Tournaments on CWA can actually be a huge draw, if they’re done correctly. We’ve been holding these for several months, since I originally returned to the board. We’ve had decently large numbers of entrants in every tournament thus far, and we could majorly use this to our advantage. I think that we could use this as a major contributor in helping to improve activity, if we were to, for example, send out a bulk e-mail to members advertising our tournament, we may be able to draw old members back by showing them good competition, or potentially, we could draw new members by using it as a draw when advertising on other boards. I think that the tournaments should play a larger role in our board’s affairs, from being marked on our calendars, to even having a potential banner with a quick link to it on the top of our forum, to make for easier navigation. Further, I feel that potential prizes be offered. From a signature request to myself, or Chase if he would be willing to consent, to a free pack of cards, or even just a quick ten dollars. As the host of the Epic Tournament series, I would be happy to provide the prizes to the winners. |

Marking on the calendars is an interesting idea, but we will have to know the dates ahead of time. I believe a banner is not necessary because the tournament subforum is at the top anyway. As for prizes for Epic, it's your tournament. Go ahead. |

I can add something onto the Portal if you want. I doubt anyone uses that much, though... Anyway, it's in the top section of the Board Index, right below both "Announcements" subforums. It's kind of hard to miss, I think. If you wanted a flashy scrolly text display, I think they're kind of tacky. |

Flashy scrolly text? Hardly. I was recalling something that Kura did back at South Academy years ago when we had our one and only real tournament. He put, at the top of the board, an EPIC picture that I can't remember what it was of, that direct linked to the sign ups topic. Doing this would help new people who see it, but don't see any posts in X amount of time to know that it IS still active, and that it's not just a dead forum. We could advertise on it the date when Registrations close, and when the next registrations would be open, and such. Basically, it'd serve the dual purpose of advertising the tournament, and glorifying the look of our board. |

I hate doing tournaments with a minuscule turnout. I miss the days when we had enough people (17+) to do 5 rounds and cut to top8. And yes I think signatures should be made for the winners of the tournaments and we could even start to make it look more organized. Edited by Gouki Shinkou, Nov 5 2009, 04:33 PM.

Once they click on the link, they still might be confused that the forum is dead, especially considering the tournament topic will have replies within the last 24 hours, or conveniently mentioned in the first post of the thread. Additionally, the list of members who have clicked in the last 15 minutes might also mislead them, as could the chat box on the bottom of the page. Furthermore, most of the people who sign up for Epic Tournaments are members of this board, and as such they will have heard Gouki's advertisements in the chat. However, if someone who is inclined toward creating graphics made some sort of image for our tournaments, then I see no problem with implementing it into the board. With the consent of the members, of course. |
