All was quiet in Room 306. It was well into the evening, and the curtains were halfway open to the night sky. Illuminated only by moonlight, the empty room remained largely as its occupants had left it, a day and a half before. There were a few changes here and there from the maid, who had straightened out the beds and hung Aoi's clothes in the closet. Inside the room itself, the bathroom was situated immediately to the right. It was spotlessly clean, and fresh towels and shampoo were provided by the hotel. A small bag containing Aoi's toothbrush and various related items sat on one side of the sink. A small gray case was beside it. Around a corner on the left side of the room was the closet. It was closed shut, but Aoi's clothes from two days before had been hung up. There was an empty hole on the floor where they had been discarded previously. In front of the closet rested three white plastic bags bearing some kind of blue image. A folded piece of paper lay atop one of the bags. The beds were smooth, just as they had been before Rina and Aoi arrived. A stuffed turtle sat on each bed, right in front of the pillows, waiting for their friends to return. The one on the right had a brown shell, with head and limbs covered in a web of green that surrounded many brown spots. It was larger than the other one, who was a contrast of lime green with a forest green shell. The second one's shell raised higher, forming a half-egg shape similar to that of a particular chocolate treat. Its head tilted lazily to one side, and its painted black eyes were scratched away to yellow in the center from many long years of friendship. On a small dresser between the beds rested Rina's "Card Excluder" analog clock that she had brought along for the trip. A large TV was positioned across from the beds. It sat on a large dresser with several drawers. They hadn't particularly used the drawers for anything important yet, since most of their respective card collections remained at the Academy. To the left of the TV was a small refrigerator, which was currently empty. On the other side of it was a small table. Aoi had pointed out that it would be a perfect place to set up her Obelisk laptop, but the first night she stayed, she had not done so. The window, and passage to the balcony, was at the far end of the room. From that point extended a beautiful view of the city. From the third floor, the edge of Highway 17 could just barely be seen - though it was unlikely many guests would be interested. Rather, the more important structures, such as the Transit Towers, drew the eyes. Silence hung in the room, broken only by one occupant's return. Edited by Aoi Sanders, Aug 1 2009, 04:26 AM.

Similar to the sudden jolt from the prick of a small needle, the sound of a key and the click of the lock cut through the silence. Rina Kasakura, one half of the occapants, entered the room and locked the door quietly behind her. Basked in the silence and light of the moon, she observed the room from the narrow entryway. It had been over a day since she had last stepped foot in this place. Thanks in part to the moonlight, Rina could see that her bed was made. Se was sure that she, herself, didn't tidy her bed, yesterday morning. ...A maid? ...Possibly. ...More like 'highly likely.' The redhead looked around. "...I never noticed before..." she began, softly, "...how big the room really is.... .... ...." There was distance in her voice. The darkness overshadowed what the moon's light could not disperse. Rina was used to spending time alone, even before her academy days. ...But in situations where other people were supposed to be around, it was only natural for Rina to feel lonely when they weren't. Lowering her eyes as they lazed in sadness, Rina's focus soon caught hold of three bags by the closet as she glanced to that side. She stared at them, knowing they were not hers. But soon after, she noticed something off about those bags. She approached them. And with better vision she could see something atop one of the bags shrouded in darkness. "...?" She touched it... and picked it up. Holding it within reach of the outside light. "Paper.... ...?" But why folded, and left around like that? Rina's curiosity was piqued, by only this thin piece of paper.... She unfolded it.... |

Only now could she see the image of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon across the front of each of the bags. The faint lighting from the moon and the curved, reflective surfaces of the plastic had made the design difficult to distinguish, except from up close. The bags looked new - limited wrinkles on the surface and no signs of blood - they had been likely replaced by Miss Kim. The tip of a Dark Magician Girl hat poked out of the center bag. The edge of a framed souvenir picture could barely be seen behind it. It was obvious that this bag was Aoi's. It was a reasonable assumption that every last one of Rina's purchases were in the other two, gathered meticulously by the third floor chaperone. |

