Danielle Chirel
The Divine Light
Danielle sat in the hotel lobby, her sketchbook resting on the table in front of her. She tapped her lavender mechanical pencil restlessly on the blank page. She waited patiently for inspiration to strike.

She had decided to wait down in the lobby, so that she could watch some of the people as the went in and out of the hotel. She could hear bits of their conversations, and imagined the details. These two were a couple, spending the weekend away from work and their kids. That person had a good job and made piles of money, but he was single and lonely. That family was visiting Silvershine as part of a yearly family vacation tradition. Thinking of these things usually helped her connect with her art, and discover the finished drawing in her mind's eye, which she planned to record on the paper.

By this point, she had idly made out a few lines on the page. She stared at the white sheet for a moment, then reached for her eraser. She erased the stray marks so that the page was perfectly white again. She continued to stare at it, searching for a way to beautify perfect whiteness. That thought stuck in her mind for a second-- and she smiled. Danielle picked up her pencil with her right hand and set it to the paper.

From outside the lobby, the roar of an engine could be heard, as well as the peel of tires. However, the roar from this was distinct, and different from that of a car, or a truck. This was obviously the roar of the engine of a motorcycle. That the monstrous noises were so distinguishable meant that someone was obviously in the parking lot, driving quite a bit faster than the allowed limit.

Shortly after, the engine died, and it became apparent that the person who had been messing around outside had finished. Stepping through the revolving glass door of the hotel was Rounin, a thick leather jacket on his shoulders. His hair was in a complete disarray, as if he had been moving rapidly through windy streets. His baby blues were not to be exposed right now, as he wore a pair of sunglasses to cover them. What was to be seen was the smile that adorned his face, the smile of someone thrilled with a new acquisition.

As he stepped into the lobby of the hotel, he glanced around, curious as to who was around. He noticed a fat shirtless man walking in the direction of the pool. He winced a bit, quickly averting his eyes to avoid scarring himself from overexposure to such a horrific sight. He glanced instead toward the weight room, where he figured he should probably go soon. It seemed to be empty, or at least, as far as he could see.

He wondered where Kai was, as they had separated a bit earlier in the day, after acquiring their new means of transportation. He didn't see him in the weight room, nor at the pool, nor in the lobby, but he was certain that he wouldn't have gone up to their room yet. Surely he'd have waited on Rou, if only to make sure that he got here okay, what with this being his first time riding a motorcycle.

Rou shrugged, and decided that he must not have arrived yet. With a sigh, he glanced around the lobby, taking in more fully the people who were present. His eyes fell on one woman, the only one who really mattered in the room anymore. With a grin, he walked over, his new leather boots echoing off the linoleum floor as he walked over to the table she was sitting at.

"Heya there, Dani," he said with a grin. He took a seat in a chair on the side of the table, The soft leather sank in as he sat down. He glanced down at her piece of white paper, and then up at her blankly. "What 'cha doin'?

Danielle looked up quickly as soon as she sensed Rounin sit down at the table. Instinct kicked in, and she pulled the sketchbook to the edge of the table and covered the mostly blank sheet she had been working on with her arms. She looked away from him, but still spoke energetically.

"I'm drawing something!"

She recognized his voice. He was someone she had met a few times before. She'd had to remember his name every time... but for some reason, it still hadn't stuck in her mind. Maybe it was because she hadn't ever thought about him except when he showed up unexpectedly like this. He was in her class at Crimson Wind, though... she knew that much at least. As she frantically tried to remember his name, she nervously tapped her foot soundlessly against the floor. Once, she accidentally hit the tail of the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon plushie she had stuffed halfway under the table to keep the walkway clear. She glanced up at him for a fleeting moment, then returned to staring at some point on the wooden table's surface.

He raised a brow at her obvious signs of nervousness, and worry. He was curious; what was it that had put her so on edge? Had she been drawing something that she didn't want him to see? Perhaps that was it, but he couldn't be certain. Rather than brooding over it, he smiled reassuringly at her. He then leaned forward in his chair, resting his elbows on his thighs, while allowing his forearms to dangle in the open air between his legs.

