Suggestion: Stop using the staff forum

(Note: I know several of the people on our forum would vote for an outright deletion of the board, however I am not suggestion that as of yet, for the most part.)

As a member who was once a staff, I would probably wager that the current staff (Namely, Danielle, Rina and Aoi) are forming some kind of "united front" or whatever in the staff forum. I base this solely on the fact that I think if I was a member of the staff and something like this happened I'd likely do the same thing. Once again, I can not speak for them, however I assume this is what they are doing, mostly. If, as a member of the staff, you are reading this and you are not attempting this, skip on down to the fourth paragraph.

However, I profess that the aforementioned course of action is rather faulty. Firstly, it lumps the entirety of the staff together, which may indeed work counterproductive to their goals of attempting to restore any semblance of order.

If, for example, Aoi came up with a brilliant idea that would solve everything, and Danielle and Rina disagreed, when presenting the staff's proposal should a member think up the same brilliant idea Aoi did in the "rough draft" phase, then the entire staff would be viewed as incompetent, rather then just two out of three. Not a very good example, but the staff can't try to have it both ways. Being united when it is a good idea and being 3 separate entities when an idea they present is ridiculed.

Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, is that with the lack of any kind of posting on their part, the members of the forum feel further and further uninformed and abandoned by the people they had chosen to represent their ideals. Members feel as though their own ideas and their own wishes are being dismissed, or viewed as unimportant, and not many people like being told they're unimportant. An environment that inspires feelings of abandonment and resentment is certainly one that most members would like to avoid, and it is the staffs best interest to reply to topics swiftly, not spend a majority of their time working towards a "united front".

So, ultimately, my suggestion is to vastly limit the amount of topics made within the staff section. If it is a topic pertaining to the roleplay, post it in the appropriate "role play discussion" area. If it pertaining to the board, feel free to drop it into "forum feedback" or whatever. And do that like... all the time. If, after a certain length of time, you still find it necessary to keep a secret forum away from all the other members, by all means go ahead, but be forewarned of the kinds of ideas you inspire within your member base.

Staff forum is probably not needed in a small community such as this one

Yeah, well, we aren't working on a "united front." We've disagreed on optimal solutions to the problems the members have brought up, so even trying to attempt that serves no purpose. We've posted our own personal views on the issues that have been brought up. When several members go around talking about "not trusting the Staff" or whatever because of this Staff Forum, it makes more sense to use it less, which is what we've already been doing. In fact, we haven't hardly used it at all for anything since I joined the Staff; only really for redoing obsolete exam questions since Konami took over and to compensate for the September limited list, and cleaning out the old pinned topics that were from TS0 that had no relevance anymore (the Dorm Tournament was still pinned, among others). Yes, there was a thread where I reiterated the default time limits complaints that had already been addressed in the timeline debate. Yes, there was a thread about "Increased Activity" that went off topic into Chat Mods. In all seriousness, the perception of what actually goes on in the Staff Forum has been blown completely out of proportion.

And for the record, my lack of response is mainly because I'm a slow poster. Some of you guys, from early on, already knew that about me. For the newer members who hadn't noticed that about me, yet. I apologize if you really felt that way because of it.

I don't think the staff-only area should be completely deleted or abandoned. As a staff member on a different forum, there are some things that come up where it is really not right for members to get involved (disagreements between people should be kept to only members directly affected, as with inappropriate behaviour, etc) or for things like exam questions. IMO, this is the kind of thing that the staff lounge should be used for.

I think that CWA is small enough that, in most situations, the staff forum is not particularly needed. It might help with the whole "trust of the members" thing for the staff to present their ideas for RP plots directly to the populace and voice their honest opinions in the forum feedback topics, even if a consensus isn't reached.

I agree with this. The above is all true.

Aoi did also post a topic in the Staff Lounge about how to protect the Certified Profiles and TS0 from invisible edits. As many of you should already be aware, I asked Aoi in the chat several times to post her concerns in the public topic. Billie and Rou were both signed in on the chat at this time. This should be evidence enough that there is no "united front," nor will there be. The moment you believe your members to be hostile is the moment you cease to listen to their concerns.

As for the "lack of posting," I feel that I've been pretty active in posting regarding the members' concerns, stating my opinion as a member in each topic. If you feel that your ideas are being dismissed, or considered unimportant, then it's probably because someone disagreed with you. This is not an altogether unusual occurance when an idea is presented. Even though someone disagreed with you, there are probably others who agree with you, so you shouldn't take it personally. Regardless, you should be commended for having the courage to put forward an idea about how you think to best improve the board.

Yes, it is procedure to post up graded exams. Everyone who is in charge of Exams should have access to those.
