[From: A Late Arrival]

Maybe he shouldn't have brought this with him. After all, darkness had already set in and Keith knew he needed to get back to the hotel before it got too late. But he couldn't help it. As he removed his flute from the case and prepared to begin playing it, a hint of a smile touched his lips. Sure, he had been teased almost mecilessly for having selected flute as his instrument when they were learning in fourth and fifth grade, but he'd told Anna that he wanted something he could easily carry with him. His best friend had chosen clarinet instead and until he'd left for the Academy, they'd played several duets together.

As he practiced scales, he knew he shouldn't have brought this with him. First, D major, then G major and their respective minor scales. Then, moving onto A minor and C major, the latter of the two provoking a grimace as he had to remember to quickly move his pinky finger to the correct key. After warming up with scales and a few of the easier arpeggios, he moved on to practicing some of the music he'd memorised.

Namely, "Moonlight Serenade" from the feature film Pirates of the Carribean. It wasn't the easiest piece for him to play; he preferred the fast and melodic pieces rather than slow and thoughtful, but he decided it was well worth the effort and extra concentration.

But as he looked around the park, he saw no one. He was playing for only himself... or for some figment of his imagination... or so he thought. Little did he know that there was another person hidden (for the moment, at least) behind the shadows created by the trees and bushes. He allowed the light breeze to circle around him, blowing his navy blue scarf off to one side. Yes, he had come here for himself, but he wasn't sure if he wanted it to stay that way. At least, not anymore.

Of course, he was behind a tree from the man's direction when he began playing the flute. Quite well, one might add. He was leaning up against it, his weight mainly supported by it while he balanced on one leg, the other bent with his toe touching the ground. His arms were folded, and his head was down. He was mostly enjoying the quiet night, since the park was hardly ever empty. Though, he didn't mind the addition of the flute.

Absent mindedly, he began nodding his head to the beat of the playing. Whether or not he preferred silence, decent music to accompany it wasn't a bother. In fact, he actually enjoyed it. Eventually, he let out a heavy sigh. His reasons for coming here in the first place were unintentional, and now he was stuck here. A kid with a father like his was certainly to be scolded for being out so late, on his own, too. He wasn't a young kid, not by far, but he had a caring and devoted father. Though, regarding his circumstances, this night, was one he wouldn't be scolded for. That would be another matter.

For now, he enjoyed the music. Feeling incredibly compelled to compliment the musician, he waited, not to interrupt his piece. He would wait until the notes hit a piano frequency, which any musically aware person would know is the soft-sounding quiet-end of the spectrum, opposite of forte. Only now, was he inclined to speak. He didn't consider the consequences of anything when doing this, either.

"You're an excellent player." He said, his voice loud enough to reach from behind the tree he was leaning on to the ears of the concentrated musician. Though, a booming voice coming from seemingly nowhere may startle the musician, but the thought didn't cross his mind. Maybe if the musician was lucky, he would actually see the gent who called out to him.

The sound of an unfamiliar voice echoed through Keith's ears and the youth jumped slightly, stopping in the middle of a stanza and lowering his flute from his mouth. He had been so engrossed in remembering the piece that he didn't notice the stranger approach from behind. And he'd been so close to finishing, too, with only the remainder of that stanza to go.

"Oh." In all truth, Keith was a bit surprised at the fact that his music had been complimented. Sure, he was aware that his playing was at least half-way decent, but Anna's ability on the clarinet was much better than his flute playing any day. "Thanks." There was a short pause as Keith scanned the distance. The man was easily taller than he was, but that wasn't difficult when you stood just a few inches above five feet.

"You're not too familiar with music, are you?" Though his question might come as shock to some people, the teenager was well-aware of the fact that anyone who'd heard good music wouldn't consider him to be an excellent player. Decent, maybe. Excellent, no.

[He's behind a tree, you can't see him unless you went over to look.]

The man simply smirked. He complimented others rarely, but this moment was definitely rare to begin with. He was never on his own, was never alone in the park, and was never one and one with just one person in a public setting. It was all fine, but the remark the individual made certain touched his nerves. He shifted his weight a little against the tree, scuttling his foot up against the trunk from it's leaned position, ready to move.

"I know enough. Can't you just enjoy a compliment?" He said, booming his voice over to him again. He wasn't trying to yell, he just sounded louder on his end than usual, so his voice that was clearly facing the other way from the person, reach backwards from behind the tree. He could tell the individual doubted his own playing through the tone of his voice in response to his compliment.

He was really tempted to come out and meet the other now, but he was too absorbed in the moment of just being there, along with another person, just talking to them. There wasn't music anymore, but now there was a real presence of a person, now that they have acknowledged him. He simply waited in the brisk, night air for the musicians response.

(OOC: Oh, I see what it did thar. Yeah, because Rin moved it to CWA RP for no reason, since this probably takes place during the same general time frame, it has Keith as the last poster when the topic originally was... wherever it was, whereas it had JeY as the last poster, and now Billie as the last poster, in CWA RP. Just ANOTHER strike against CWA RP Rin. Tsk tsk.)

Rina

Not against CWA RP, but against me. Remember how I was deleting the topic links that said "Moved:" In this case, I didn't do that - I didn't get rid of that extra link (this results in what Billie said. It's why you see two links in the portal for the exact same thing).

(Ah but you see, it's just another stake in the heart of CWA RP, in that it proves that members will not take the time to click to various sub boards in order to find where they're supposed to be RP-ing. They will, in fact, just plain stop RPing.)
