Night had fallen on the Kaiba Land park. Many of the academy's students had returned to the hotel hours before, or had left to wander the city. The curfew imposed by the academy's teachers would be in effect in an hour, so Aoi led Rina back to the main entrance. Over the course of the day, she had accumulated a large plastic bag full of miscellaneous items and a Dark Magician Girl hat that currently rested on her head. She stopped at the main gate, taking one last look at the fountain - the stone statue and pouring water ever more beautiful under the black sky and lamplight.

"Wave goodbye to Kaiba Land, Rina. Do you want to come back tomorrow? There are still a bunch of rides we've missed..."

The redhead of Ra took a deep breath. Her fill of the night air always seemed to have some sort of drowsiness effect on her. Accompanying a wide-mouthed yawn, Rina uttered "Sure-sure" as she stretched, lifting two bags of goodies over her head. "I haven't decided where else in Silvershine to check out, yet, so another theme park outing's~ a-okay with me," she finished, stretching her feet.

"Waaagh~...." Stretching complete. "Well, I had fun. And I guess the people of the city'll be happy to have one of these so close by."

The bus had ceased its route, so Aoi headed to the intersection and pressed the button to cross. "I had fun, too, Rina," she answered. "Though... I wish I could have done something for you today." It had been something she had forgotten about - her desire to make that challenge. The excitement of the rides had distracted her from her original goal. She hadn't even seen him that whole day. Perhaps he had been one of those who avoided the crowds of the park and took to the rest of the city? As she reflected on it, she realized she hadn't even seen him yet on the trip...

The lights changed, allowing them to cross.

"Hm?" Rina blinked as she and Aoi crossed together, "Something for me...?" She wasn't sure where this was coming from, but that was only because she, herself, had forgotten about Aoi's objective, as well.

She yawned once more.

"You don't have to do stuff for me, Aoi; I'm fine." Wiping a yawn-induced tear from her eye, she continued. "As long as we stay friends..., that's all that really matters, right?"

Rina gazed at all of the cars that drove towards the traffic lights, stopping behind one car after another as they walked across the road. It had been a long, long time since she had seen a single car - academy island life does that to people. Another yawn sprouted as they neared the concrete walkway; a plane flew by, noted by its red flashing light.

"But..." Aoi looked to the pavement. A few moments of silence passed as they made it to the next intersection. She looked up again as she pressed the next button. "I just really want to do something for you. I mean..." The lights changed again. The two started to cross. "I mean... you've done so much for me..."

".... ...Don't get me wrong...:" The redheaded duelist stood up once more. An array of polished silver sinks was spread out behind her. "As your friend, I'll accept any level-headed decision that you make. .... .... .... .... ...On that note... as your friend..., I don't want you to do anything you'll regret...." Aoi remained seated on the tile floor, looking away from the Firefly. Rina held the Obelisk's deck firmly in her hand. "I'm keeping this deck for now... In exchange... I'll let you borrow my good luck charm."

"... I want to help you, like you helped me." The two continued walking in the direction of the hotel. Only a few more streets stood between them and their destination.

She turned to Aoi as she verbally reminded the redhead of that time a few months back.
"So that's what she meant...."

"Aoi.... ...---...!"

"Sanctuary Cheloniidae" (memory)

Turning to face Rina, Aoi crossed her arms and nodded. "And then you can go congratulate him on his win. Trust me, it's foolproof."

"Does it have anything to do with that time? .... .... ...I still don't understand what she's going for..., but...."

".... .... Alright." She faced the sidewalk which they were approaching. "I don't entirely get it, myself, but I'll leave it to you." Rina smiled at the blue-haired teen whose strands added an elegant glow off of the light to her profile.

"Thank you, Rina." Aoi pressed another crosswalk button to cross to the other side of the street. The light changed almost immediately. "We're crossing again," she said for the benefit of her sleepy friend. She took a few steps into the intersection before continuing. "I'd do anything for you, Rina. I just wanted you to know that." A smile appeared on her face as she looked down. One second passed as she gathered the energy to speak again. "You know, Rina, I really feel like..." her voice trailed off as her head snapped to the side, toward the center of the intersection.

The light at the other end of the crosswalk continued to flash in silence.

