[From: The Trap Is Sprung (The morning after anyways. Stuff here shouldn't be affected as I'm just a spectator there.)]

Jason left the hotel somewhat early. It wasn't that he didn't feel like home in the resort hotel, because it was a lot better than what he'd experienced back home. Right now he was just restless. He'd spent most of the previous night working with his deck using the few extra cards he'd not shipped with his baggage that was en route to Crimson Wind. At this point, though, there were a couple things missing for his Deck. Luckily, he knew that any good shop should have what he's looking for, and after strolling through the Dome for a while, he came upon "Card Empire."

"I guess this couldn't be more obvious," Jason muttered to himself as he opened the door. He was somewhat surprised how early they opened; most shops he knew of weren't open until the afternoon. Nonetheless, the door opened effortlessly, and he was greeted with the chime of a bell that meant someone had entered the store. At this point the store was relatively empty.

"Need anything, sir?" the lone store worker asked, appearing bored.

"I think I know what I want," Jason responded. "Give me a few minutes." Walking over to the display case, Jason quickly found the Duel Monsters monster section. A quick scan found the type of cards he was looking for, and luckily enough for him, there were a few he was looking for in stock. A quick glance told him that they were just in his price range, so he waved the attendant over and told him the cards he wanted. One quick monetary transaction later, and Jason was in the back of the store spreading out his deck. His Model 2 duel disk also managed to escape his backpack; this way, if someone did come in, someone might get the idea that he was looking for a quick game.

Some of his cuts were particularly tough, but after the close duel from yesterday he didn't want to take any chances against the Academy. He ruthlessly sorted and resorted his cards, taking about 15 minutes to find a combination he liked. With a satisfied look on his face, he began to shuffle his cards up. Since nobody was really playing at the moment as evident by the emptiness of the store, once he was done shuffling he drew a quick hand and started to goldfish*. Hopefully, he figured, he'd be able to work out any kinks now so that he wouldn't have to pay for them later.

(OOC: * "Goldfishing," for those who don't know [since I'm pretty sure it's another slang term used only in Magic] involves shuffling up and playing against either a very weak opponent, or more commonly against no opponent to see how your draws work out. In this case, Jason is playing nobody, just seeing how fast he can drain 8k.)

The night of ups and downs was behind her. As she walked through the paths within the mall inside a dome, the redhead of Ra Yellow wanted to take care of one thing that she had forgotten to, that previous night. A few days ago marked the release of a new card set. Being busy with the thought of Aoi being released from the hospital, and everything following that, Rina Kasakura had forgotten to purchase some boosters. Wanting to grab packs for herself and Aoi, Rina stepped up to the door of the Card Empire hobby shop, having only been here once before.

"Well, here we go...." In a red, Go-designed* sleeveless top and a blue skirt, the Firefly pushed open the glass door, triggering the bell chime. Interestingly enough, the air seemed a little bit more fresh in there. As Rina walked in, she noticed that someone else had decided to come in early as well. As she pushed on towards the card display counter to see if any singles from the new pack were displayed, she watched as the boy to her right seemed to be testing his draws using his duel disk. Right off the bat, she wondered what kind of deck he was using. Out of curiosity, she continued to watch.

Jason thought he'd heard a chime in the back of his mind, but as a hobby store veteran he was used to it. He barely noticed Rina enter; he knew someone did, but didn't feel the need to look. He was too busy working out his draws.

He sighed with this latest one, though. Talk about a hand I'd rather have later in the game, he thought, staring at Release from Stone and Burial from a Different Dimension. He set a monster and two traps, then drew again, looking a bit more satisfied. Putting down a Fossil Tusker was all he did. "Sixty-two..." he muttered to himself. One quick monster set after his next draw had him muttering "fourty-four..." He drew one last time, this time smiling. He put one of his monsters into the grave to bring out a Castle Gate, immediately removing the one he tossed to special summon Gigantes. "Twenty-six, seven hundred, zero. Good-night," he said more definitively.

Still, though, he wasn't sure. In hindsight, he probably would've played it a bit differently. But he wasn't actually playing anyone, so he didn't particularly care at this instant. "And if there were any disruption at all, it'd probably be a different, longer game," he continued, reverting to his quieter voice as if to resume thinking out loud. That said, he couldn't help but show a little satisfaction. "Still, though, a decent recovery from that opening. And it's working a lot better now that I've passed those guys on." He picked up the monster card he'd removed to summon Gigantes: Legendary Jujitsu Master. He nodded and smiled, knowing that if there were any monster disruption, he'd at least still be in a good opening position.

And that chime would sound again, as a rather strange individual with medium-length blonde hair and a small black chain twisting down his left arm, over a bear arm while wearing a black t-****. The chain connected to a necklace that was tucked inside. He wore regular dark-blue jeans with black shoes on top of white soles, his black socks covered. There was no particular reason he came now, since he knew his order would be available any time while the shop was open.

He always enjoyed the deck he ran, but now that he was going to an academy, for the real thing, it was time to update. He hasn't gotten new cards in quite a few sets. While his current deck was fairly decent in its condition, it could be much, MUCH better to compete with some of the other students. Though, given the score he earned on his test, he figured that this little brush up would be all he needed. After all, it was time to put some originality into competition, he hoped to do just that. Everyone ran that one theme that milled a lot. Something to do with lightswords, like that.

He'd seen it enough tournaments, though he hardly plays out in the open. He guesses that his skill just comes naturally, that his knowledge is acquainted through the thorough interpretation he gets from even the quickest studies he receives. However, now was time for the real thing. Well, almost time. He needed to prepare, because he was now truly applying what he knew. Rather than waste time in tournaments were people ran the decks that were known to win with one or two edits, he wanted to bring something completely new; and he had NO idea whether or not he would get stomped on. Time will tell, but for now, he will remain a positive attitude.

