangan” can activate during a cost, but that’s because it’s stated in the card’s conditions and there’s a loophole. It specifically states that when Sangan is sent from the field to the graveyard, it’s effect will activate. Even if you would pay a cost for a tribute for another card’s effect to kick in and send Sangan to the graveyard, it still stands that the conditions were met, no matter by what method. 4. You are running a Crystal Beast deck. You have "Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins" on the field, and four "Crystal Beasts" in your spell and trap zone, as well as a "Crystal Beast" in your monster zone. Your opponent activates a field spell card. Can you negate the effect of the field spell card? Will Rainbow Ruins be destroyed by the field spell? If so, why is Rainbow Ruins destroyed? Explain your reasoning. Yes, you can negate the activation of the field spell, because it’s the same as negating a Spell or Trap card, and Rainbow Ruins will remain intact because since you negated the activation of the field spell meaning you can keep your field spell in play since the opponent’s field spell never even became active. 5. Can "Rope of Life" be activated if you have no cards in your hand? Is discarding for "Rope of Life" a cost? Explain your reasoning. No, you can’t activate Rope of Life if you have no cards in your hand because you must discard cards to activate it, and because of this condition, that makes this discarding a card cost. 6. Choose and construct a deck from the following line-ups. You may also construct a side-board if you wish to do so (It will be worth bonus points, however you must add a explanation of your card choices and your reasoning). You should also have a paragraph explaining the deck and explaining your card choices. Also for each illegal card in the decklist (Ie banned cards or having less the 40 cards) you will loose 5 points from your total score. Let’s use Crystal Beasts! - Crystal Beasts Monsters 18 Crystal Beast - Emerald Tortoise x 2 Crystal Beast - Amber Mammoth x 2 Crystal Beast - Sapphire Pegasus x 2 Crystal Beast - Ruby Carbuncle x 2 Crystal Beast - Topaz Tiger x 2 Crystal Beast - Amethyst Cat x 2 Crystal Beast - Cobalt Eagle x 2 Rescue Cat Riryoku Rainbow Dragon x 2 Magic 16 Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins x 3 Crystal Tree Crystal Abundance x 2 Crystal Blessing Crystal Beacon x 2 Crystal Promise Crystal Release x 2 Rare Value x 3 Traps 10 Crystal Raigeki x 2 Last Resort Torrential Tribute Crystal Counter x 2 Crystal Pair x 2 Rainbow Path x 2 Rainbow Gravity This deck is used to continuously swap out cards from the Magic and Trap zone while preparing an OTK. By using cards such as Rare Value and Rainbow Ruins to keep your hand plentiful, you can also use them to get rid of Crystal Beast cards from the Magic and Trap card zone and get cards into the graveyard. Rainbow Path and Crystal Counter would also help keep cards in the Graveyard, as well as Torrential Tribute so you can get them back into the Magic and Trap Card Zone using other card effects eventually leading to Rainbow Dragon being Special summoned. You can also use beneficial effects such as Crystal Pair to negate opponent’s effects while keeping the Magic and Trap Card zone plentiful of Crystal Beasts, but the only danger is trapping yourself with a full Magic and Trap Card Zone. ------------------------ Use the deck created in a match (best two out of three rounds) against an examiner. Your grade will not be effected by the outcome of the match, but will be determined by the plays made. For the duel portion, you may come across one of the following decks: Gadgets, Zombies, Six Samurai, Burn, Dark Armed Dragon. However you may choose one deck that you would not like to face Umm… it doesn’t matter to me. |

Oh my...>_< We MUST take this exam down already! Sorry, Avien Blue, but this exam has been nullified, so it doesn't really count. We're waiting for our lazy Admins to post the new exam already. |

Didn't Luthien agree to let the exam be used until the new exam was up? ["Forum Feedback" ---> "About the Exam"] ...Or am I misunderstanding something...? Edited by Rina Kasakura, May 11 2008, 08:19 PM.

I'm not sure. I thought something else was decided on during the council meeting, but that was a month ago, and I've done things since then. Meh, w/e the other guy says. |

Don't think this is merely a game...your life is on the line.

It WAS decided that there would be a different system in place...but since that's slow goings, it was suggested that the current exam be used until the other system is up and running. Edited by Demitri Reyveirnacus, May 12 2008, 03:33 PM.

Don't think this is merely a game...your life is on the line.

Question 1 Understanding: 7/10 Description: 4/5 Correct Answer: 5/5 Total: 16/20 You're correct. However...WHY does Demise still blow the field when it's flipped? You've got the more technical aspects of it...but there are other cards with similar style effects that don't go off if they're flipped with Book. What about the card makes it different? Question 2 Understanding: 6/10 Description: 2/5 Correct Answer: 5/5 Total: 14/20 You're right, but why are you right? Question 3 Understanding: 9/10 Description: 5/5 Correct Answer: 5/5 Total: 19/20 Good. I see little need for further exemplification here. Question 4 Understanding: 8/10 Description: 4/5 Correct Answer: 5/5 Total: 17/20 Question 5 Understanding: 6/10 Description: 2/5 Correct Answer: 5/5 Total: 13/20 You're right...but again, WHY are you right? Key elements are missing in your explanation. Why do you HAVE to discard? Question 6 Description: 8/15 Overall List: 5//10 Side Deck: 0/5 (bonus) Total: 13/25 I'm really disliking this deck. For one thing...Sapphire Pegasus should be MAXED in a Crystal Beast deck. This is mandatory, as it's the backbone of the theme with solid stats and it's role as your primary source of fuel for all the support. Second, Riryoku was a SPELL last i checked. Spell lineup looks decent enough. Trap lineup is...eclectic to say the least. The general rule is to use as few traps as possible in Crystal Beast, and the traps that ARE run should be able to be activated at any given moment. Crystal Pair, Last Resort and Rainbow Path are horrible cards whose overall effect can be achieved through other means with lower risk to the user. Counter could be interesting if you play it right, and Raigeki is...well...Raigeki. Gravity is up in the air...but I could see it working I suppose. Maybe... Anyways...on to the final tally. Question 1: 16/20 Question 2: 14/20 Question 3: 19/20 Question 4: 17/20 Question 5: 13/20 Question 6: 13/25 Total: 92/125 A few little refinements here and there and you would have had a shot at Obelisk. That deck was your biggest downfall. As you currently stand...you'd be Osiris. Borderline Ra, so unless you screw up HORRIBLY during the duel portion...welcome to the Ra Yellow dorms. Congratulations! =D |
