Broken Dreams and a Leg

The Racin hidden in the Azure Flames
After hearing his story, Vernon used the chair Kenichi was sitting on to get to a standing position. He then took his free hand and smacked him across the face. Listen! You have shown me in the little time we have that miracles can happen with friendship. What happened with the accident was just that, an accident! You could not help it at all. You can't go through life thinking that it was all your fault and you were not destined to have friends. Truthfully, deep inside me, I believed that one day I would find a friend that could show me what true friendship is. And that has been you. We both have had a rough past but that is what it is, past. I have a feeling how hard it must be to lose the ones you feel close to but just think about how they would feel if they see you being depressed right now. They wouldn't want you to be sad about their deaths. They would want you to act as you did before. Because thats why they were your friends. Because they liked you for you and they wouldn't want you to change that. Vernon then suddenly collapsed back down on the bed as his leg had given out on him.

Kenichi touched his face that had been smacked by Vernon, feeling not pain, but somehow warmth.
"Maybe you're right. I was being a little narrow-minded back then. But still, the feeling of having no friends and losing them is two different thing," he said.

"Is it me, or that leg is making you weak. I hardly felt a thing," Kenichi joked.

"If you insist," Kenichi put out his hand for a shake, "but don't blame me if anything bad befall you," he said, in a lighter tone than before.
"And, can I have that back?" gesturing the newspaper cut.

Vernon handed the clipping back to Kenichi and shook his hand. Before he could say anything, the nurse came in with a set of crutches.

Here you go Vernon. I suggest you keep on these crutches for awhile. I have a PDA so I will send you a message when you can bring them back.

She brought the crutches to him. Vernon took them and slowly rose to his feet. He then thanked the nurse as she left. He then turned to Kenichi, SO, do you know where the dorms are?

No idea. I guess the PDA should have the map,"
He opened his the folder which contain the map again, and take a look at it.
"It seems that the Red Dorm is at, here," he pointed at the PDA. "You think you could make it?"
Kenichi walked to the window, and opened the curtain. There's a slight downpour, probably will get worse.
"Well, we better get going then, if we didn't want to reach there drenched,"
Kenichi helps Vernon to stand.

Vernon looked at the map and studied the distance. It doesn't look too far. And these crutches have a rubber bottom so it should get good grip whether it is raining or not. Although I prefer not to get drenched so we might want to get a move on before it gets harder.

"So, lets get going then," He helped Vernon to stand, before making his way to the door. Kenichi then stopped. He walked to the dustbin, and took out the newspaper clipping.
"I need to stop dwelling in the past, and walk toward the future," he muttered to himself. He tore the clipping to tiny pieces.

"Lets go." Kenichi twisted the knob, and pushed the door.

Vernon smiled as he saw Kenichi tear up the newspaper clipping. Perhaps, he really can make the transition. he quietly thought to himself as he walked out of the office.