Walking briskly into the shop, he brushed passed Rina, skipped by Jason, and walked over to the countered. He cleared his throat slightly, and began to speak. "Morning; I'm to pick up an order. For Xaavfiear? -" He then spelled his name. The clerk nodded, and reached below the counter, sifting through something. After a few seconds of thumbing, the clerk produced a small plastic bag, a stack of about twenty-five or so cards was inside. "It's all paid for. Here's your receipt - have a good day!" the clerk responded. "You too." He responded, stepping to the side.

He carefully on the package, dove his hand inside and fished out the stack of cards. He peeled off the stick note, and began sifting through them. 'Ahh, that new card smell. It's been ages.' He thought to himself. Today was a good day; his decks were going to be up to date for the first time in ages. He continued to sift through them, looking at them thoroughly one by one.

As the person brushed by the redhead, "Oh, sorry...," she tardily jumped (stepped) aside and glanced behind her to see who that was. They had already passed, obviously, but it was a habit to glance back, first, as they did so. Rina then glanced ahead, looking at the back of the person. "---.... .... ...." He wasn't someone she knew well enough, at least from the back. She humbly let it be, returning her focus to the playtester for the time-being. ".... ...."

She was supposed to just grab the packs and leave, hurrying back to Aoi, but ever the curious individual, Rina approached the boy with the dirty-blonde hair (before Xaavfiear gained his cards).

When she got close enough to him for her words not to be misdirected to anyone else, "Hey," she called out with restraint, so as not to disturb the shopkeeper or the other male customer, "...Are you testing your deck out?" It was a question that didn't need to be asked... but that was something people tend to do at times. Regardless, she had no other friendly way to start the conversation... for a person who usually won't start one.

She glanced at the duel disk he was using. Recalling the records from the academy library, it was the same type as the ones used in Battle City. The first mass-produced Kaiba Corp duel disk. It was cool to see them again, despite only being in the academy for 3 months thus far.

Jason began picking up the cards form his latest sample, shuffling them back into his deck one by one. He didn't notice the third individual at all, but his train of thought shifted when the redhead spoke. "Hm?" He turned around.

A look of surprise hit Jason's face, as in his experience girls and game stores typically did not go together. The few that came into the store he used to frequent were typically older than he and more heavy-set. The girl that stood before him now was neither. He regained his composure relatively quickly, though.

When asked about whether he was testing his deck, he responded, "Yeah, kinda." He paused for a brief second. "I wanted to improve my deck a bit so I picked up a few cards. I'm just making sure they're meshing so I can work out any obvious kinks." He felt somewhat stupid giving such an obvious answer, but he didn't know what else to say. He thought she was a duelist as she asked about his deck, but he couldn't be sure. He had no idea that she also attended the Academy he'd just been accepted to.

Jason suddenly felt a bit rude, having not introduced himself. He quickly held out his hand, "I'm Jason, by the way."

While he was finishing looking at his nearly acquired cards, he accidentally overheard the discussion about improving a deck and working out kinks. He grabbed the few cards he wanted from the stack he had, put the rest back in the bag, and produced a thin, stack of cards, possibly a deck missing a few. He shuffled what he picked out to the inside of his deck, and kept it in his hand.

He had previously simulated what he wanted to take out and what he wanted to put on through numerous uses of an online dueling application, and came exactly with his purpose. He hadn't been to a card store in a while, so he planned on staying and checking things out. And of course, he brought his deck. This instance was perfect. Someone else needed to work out kinks, and he needed to put his creation through a real test. An optimal situation for both parties. This is when he formulated his idea.

Though, he didn't want to be rude and interrupt an introduction. To pass a few moments of time, he pocketed the bag of extra cards, and sifted through his entire deck now, one card at a time, taking each one into great detailed looks.

"---?" Noticing the hand, "Ah," the redhead recognized the meaning behind it and accepted it with her own. "I'm Rina," she said, stating her given name.

She had never practiced with her deck in the manner that Jason did. She would just sprawl her cards out on the floor, or any decent surface, and review the combos, worst possible hands, defense probability, and everything else from there. So naturally, she wondered about his method of testing.

"...Does testing the deck like that really work? ...I mean, what about the opponent's cards, like, the ones that totally mess up your moves," she asked, curiously. "Have you tried playing those out? 'Cause it looked like you were going for direct types of damage each time." She was apparently oblivious to what Jason had said after his testing.

Jason was never sure why he goldfished the way he did. He'd just seen people do it before and picked up on it. Therefore, he wasn't entirely sure how to answer Rina's question. "Well," he said, setting his deck on the table while trying to bring his thoughts together, "naturally my opponent is going to do stuff. They're going to be disrupting my cards. But there isn't really anything I can do to test that without being in an actual duel, you know? I don't know what my opponent is playing. This way just tells me what kinds of draws I can get, and from there I can figure out where to go next."

He probably sounded like he was spewing random things. This wasn't far from the truth, as he was thinking on the spot.

((OOC: Might add something later, but this should still be something to respond to. I gotta jet.))

"Oh~," she replied, somewhat understanding what he was saying. "So you were getting a feel for your draws."

"...Hm. Almost like testing draw power," she thought. And on that thought, she recalled looking at her spread-out cards, counting every card that would be thinned from the deck via another card. In her case, Nimble Momonga thinned the deck by two cards, at best, but almost always by at least 1; Sangan would equal 1 as well, making her maximum thinning equal 3.

"In that case, I guess it makes sense," she said, still mildly thinking about it. "But I think you're right:" she took on a 'pondering' pose, "you'd need to duel to really test it out."