"...! That's our--! .... ...~." Emotion washed in as she got a better look at the bags and their contents. Thinking about the things that happened today, Rina got choked up, staring at Aoi's Dark Magician Girl hat. An imaginary thought of the hat flying, in a lone shot, as Aoi was struck by the vehicle - it looped in her mind several times. Her grip on the paper had strengthen, somewhat. Her eyes closed and her teeth clenched, she faced the ground in defeat, knowing that all of this was her own fault - the redhead's fault - and it was something that she still could not live down. Because of her, Aoi was in the hospital for serious injury, barely escaping death; she had lost her recent memories, as well, and if that wasn't enough, Rina had to be careful not to help Aoi remember anything from before the academy - a difficult task since Rina wouldn't know what would trigger it, as she was never friends with Aoi at the time, much less, enrolled in the academy. .... .... ...It was a good, solid minute or two before Rina could compose herself, again, fully. Rina was so full of thought at that point that she was possibly stressing herself out. But it wasn't for too long. Once she realized this, she sighed. She had to get it together, for both of their sake's. ".... .... ...." The Firefly looked around the dark room once more. ...She then closed her eyes, as if deciding something. ".... I'm going to take bath...," she uttered to herself, turning around and proceeding towards it, bringing more light into the room for a limited time before closing the bathroom door out of habit. The sting of the light was mild, as it wasn't long that Rina had done without it. ----------Later----------- With light now in the main room, Rina, seated on the right side of her bed, decided to send a message to Miss Kim, thanking her for what she has done, while also informing her of the situation, thus far.
Then... ".... ...! Oh, right. Didn't I get a message back at the hospital?" Cycling through her PDA inbox, Rina easily found the message that Douken had sent her. She had forgotten to reply to it those hours ago. She was about due to send one.
Following that, the redhead closed up her PDA. ".... ...." She glanced to the side, guilt returning, then up, indirectly, at the overhead light just before closing her eyes as she flopped back onto the bed.".... .... The room really is big.... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... ...." Rina eventually found the strength to place the PDA on the night table by rolling over the bed to reach it. Following that, she stretched, across the bed, and laid there for quite some time, thinking about things, some more. Edited by Rina Kasakura, Aug 2 2009, 08:39 AM.

Aoi had placed her personal things on the left side of the sink. She kept her toothbrush, toothpaste, and the like in a small black travel bag, to keep it somewhat organized. Often, her organizational habits left something to be desired, which made the bag highly unusual. Beside the bag was an oval shaped gray case that contained her glasses. Occasionally, on some nights when they would spend time together, Aoi would wear them. Curiously, she never wore them outside of Obelisk Dorm, except for two visits to Rina's dorm room. These encounters with Aoi would be difficult for her to push out of her mind as she bathed. A pair of black marble eyes looked across the bed to Rina, stretched out on the bed. The brown turtle that Rina had woken with was laying on the adjacent pillow. A smile was always on the turtle's face, even with Aoi in the hospital. Its happy expression seemed out of place. But, there was nothing that could deter it from trying to raise Rina's spirits. |

"...." Rina stared at the turtle on her bed, in front of her pillow. "...." Curiously, she eyed the other bed. Sure enough, the other turtle plushie was there, as well. "...." Rina's eyes returned to the first one. The smallest of smiles posible for her had appeared on her face. ".... ...I wonder how long ago Aoi got them.... ...." Rina took gentle hold of the green-webheaded doll, examining it before staring into its eyes. "Do you think she'll remember you guys when she gets back...?" She played around with the smaller plushie for a short while, getting a feel for its texture in the process. Then it just sat there in her hands. ...its ever-present smile began to lose its effect on Rina. The redhead stared at the brown-spotted turtle, unable to find any answers from within.... |

The turtle continued to smile, unphased by Rina's actions. It apparently didn't provide any of Rina's answers either. She set it down again, and rolled over. She was now looking across to the TV side of the room. But before she could think about watching any to take her mind off of Aoi's condition, her eyes settled on the small black refrigerator next to it. It was only a little taller than the large dresser, and separated into two sections: a refrigerator and a freezer. Rina knew that it was still empty, but Aoi had suggested that they make some purchases in the city later. But, they never had a chance for that. With Aoi still in the hospital for the next few days, Rina would be the only one with a chance to stock their supplies. Doing so could very well bring a smile to Aoi's face when she returned - a smile akin to her turtles'. Edited by Aoi Sanders, Aug 2 2009, 07:41 AM.

The thought gave Rina an objective for the next day. She could only hope that it would rain tomorrow, as well.... The Ra teen sat up on her bed, ready to turn off the lights for the night. .... A thought then came to mind, overlapping the other. It was a question, one that she didn't have answered, today. Moving towards the light a little slower, now, she wondered.... .... "...Is it permanent...?" [End (?) Day 10] |
