Walking between the bookcases, her ears picked up a faint un-important buzz. However, once the words "Kouji Yagami" reached her ear drum, she paid attention.

Quote:

"Kouji Yagami, one of our beloved students, has committed suicide. I ask that you all stay strong, and keep going on with your lives and the tornament as that is what Kouji would have wanted. I also ask that the entire Academy be there for Kouji's funeral which will take place on the outer grounds. Further details will be revealed in time."

Beloved, she laughed quietly to herself. The boy was far from beloved. To his... her... their knowledge, he was a loner, living in some bizarre secret base.

The phrase "comitted suicide" made her a little proud of her job in disposing the body. The duel spirit shrugged off the idea of visiting his funeral. The box continued buzzing.

"In addition, there is a individual point system in which it keeps track of the wins of duelists by themselves. Why is this important? Not just because it shows your streak, your wins, losses and adverage dueling percentage of victory, but because the one with the most wins recieves a dorm promotion or, in the case of an Obelisk Blue winning, a contract with Crimson Wind Academy to become their representitve at the pro leagues. So, in this case, good luck my students and lets continue for Kouji."

A chance at Obelisk!? Awesome! Wait... what? No! That's not right... The tournament, the pro leagues, the rankings, and this whole Academy was nothing compared to what Van'Dalgyon had in mind for his future. Ugh, how badly had Billie contaminated Van'Dalgyon's subconcious? This was no time to be caught up in silly little girl things that it's host cared for. The girl had an unusual resolve for resisting darkness, and Van'Dalgyon was never too much for persuading people to succomb to dark forces. To be purged of the girl and completely take her over was one major hurdle to overcome. How he envied Darkness Dragon right now.

Wandering the tight corriders between the bookcases, it decided to focus only on the future. However, time was a fickle misstress, and the future could not be predicted. If Van'Dalgyon could have forseen what stood at the turn of the next corner, it probably would have ran in the opposite direction, as what stood just beyond the bend would shake the girl to her very core.

Her laptop before her, Danielle continued to type away her essay. The streaming rhythm in the background prompted the next words to appear from her subconscious. Sentences came, woven together carefully; any imperfections were dealt with moments after they appeared, rearranging to find the perfect order. As she finished wrapping up her conclusion, a noise overrode her soft melody. She stopped the music that ran through her mind and listened.

She sighed. She did not wish for anyone to do that-- it was a tragic thing. When someone lost all hope in themselves, that is what broke her heart the most. When someone decided that they were of no use to anyone, and decided to rid the world of themselves, or rid themselves of the world rather-- that kind of a person truly made her cry. Even though she hadn't known this Kouji Yagami very well, she still felt sad to hear about what had happened. The announcement continued, half-heard by the blonde-haired girl.

Dani took a deep breath and focused. She picked a song to lift her spirits and began humming it inaudibly. As she looked up, she saw Billie Hatcher emerge from the recesses of the library stacks. Dani jumped to her feet. She held up her left hand in greeting.

"Bi!--" her shout turned to a whisper. "Billie! How are you? It's been so long, it seems like."

Dani smiled, unaware of the lurking darkness that now dwelt inside her friend.

Ms. Billie May Hatcher was startled by the sight of the blonde haired girl. Her red eyes flashed a brilliance of blue. A thousand different thoughts and questions ran through her mind, a million questions shouting out in her mind. Van'Dalgyon knew he had to crush all of them.

She abandoned you when you need her most, after your biggest loss! a voice echoed in her head. Remember who gave you the power you wanted. The one who came to your side when you needed it. You know what you have to do.

Eyes turning back to a single crimson hue again. Van'Dalgyon had regained control.

She smiled, taking a seat across from the tall blonde girl. She had a sinsiter smirk spread across her face. "Ms. Billie Hatcher can not hear you from where she is right now."

Dani stared into Billie's... red? eyes. That... wasn't right-- not how they were before. She said nothing about the color change. It was probably... just her imagination. Or something. She sat down.

"Um... Billie? I'm... not quite sure what you're talking about. Are you... okay? You look a like maybe... you might not be feeling quite... um okay."

Dani stared intently into her friend's eyes, hoping for some sort of answer. She could feel her heart begin to beat faster.

Her chin came to a rest on her hands. Her elbows found a place on the table. The girl did not look like anything special. Blonde hair, blue-green eyes, rather tall frame. What was it about her that had caused such a rush of emotions to the girl?

She's my friend, a silenced voiced emerged from the shared conciousness of Van'Dalgyon and Billie. The dragon ignored it.

"You are Danielle, correct?" the girl in the purple shirt stood up, staring at the Ra Yellow girl. "My host is filled with great emotions upon seeing you, as well as thinking of you, and we can't have that now can we?" The crowded library was nowhere to flaunt it's power, she raised her duel disk, smiling.

Danielle stared at Billie in surprise. Her friend stood, Danielle's own image reflected in the glassy crimson. Dani felt her pulse rush even faster. Something was wrong. These words did not speak of the hope that Billie had before. They were veiled in the polite, gentle voice of her dear friend, but the words themselves were laced with the most potent poison. Dani continued to gaze into her friend's eyes, forcing a swallow before speaking again.

"What... what's going on here.... Billie."

Her focus closed in around the two. She ignored the others moving in the library, looking for books, studying, talking. Even as she stared into the unwelcoming blood-colored shine of Billie's eyes she could hear a pounding in her ears.

Her red eyes stared back at the blue-green irises of her roommate.

"You seem to have a piece of my host's heart, and I will not stand for such a thing." she crossed her hands across her chest. "I must be in control of all of her thoughts and emotions at all moments in time. It's simple really. Either you go, or I do, and trust me, I'm quite comfortable here, and I won't give your friend back without a fight."

She pulled off the top card in her deck. "I am Van'Dalgyon, the Dark Dragon Lord." she turned the card to face Danielle, the same fierce red eyes shown in her eyes, and the cards. It glowed with a sinister aura. She placed it back into the middle of her deck.

"Meet me at the dueling arena in exactly one hour. Come alone."

She left the library, the issues with the host girl would soon be sorted out.

Danielle watched as this version of Billie proudly--arrogantly-- and yet gracefully departed. There was some... Billie-like quality to her, despite the words. She took a deep breath, staring after the spot where Billie had disappeared. She began to pry her heart free of the stalking terror that gripped it with an icy touch. Her breaths slowed to a normal speed.

"Van'...Dalgyon."

She had seen the card before. Perhaps had a glimpse of it... when she and Billie had first met. It was when she had asked... if the Duel Monster cards were... alive. The word rang through her head as if Billie had said it just then. She felt something in her heart surge forward, only to be shrouded with doubt. This... thing that had taken her body.... It couldn't be that-- she held her breath-- Billie had been right? But... the thought didn't make sense, even though her own experience....

She reached into her jacket for her deck. A pair of rather playful red eyes winked at her. Red. Eyes. In one pair, a darkness took roost. In another, hope dwelt. She pulled the card away from the others and stared at its image intently.
Perhaps a good friend was the medication Billie needed-- and meeting that ominous duel head-on would be the best way to prove that to her. She looked at the remainder of her deck, a pair of jade eyes questioning her own. Both pairs of eyes had a hint of uncertainty to them. Dani blinked and looked from one card to the other.

"I will save you from this, Billie. Whatever it is that has taken you from me, I will fight without looking back."

Danielle grabbed her things and rushed outside, greeted by the familiar scent of violets borne on the winds of hope.