"What're you drawing?" he asked softly, a smile spreading across his face. He allowed some excitement to creep into his voice, and he was truly interested in learning what it was that she was drawing. However, he didn't lower his eyes to the canvas; instead he kept his eyes high, and on her face.

He knew that if she didn't want him to see whatever it was she was drawing, then it would be extremely rude to try and look at it anyway. If she told him it was okay, then he would look. If not, he would lean back, and just enjoy her company. However, the curiosity inside of him was beginning to well, and he hoped she would allow him to see.

He then glanced down at the ground, and noticed something. It looked like the tail of something, but he couldn't be certain at first glance. He looked at it for a moment longer, before he realized that it was a plushie of some sort. He glanced back up at Dani, and smiled, showing off his rows of pearly whites.

"What's that, Dani?" he asked nodding his head toward the ground beneath the couch.

Danielle looked at him as he moved, and pulled her sketchbook closer to her body. She scooped it up and pressed the page to her chest, completely blocking her unfinished drawing from sight. He leaned forward, and she leaned back against the stiff wooden backboards of her chair. She continued to clutch her sketchbook defensively. He smiled and her, and asked with interest,

"What're you drawing?"

Danielle stared back into his eyes, irked by their focus on her. Anyone who was actually interested in her drawing wouldn't be looking at her like that while they asked about it. She adjusted her arms to obscure more of the backside of her sketchbook, and gave a simple reply.

"A picture."

She looked down at the table. Slowly, she set her sketchbook down, taking care to cover up the markings she had made on the page with her arms. She glanced at him briefly to ensure he wasn't looking at her drawing before reaching for her mechanical pencil. Uncertainly, she exposed a small bit of the picture and set to work. She had time enough to scratch out a few marks before he interrupted her work again.

"What's that, Dani?"

A jolt of fear shot through her body. Instantly, the sketchbook was in her arms again. Her dropped pencil clicked on the table a few times before coming to a rest. A faint blush was on her cheeks, but she managed to look at him directly with fleeting intensity.

"It's a picture!"

Just like that, it was over. Once again, she averted her eyes and remained silent. She did not resume her work on the picture.

OOC: You sure make Rou sound like a creep with the way you're having Dani act. ; ;

Rou jerked back at the abrupt yanking of the sketchbook. It had been so abrupt, and so unexpected, that he hadn't even begun to suspect that she had been about to do it. She then exclaimed to him, once again, that it was a picture! Rou's eyes filled with confusion as he looked at her, clutching the sketch pad for dear life.

He held up a hand slowly, and an apologetic grin crossed his face. He decided that she must have thought he was trying to steal a look at the picture, when he had been looking at the thing at her feet, and had reacted accordingly. He lowered his hand to signal that it was okay, and to calm down.

"Don't worry, Dani. You don't want me to see what you're drawing, and that's okay. If you don't want me to look at it, then I understand, and I'll keep my eyes off your drawing until you want to show me," he said taking a deep breath. His heart was beating at an incredible rate from the sheer shock of her sudden movement, as well as the borderline yelling.

He averted his eyes from her face, not wanting to feel as if he was staring, despite only trying to maintain eye contact to let her know he was listening when she spoke. Instead, he glanced down at the bottom of the chair she was sitting in, and noticed the little thing once again. He was tempted to lean down, but chose against doing so in case it was her's.

"I was asking you what that was," he said pointing to the thing at her feet with a quick wave of his hand toward the base of her chair.

Danielle sighed, and relaxed slightly. She closed her sketchbook, burning the next strokes of her drawing into her mind. She would finish it later when she could work on it undisturbed. She could never work on something when someone esle was nearby, whether or not they were looking. Right now, she would not have the chance to finish her drawing. But she could adapt. It was always her way. At present, she would answer the nameless boy's question. She glanced at the dragon at her feet.

"Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon."

She picked up the dragon plushie and held it in front of her. She moved the heads around playfully, and smiled. She glanced at her companion briefly.

"See?"

Rou's eyes flicked to her hands, which were closing the sketchbook she had been drawing in. He winced slightly, feeling a pang of sympathy for her. He hadn't meant to distract her, after all; hell, he hadn't really meant to do anything other than provide her with a bit of company. However, he watched also as she pulled the dragon plushie from under the couch, and toyed with it.

He couldn't help but smile as he watched her play around with the heads, and move around the parts, and couldn't help but grin a bit wider as she started smiling. He saw her glance over to him, but wasn't sure why she had. It seemed she turned her attention back to the dragon before too long though.

"Cute little toy you have there," he said flashing her a big smile. His sapphire blues continued to observe her, playing with the little toy. Despite being a game he would have played when he was younger, he couldn't help but think that it still looked like fun. Maybe it was just the inner child in him welling up; it seemed pretty likely that it was.

He ran his long fingers through is thick, soft brown hair. Perhaps he did it sheerly out of habit at this point, or maybe his hair was just so unkempt that he had to do it almost constantly. Whatever the reason, his sapphire blues tracked away from Dani and then onto her sketchbook, and he felt some semblance of guilt once again.

"Hey, sorry I distracted you from your drawing, Dani... If you want, I can let you get back to that," he said politely, beginning to stand, though not quite doing so. He would wait for her response before he stood, or did much of anything further, since it was her call.

Danielle lowered her eyes to the sketchbook on the tabletop. She stared at it for a moment, then looked up again. She looked at Rounin and smiled faintly. Her hands continued to idly play with the dragon plushie.

"No, that's fine. With all the people passing by here, I wouldn't be able to get that much work done anyway. If there's other people around, I find it difficult to relax enough to be especially creative. They don't even have to be looking at me or anything, either. It just makes things difficult. But it's okay; I'll just work on it later tonight or something in my room."

Danielle smiled, and offered the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon to Rounin.

Rou nodded thoughtfully as she explained about how she couldn't focus while other people were around. He suspected partial fabrication, as she had chosen to sit here; perhaps she just didn't want to appear rude. Either way, he hadn't seen much of her, and was glad for the opportunity to sit and converse with her.

He removed his hands from the edges of the chair he was sitting in, and allowed himself to fall back into the comfortable, lush, leather chair. He looked over to Dani, who was offering the Dragon Plushie to him. Rou grinned, and extended his hand outward, curling his fingers around the soft little plushie, and taking it from her grasp.

He pulled his arm back, bringing with it the miniature dragon plushie. He smiled, and he toyed with it, giving it light squeezes to feel the softness of the plush, and having the heads dance around gently. He kept his playing light, to avoid hurting Danielle's toy; after all, how would he feel if she hurt his penguin?

That was when he was reminded of another friend that he had. She had slid into his jacket when they had entered the lobby to avoid getting him in trouble, but he imagined that now, it'd be okay if he let her out to play. Perhaps, so long as she didn't chirp, everything would be alright, and she wouldn't even be noticed.

He pulled his jacket open, and smiled down at the adorable little bird. She climbed out with a certain adorable dignity that only she could pull off, stepping out of his jacket, and onto his leg. She glanced over at Dani, and tilted her head slightly to the side, as if inquiring as to who she was.

"Dani, this is my friend, Ms. Penguin. I met her around the time of that swimsuit contest thing, and she and I have been all but inseparable since. Ms. Penguin, this is Dani," he said leaning down, keeping Dani's plushie away from her beak, on the off chance she decided to peck at it. He cooed it into her ear, and she tilted her head again.

With a grin, Rou watched as she hopped off of his knee, and over to Dani's leg, walking carefully along it before looking up at her, her head tilted slightly to the side. She didn't chirp, because she was a damn smart penguin, and she innately knew that giving off noises of life in this particular place was a bad idea.

"I think she likes you," he said with a small grin.