"...! Huh...?" Mildly startled by Aoi calling out her name, Rina blinked until she noticed light consuming her from one side. An instant realization came to mind, but Rina was not in the correct state to respond accordingly. Just as she had turned her head to see, or not see, the approaching vehicle, she suddenly felt enormous pressure forcing her back towards the traffic light post. Unstable, she fell back, snapping to alertness in an instant as the sounds of human-vehicle collision echoed through her ears.

Her eyes shifted quickly from the vehicle in question to Aoi's lifeless body. Those blue eyes dilated considerably in shock. "Aoi...." She stared at the distant body, gradually approaching it as the driver realized what happened. "Aoi...? ...Aoi...!" As she drew closer, the shocks strengthened in intensity, triggering a long-forgotten memory.

Rina's Profile (lazy-copy-paste version)

The sight of blood also causes her stress, but for a different reason. During a duel on a public sidewalk, under a year ago (now over a year ago), using the version 2 (or "classic") duel disk, Rina was knocked back by an attacking "Blowback Dragon," after its effect was used to destroy her last sheep token. It was, unfortunately, at the same time that a truck was driving by. She narrowly avoided the vehicle, but with her arms up, one hit the side mirror, causing her to spin uncontrollably into a major light pole, brushing it violently, head first. Her upper half landed back onto the sidewalk, enabling her to see her own blood on the concrete, semi-consciously, before passing out. Her duel disk began to short out as it, too, had struck the light pole, severly cracking the active device in a number of places. Whether Rina received any shocks from it was unknown to the duelist who helped get her to the hospital.

A few days later, with a little assistance (transfusion and stuff) from others, Rina managed to recover from the near-death situation, not to mention her dislocated wrist. However, according to the doctor that helped to treat her, while she may be fine, physically, now, there were occasionally strange readings in her brainwave patterns. Fortunately, they had no major bearing on her normal thought processes, or her life, in general. She could live her life normally, in other words. While that was true, the issue of the rare abnormality was a concern worth pondering. But no matter what tests were taken, the problem could not be deciphered.

It was, eventually, decided that since the abnormality was non-life-threatening, Rina could return home with her family.

Aoi took much more than a hit to the wrist and a lesser collision to the face, more than Rina by far, and even Rina barely got through it.

The redhead shut her eyes tightly as she kneeled before her friend and savior, letting out a shrilled scream.

"AOI~~!"

(([/lame post] but you get the idea))

Rina's scream did not prompt a response from the blue-haired girl. Aoi continued to stare blankly to her side as the red fluid continued to leak out onto the asphalt. A few panicked shouts came from the passengers of the dark-colored sedan before it accelerated down the street. The redhead had been in shock - focusing only on the injured girl and not on identifying the driver or memorizing the license plate of the vehicle. She would not have the chance now, as the car zipped around the corner in an attempt to escape the scene. That one moment had passed, and it was up to her now to make the most of what time she had left - if she had a hope to save her friend's life.

Rina watched as the car drove away, surprised. "...No way...." She looked down at her friend's body, somewat frantically; restlessly. At that moment, she was unsure of what to do. Taking only a moment to try to calm herself, majorily failing, she realized something important. Noticing the people around the area, she called out to them. "!! I need an ambulance! An ambulance! Please! Someone, hurry!!" It was extremely unfortunate that the academy PDAs couldn't make those kinds of calls, but there was nothing that Rina could do about that. What she needed to do was focus on the task at hand.

She thought of trying to revive Aoi on her own. The ambulance would be a while, and relying solely on them to save Aoi was, in some ways, like a pipe dream. She needed to take action until they arrived, but the sight of Aoi's blood left her trembling. It caused her to flinch. It took a moment longer for Rina to gather the courage to perform CPR on Aoi, despite the orange-haired girl's continued shaking. But before she would begin, she needed to do something about Aoi's blood loss. In the end, Rina took off her hooded vest in an attempt to wrap and apply pressure to the back of her friend's head. It was crude, but it would have to do. Blood loss was most severe, there, but Aoi was also releasing blood along her arms. It took a moment, but the redhead tore off the hem of her navel-high white sleeveless tee, then proceeded to tear that in half, each per arm.

Applying CPR, Rina counted, pumped, and attempted to breathe as much life into Aoi as she possibly could. Whether she was doing everything right was unknown to the girl who didn't have the time to think things through.

"Aoi, don't die on me...! Please don't die...! Aoi...!!"
