(OOC: I'm terrible with titles.)

---

A few blocks away and the school teacher and the... Plague Rat... had arrived at their destination.

"This is the library." she declared, a bit of smugness, almost as if Seican would be unable to tell whether or not this was, indeed, the library.

"As a former public school professor, before you can be reformed, you must present what you know." She pointed for him to take a seat in front of a table.

"I know what a library is," he muttered lowly... not fully because he was annoyed, but also it was a library which was a place to keep tone down. He sometimes did business here so he had leaned to be quiet.

He took to the seat and slouched inside. "So then, what must I present?"

She smacked him lightly on the back. "No slouching!" perhaps a little too loud for a library as a slurry of "shhh"-es reminded her where she was.

Rolling her eyes dismissively, she turned her attention back at the boy, speaking more silently.

"A true student must present a general will and overall desire to learn. You can't teach someone unwilling to learn anymore then you can feed an animal unwilling to eat. You must prove that you actually do want to learn, before being an acceptable pupil."

She took a seat now, across from him. "I know what you're thinking. 'But Doctor Charlotte Swebb, how do I, a juvenille detention punk, profess my desire to become your pupil?' That, dear Seican, is for you to figure out on your own."

After being smacked, he sat upright in his chair, muttering, "Once a teacher, always a teacher." He then listened on to her small rant and poor imitation of me before saying, "People learns things everyday. It may be useful, it may be not. It may be good, and it may be bad. Either way, we learn to survive. This is how I was able to survive here. I learned the ways to survive. The question is what can you teach me that will help me survive more?" He always saw one of his members as a psychologist since he always spoke crazy things that make you think hard. This was just one of the lessons he spewed at a newer member not that long ago.

She rested her hand across her chest, a pensive look in her eyes.

"Typical student attitude." she spoke, her British accent highlighting every word she said.

"Oh, bur Professor Swebb," an imitation of any random one of her students. "Why do I have to learn English? I'm never going to move to England!" She rolled her eyes dismissively, turning her attention back to Seican.

"Your education helps out in the long run, not just in the short term. You MUST build a foundation for success, for your future life, and your education is that foundation."

She pushed her chair back. "Stay put. I'm going to find you some books."

He rolled his eyes when she pulled her typical mockery. When she headed off to start looking, he said, "All they tell you to do in English is read a bunch of boring books. Like that would help you on the streets." If there was one thing he did know, it was the difference between book smarts and streets smarts since he lived off of the later. "Still, that crazy woman still hasn't changed a bit. She has no idea how to loosen up."

Returning from the shelves, she brought an armful of books, just quick enough to hear his last two sentiments.

She slammed the books down rather loudly, before being shushed by some random.

"I happen to know a little about the streets myself." She decided not to give him enough time to challenge her declaration as she continued. "And living in such a way is far from enjoyable. The probability of dying increases, as well as a generally low standard of living. All in all, it's an unethical way of life."

She nodded, agreeing to herself as she slid him a book entitled: "The Human Mind: Cause and Effect" by Yusuken T. Zaramato. "Begin reading. You will be tested on the first chapter in one half hour."

"Then if you know, then you know learning to survive that way would do a lot better than book smarts. You have to admit there are times where books smarts will never help you and only street smarts will prevail..." he stated, taking the book. A few sentences in, he already had an annoyed face. "What is all this mumbo-jumbo? This book has so many big words, you would have a better understanding a dictionary! Is this what you really give your students who have never seen a college classroom, or even a college book?"

((fyi, books are underlined, not quotation marks))

"of course street smarts are important, however they're not everything."

She smiled at his last sentence, as though his anguish was pleasurable to her. She looked down at her watch. "You have twenty minutes."

"You telling me I have to read and understand this gibberish in twenty minutes, take a test on it, and try and pass to satisfy you?" He closed the book right in front of her face. "Last I checked, you were a middle school teacher, not a college professor. I doubt you teach your students this material. If I am supposed to be your student, then you need to teach me what you teach them, not a bunch of psychological gibberish..." He glared into her eyes with no fear. "If you are a teacher, then you must teach your students everything fairly and evenly, not lighten loads on ones you light and place more the ones where you don't."
