Staff should advertise more.

The staff [read: not the members, it must be the staff] should really go about advertising to other places, whether they be other forums or... youtube comments or something. As I recall, Kai's website got a fair amount of people advertising this way. Granted, youtube tends to have quite a fair share of idiots, but we do happen to pick up a gem every once in a while, and I think it's well worth it.

"But why the staff specifically?" I can hear you saying. Well, it's not much good if Joe Schmoe or whomever extends a friendly olive branch over to a neighbouring site. It's a much more symbolic gesture to have a staff member do this.

Yup, I posted Advertisements on "X-Men: Evolution" videos. Got us a good deal of members, then I killed the site. DX

Edit: So, obviously: All Episodes of "Yu-Gi-Oh! GX" for you guys, maybe 5D's.

On the contrary, I believe Lux's methods to be quite counter-productive to forum growth. Kai's advertisment of NEX got... Gina. That's about all I can think of in the way of permanent members.

If we go to a neighboring site and sign up, and immediately begin advertising, and then disappear, we're never going to get people to stick around. We're not going to make a good name for ourselves either. Advertising is best done through "word-of-mouth" where you tell your friends (both IRL and on sites you go on frequently), because you already have relationships with those people. But if you insist on Staff involvement....

We can challenge another site to a tournament (or "war" if you so prefer)-- Aoi, you'd better not go overboard with this, if the members approve. I know how much you've wanted to do your Eclipse arc <_<

Crimson Wind Academy vs Whom ever has the guts!?

Sounds pretty interesting, as long as something stupid didn't come of it.

So, that's why we aren't following Lux's method to the letter. We're taking the good, and trimming the bad from it as much as we can. A staff member stepping forward on another board, preferably after a bit of time adjusting, and getting to know the members, is a much more concrete gesture than a regular member posting an advertisement link on the board. Further, staff can actually discuss potential mergers, and such with the staff of the other board, if the board is dwindling. Essentially, it's something for the staff to think about doing more often.

Also, advertising on Youtube got us... I do believe: Gina, Linky, EXL, Dean, and Charlotte? Maybe more. Chase?

Eh, we got a handful more. Dean Cypher, Charlotte Cross, and Jamison Osbourne. Granted, they came more towards the end of NEX's life and didn't stick come on to the board like, every single day or whatever but... then again, how many of our own members come along every singe day and what not?

And once we've done that, do you expect us to bail on that site and those friendships? I'm not going to join a site and befriend people just so I can try to brainwash them to my worldview (or in this case drag some of them here). If we build relations with another site, then we need to maintain them; we can't just move on once we've had our fill of fresh blood. CWA is not a vampiric forum that will feed on the lifeblood of other forums, moving from one to the next in an "Advertising Campaign."

Likewise, I'm not going to seek out "weak-looking" forums to prey on, pressuring the Staff to merge with us. That's an underhanded tactic. Also, I'm not going to trust my members to the care of a Staff that I do not trust.

@ Youtube: Well, Gina was the only one I saw much of. Most of the members here I believe come on every day (excepting of course, the days when there are local tournaments, or larger ones, and excepting those with computer problems who cannot access the forum for the time being). Kai, for example, is in the chat often enough (every day, I'd say), although he does not post very often.

Basically, what you said in regards to my comments is why CWA will die. The strong prey on the weak. It's how the world works. Period. >_>
